Thanks for the description very informative. What I found when doing this was that the parts had become magnetised making assembly difficult with the spring being magnetised it was jumping out of position .I eventually assembled and fount the rotor sticking/jerking and not returning to position. i left this overnight intending to de-magnetise the next day. came back the next day without doing anything the rotor was turning freely as it should. What happened overnight ... I don't know?

Hi MM, have you considered blanking the egr valve on this engine ? I did this to my C-max, 2005, 2.0L TDI and produced a big improvement in mpg and performance. I'd like to do it to my 2017, 1.5L HDI blue in my Peugeot 2008. Also at what mileage would you expect the egr to give problems ? Your opinion would be much valued, thanks.
@moremolecules Жыл бұрын
@@nigelmitchell351 Good question nigel. I have considered it, but unlikely I will do it. Several reasons for that. Diesels get vilified a lot and blanking these does not help us using our diesels. There will be quite a bit more pollution once the EGR is blanked, mainly Nox. So, it will be polluting more. Separate from that is the operating temperature of the engine, the EGR reduces that, so a blanked EGR will increase a bit your cylinder temperature. There are multitude of positives to using the EGR, from pumping losses to making the cylinders/volume smaller when not needed, e.g. driving on a motorway, so that all in all reduces consumption. Good video that describes all of these is here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKPTqn-shdSXocU

Thanks for a very useful video. A removed and cleaned the EGR on a C4 picasso where the acessibility is very poor. Three hands would be needed for re-assembly and there is space for one and a half ... My problem was to avoid dropping the thin plate between engine and the EGR. My ultimate solution was two small drops of super glue close to the bolts loosely fixing the plate to the EGR. When the glue had dried it was easy to connect the EGR to the intercooler and then attaching bolts. No risk of dropping the plate! I guess that the small amount of glue won't interfere with the intended fit. Seems to work!

Just finished cleaning the same egr and it also wasn't that bad but also was getting stuck towards the end of the run much like your's. What i did was knocking out the fork by hammering it gently and opened it completely. I then turned it upside down and knocked it on a piece of wood and a lot of carbon came out. Even after this it still felt like it was hard to turn and it turned out to be the bearing on the inside. I cleaned this with carburetor cleaner and greased it. Job done. Since I am planning to block it with an Knox plate, it doesn't matter brand new or used. I just want a working one since the MOT in France check for default codes via OBD and can refuse a car if some defaults are present (even if the engine light is off !) I also saw 2 types of EGR valve but as I remember it not on the 1.6 HDi The 1.4 HDi as a different one and the 2.0L HDi also an other one

@@vlone59 Do you mean the upper spring thing does not move freely back or the actual valve inside the bottom part? If is the upper, the spring is not positioned correctly. If it is the bottom, yes soak it in something, also wash it with washing up liquid, etc. If the upper moves alright and the bottom moves alright, but when you put them back together you get the errors, it is the way you put them back together. The bottom you only need to check if the pin can move along nicely in the channel.

@@oooyugi You can use anything. I would just get a blanking plate from a coke can or a beer can. It does not need to be stainless steel. It is a good question about the hole. @@moremolecules Hi. Also. Does the EGR Valve still have to work, even with a Blanking Plate fitted. Otherwise the van will remain on Limp Mode ? As EGR isn’t being used no more so I will be basically buying a new EGR just to continue a correct electrical circuit. I hope I’m making sense.
@moremolecules2 жыл бұрын
@@oooyugi As far as I know, it will not work if you just unplug it. The computer knows that it is unplugged and will give you EML. The trick is to have it plugged, but blocked. If the EGR is faulty, the computer might still recognise this and give you EML.

What a cracking video. Although i don't have a 1.6 but a 2015 Euro 5 Expert 2.0 hdi 130bhp with the same symptoms. The boost is there especially in 1st gear but quickly disappears. It takes around 20+ seconds to get to 60mph. It's had a brand new turbo and EGR fitter in the last 10k miles. Also throttle body and inlet manifold removed and cleaned. No fault codes on mine. Full service too. New MAF and MAP. Trouble is it's so tight in my engine bay. I can't access the solenoids at the back of the engine. Because the turbo works intermittently i don't think it's a pipe off but i could be losing boost The EGR seems to operate on startup too, so it's all got me a bit stumped. Thanks for the vid.

I completely sympathise with the amount of space. I would certainly look into the turbo solenoid. It could well be a bit stuck, so little boost provided. There was a video somewhere of cleaning it, but difficult to get to and the price of a new one is really cheap. Not too certain about the 2.0HDi and it is a newer model than mine, but there must be a relief valve somewhere between the injectors. That should be free of gunk.

This video was a genuine lifesaver after the motor on the valve seized open causing it to go lean and cut out on the motorway. I do have one note however, if you're doing this job on a small car like a 207, it is required that you remove the diesel filter from the bracket and the bracket itself otherwise you literally cannot reach in with your hands to grab anything. You don't have to remove the filter but it would probably make it easier but I'm lazy. Also, the lower EGR bolt is an absolute pain to get to on the 207 as it is buried under wiring, fuel lines and a coolant line so make sure you have a decent extension and a extendable magnet on hand for when you inevitably drop something into the abyss

Nice job! I have a peugeot 207 1.6 hdi (2008) and 334.000 kms. For about 60.000 kms ago I took apart the EGR for cleaning and changed just the electrical part (from a citroen C2 1.4 hdi) because mine seemed to be stuck. I did not use at that time the lexia tool to make the matching of the EGR electrical part and despide of it worked fine and still works fine and the car runs good but last week I use the lexia to check if there were any trouble code and I saw two codes P1461 and P1462 both intermitent regarding to the EGR. I did the calculator test with the lexia and both electrical and mecanic valves did the noise as it should be. Then I deleted the fault codes and used the car over 400 kms. Today I checked with lexia again and there is just one code to read P1461 intermitent regarding to the electrical part of the EGR. Well, this time I decided to use the lexia to make it match (learning) to the EGR and I will drive the car again over 400 kms and them check again with lexia. What makes me confuse is that no engine light is on in the dash and the car runs smooth and fine. Do you thing it might be time to replace the full EGR because lexia is already , let's say, traying to advice me before the light goes on in the dash? Thanks mate!
@moremolecules3 жыл бұрын
Hi Marcos, than you for the comment with really detailed info and story. Maybe I should have pointed in the video that the recalibration is needed with a new EGR, but it does not mean that without a recalibration the EGR will not work. It will work, but might not be efficient or operating correctly, e.g. the ECU does not know the minimum and maximum of the current/new EGR, but only the positions of the old configuration. Let's say the old EGR had 0.5mm more movement in one direction as compared to the new one. The new one will not move that far and say there will be a gap. So, the ECU thinks that is has closed the EGR, but it is not due to the machining of the new EGR, it happens, they are not perfect copies of each other. So, from time to time there will be an error logged and it will be intermittent, in other words sometimes it does not work. This is just a thought example, it might not be this. Sometimes, EGR valves get stuck on the closed position (best case) and there will be no warning on the dash, just an error logged in the ECU. Most of the times there will not be a warning on the dash, depends on the model of HDi. I think I once did blocking of the EGR and eventually there was a depollution fault. If I were you I would wait a few more km and see if the error comes up again. If it does not, then the recalibration as worked. If it comes, I would replace it altogether.

So I saved having to worry about bubbles in my system/priming it with the pump. - you didn't cover cleaning the EGR tube that goes from the EGR valve to the intake. That tube was a massive pita to get out since I had ECU wiring in the way and didn't figure out how to unplug it. The thing is that apart from the EGR pipe, one also probably needs to clean the air intake for the cylinders, as these will be also covered with soot. Because it is quite a bit of work removing all the wiring and injector pipes, I am waiting to get a second car and then do all the work. I do not think it matters if you give it a blast now and then, it will generate the soot anyway. The main problem is the oil that goes from the crankcase/turbo and creates a bit of hard mixture with the soot. Maybe the 1.4hdi is a bit better in that respect, but I doubt it.

Thank you very much! According to your review , I removed the EGR valve and performed a service, share. The EGR BU is not very dirty, but one bolt that Dill EGR to the engine block was released. After the service, the error disappeared, the car started to go very fast. But unfortunately not for long. After a week, the same problem appears. TELL ME WHAT ELSE YOU NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO IN THIS PROBLEM
@moremolecules6 ай бұрын
What was the error? Also, I did not understand the bit where you say something about one of the EGR bolts. You could always try to do the re-learning of the EGR valve: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZqSWaqecntmiqdE Also, test the operation of the EGR valve if you have diagbox/pp2000/lexia

Thanks for the video! What are your opinion on cheap EGR valve (Ridex, Stark etc.) ? I thought I would take the electronic part from the original egr valve and put it on the cheap valve to save money
@moremolecules9 ай бұрын
Yeah, not too sure about cheap EGR valves. It is a hit and miss. I bought a Haas one and it was not machined properly and gave errors straight away, no matter how many times I tried to polish the surfaces. Then I bought a Hella one and that has worked without a problem for the past 5-6 years. I know they are expensive, but sometimes it is more expensive to buy the cheaper ones. It could be that it would work, maybe I had a bad luck. I would not mix and match then like you suggest. They are likely to have been calibrated a bit and mixing and matching not not wrok too wel..
@maxk72589 ай бұрын
@@moremolecules Thanks for your answer! Well, then I'll go for the HELLA one but the price haha is like 200 euros here in Germany
@moremolecules9 ай бұрын
@@maxk7258 Yeah, I know. That was my experience, I am not saying that you can buy a cheap one (no swapping of parts) and it will not work. It might work pretty well. 200E is quite a bit. It is up to you, it could work you never know, it all depends on how long you intend to keep the car of course.

Thanks Marka885, much appreciated. As compared to other 1.6HDis, I do indeed have lots of space in my car to work on. The thing is though that you can see it on my car and potentially work in a more restricted space knowing how to do it. I really hope it helps a bit. All the best.

@@moremolecules yes very helpful and I have subscribed. Theres no way I'd be able to get the air filter out whole as you did. I'd be concerned that I'd remove something and not be able to get it back on haha. Having said that I will have to tackle the "anti pollution faulty" as I'd imagine that will fail mot.
@moremolecules5 жыл бұрын
@@marka885 It should be fairly simple to put something back together if you take it out. Take a lot of pictures. Yes, the anti pollution fault is an MOT failure. I bet is the DPF. Get it on the motorway for a good steady run and it may be forced to regenerate. Good luck

I'm just cleaning one at the moment, but I'm not going to try and dismantle the electronic actuator part. However, for the actual valve I'm dumped the whole thing in my ultrasonic cleaner, which seems to be doing the job quite well. Just rinse and dry then, maybe with a bit of dry lube, but then I doubt that will last long. The frustrating thing is not being able to test it to see if it works properly. Interestingly, it's got carbon in it. No oily mess which I see on some other EGRs. I guess that's a good thing. Mine is from a Ford 1.6 TDCI diesel.

Yeah, that is probably the best method to clean it. Unfortunately, I do not have an ultrasonic cleaner, maybe I should get one.

@clintbalzan89263 жыл бұрын
Very great and excellent explained video. Just one question. Do you need to program the EGR after installing when re connecting the battery?
@moremolecules3 жыл бұрын
Hi Clinet, many thanks for the good words. If the EGR is cleaned only there is no need to re-program or recalibrate. If there is a new EGR then it needs re-calibration with Diagbox or PP2000 for Peugeot or Lexia for Citroen. It will be different programs/software for Ford, etc. PP2000/Lexia are part of diagbox. I might do a video how to recalibrate the EGR valve in a couple of weeks.

HI. I have the same engine, mounted on a 2007 Suzuki SX4. A question: after this intervention, the engine starts normally and therefore the EGR valve is recognized by the control unit software? Or do we need to do a reset?
@moremolecules Жыл бұрын
Yes, I believe it is the same engine. If you have only cleaned it there is no need for any software reset. It would not hurt if you do it, but not entirely needed. It is recognised as it is the same one.
@oscar_studio34 Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for the immediate response. So, if I haven't misunderstood, if I reassemble the same EGR valve that I only cleaned, the engine starts again without any intervention on the electronic control unit.
@moremolecules Жыл бұрын
@@oscar_studio34 Correct, if only cleaned, it is plug'n'play, no need for any software adjustments or calibrations. If you have the software then it would not hurt to do it, but it will fine as it is.

Perfect. One last question about gaskets. Do you recommend replacing the gasket (the diamond-shaped one) located between the egr body and the engine? If you have sockets or extensions that are not tight, use a little paper towel or some thin plastic to prevent it from slipping and falling (at the 22 min in the vid)
