The reason for why Johto suddenly had 3 seasons instead of the 1 previously is that because of the fact that Kanto was only 1 season there was no game to make season 2 out of so they made up the Orange Islands for Ash to travel through while Gold and Silver were being made, so when the finally could make the gen 2 anime they decided to stretch it out for 3 seasons so that Ruby and Sapphire could be made before the Johto anime ended.

Actually many factors made the OG Whitney fight hard. whilst Machop was a good option, in the first generation of games karate chop was a normal type move and low kick was got at level 20, so you would think you need to grind Machop 4 to 7 levels to learn a fighting type move, so most people wouldn't have thought of using it, even though it did have a few fighting type moves in gen 2, however it was still likely to be out sped and stomped out.

Something that has been a side question for me. Why doesn't pikachu have a nickname? Seriously, this is a thing in the game, since forever. But when I say pikachu, you think ash's pikachu. There is only one way for Snivy to have Leaf Tornado - by being level 16. I want the calculations run for a level 16 Snivy to see how that goes, because a level 5 Snivy simply doesn't have Leaf Tornado.

The only way Pikachu should have lost that fight was if there was an active ATK stat modifier that lowered his ATK by at least 80%, and his HP would have to have been less than 32 at the time. That's the only way I can see Pikachu losing to a level 5 Snivy.

Snivy definitely wasn’t level 5, she had a previous owner that snivy abandoned cause she deemed them unworthy of training her, which makes me believe that maybe snivy was traded at high level to a new trainer (which in games makes the Pokémon ignore you hence why it makes sense she would just leave that trainer in the anime) It easily could put snivy at level 30+ for me And I’m unsure of the last move Ash has taught pikachu, but I feel at basically level 60 pikachu should have better moves than thunderbolt and iron tail, so it makes sense to me that pikachu could lose to a level 30 snivy

The major problem with matpat's theory in the episode where we meet A.J it was suggested it was suggested that Ash had a 10 streak showing that Ash has battles off screen so it's entirely possible Pikachu is actually stronger than what Matt Pat gives him credit for simply because of this fact that Ash battles more than what we've seen in the anime. There's also the cases of montages where multiple battles happened back-to-back. How many Pokemon has Pikachu defeated or had participate in defeating that wasn't shown

I commented on that video with the math about what level Snivy would have to be. I still have it on hand. Also, I don't remember if I took critical hits into consideration. Here is the comment: In the middle of writing this, I realized we still don't know what Pikachu's EVs would be, which should be calculable from the battles we see, but that's a problem for another day So what level would Snivy have to be in order to survive/knock out Pikachu? Notes: Max [stat] refers to 31 IVs and 252 EVs in a stat, and 0 [stat] refers to 0 IVs and 0 EVs in a stat (for those who don't know, IVs = random number between 0-31 assigned when a Pokemon is generated, EVs are gained through battle and max out at 252 per stat, 508 overall) Using the Pokemon Showdown damage calculator, Snivy would have to be at minimum level 11. It would also need a Defense-boosting nature, Max Defense and HP, and even then there would be a 43.8% chance to OHKO from a minus Attack nature, 0 Attack Pikachu at level 59. Out of curiousity, I decided to see what level would survive if Snivy had 0 Defense and HP with a Defense-lowering nature vs Pikachu with Max Attack and an Attack-boosting nature at level 61. The answer there is level 33, where it has a 12.5% chance to not get OHKO'ed. For knocking out Pikachu, I had to calculate the damage range of 2 moves, so I spent an hour re-learning Excel (or, in this case Google Sheets) to calculate. The minimum level for Snivy to KO Pikachu is 43 if Pikachu is level 59, 0 HP, Defense, and Sp. Defense with a Defense-lowering nature and Snivy has Max Attack and Sp. Attack and an Attack-boosting nature. Under these circumstances, there is approximately a 2.0% chance of Snivy getting the KO. However, these odds can be greatly improved at the same level if we switch the natures so Snivy has a Sp. Attack- boosting nature while Pikachu has a Sp. Defense-lowering nature, boosting the odds of knocking out Pikachu go up to 28.5%

I still think his theory on his level in Kanto is wrong. Simply because if you pay attention to atfer he fights Brock one of the moves he learns is thurderbolt which is learned at level 26 by Pikachu but as he says atfer that he doesn't fight many battles where he knocks out another trainers Pokemon. But if you also pay attention to when he is about to face Lt Surge for the second time in the anime Brock remarks that Lt says that he evolved his Raichu as soon as he got it good so it didn't learn moves like agility which we know Pikachu learns at level 33 we see in the second battle an through out that battle not only did Pikachu learn agility making him over level 33 he beats Raichu an uses the move over an over again through Kanto. So him being level 30 at the end of Kanto is kinda b.s to start with so his math is still gonna be off track going forward
