I'm kinda surprised Spyro Enter the -Disaster- Dragonfly wasn't on the list. The first three games were revolutionary. Insomniac really hit it big with Spyro. Then they wanted to make other popular IPs, like Ratchet & Clank. But *somehow* this conversation happened at Activision: "Hey, so we have this revolutionary, ground-breaking platformer. Who can we trust to make a follow-up?" "Oh I know! There's this developer called Check Six, who has zero prior experience developing games! They'd be a perfect fit!" "That's a great idea, but two heads are better than one, so let's hire Equinox, who's ALSO never made a game before. They seem trustworthy!" "Oh my god, that's be SO COOL!" "We are SUCH geniuses!" The game was a buggy mess, the developers couldn't cooperate with each other, they couldn't agree with Activision, the composer Stewart Copeland couldn't even figure out what the game was about, the writing was practically nonexistent, AND it was rushed to meet the holiday deadline. Activision tried to bring Spyro back with A Hero's Tail, which *was* better, but it was already too late for most Spyro fans. The game was one big massive middle finger to the purple boi, and it's the main reason the franchise died, at least until its revival with Reignited.

Well I personally feel like Skylanders was the nail in the coffin for Spyro as the series started off trying to revive his IP before pushing him to the back.

Legend of Spyro had its fans. I'm not too fond of the fact it wanted to be Lord of the Rings, but it has inspired some of the indie game ideas I have on my agenda.

22:24 I once heard somebody make the argument that the only genre that can almost NEVER survive being bad at its genre is Comedy. If a Horror movie is bad at horror, you can still find humor in how hokey it is (Troll 2, anyone?). If a Drama movie is bad at drama, then you can find enjoyment from seeing how stitled the acting is, or how overly-serious it takes itself (The Room is a great example of this). But if a comedy is bad at comedy? That means you don't find it funny, even ironically (because ironic humor is still a type of humor). And if you don't find it fun, then what are you left with? Nothing.

MoH:Warfighter was doing things the industry sees as standard at the time and nowadays, the only real problem that sank the series into near oblivion was the fact they hired real military personnel for fact checking; their movements, the guns, the sounds, the realistic aspects. it got so bad the Pentagon nearly sued the studio "Danger Close" and the publisher "EA" for their portrayal of the US military.

Multiplayer horror games are hard to make scary due to friends being able to make jokes with you and lighten the fear, hence why Phasmophobia is a pretty good horror game due to how terrifying it can be and how when the ghost actually starts hunting you all go quiet as to not get killed, preventing jokes from reducing the horror.

Driver San Francisco is one of the best games that ever released with a Ubisoft logo, and it's a damn shame you can barely find it anymore. one of the most innovative games in the racing genre, and I mean that sincerely, not as the marketing tripe that company execs spew at gaming expos.

Getting rid of co-op in dead rising 4 killed the series for at least my cousins/friends and I. They did have a co-op but it was not involved with the main game, it was just little mini games. Also removing of psychos seemed like a goofy, along with a couple others. I’ll always miss playing Dead rising 2 with my cousins after school on the Xbox 360.

Dead Rising 3 didnt kill the franchise. It was such a fun addition to the series. The story and gameplay were just fine, tgere just wasnt more taht needed to be added to the game at that point.

Roller Coaster Tycoon also deserves a mention, but I guess it's not really *one* game that killed the franchise. Just a slow, trickling death being reduced to nothing more than terrible mobile and handheld games and a half-assed mobile port for the PC version of RCT World. Basically the moment Chris Sawyer left the franchise in the 00s, after RCT2, was when it died.

The problem is the technology just isnt there yet. Most people probably don't have a room the can dedicate to being their VR room where they can set up there stuff and stumble around with a helmet on. VR atm is still just a novelty, but I only think we are a few iterations away from it being a solid media platform.

I liked that sim city myself but I guess i got to it later when they fixed it so you didn't need to be online after claiming they couldn't make it offline for a long time but yeah I like the idea of smaller cities that need to focus on doing just one or two small things well you get other things from other cities like I played with a friend who didn't do trash pickup in his city cause I did it in mine and I just sent trucks to his and got money for it well he was doing a more factory mining city like me and my friend enjoyed it sure it was a downgrade from other SimCity games with the smaller scale

Honestly just like playing in vr from time to time if I feel like moving around instead of being glued to my desk. I would also somewhat use it for exercise as some games can be pretty heavy on the movement. Also yeah motion sickness affects me too so I typically play games where you only have to stand in one place and don’t use the joystick

Star Fox Command. Story wise, it literally has the series “canonic endings” (yes multiple endings), and wasn’t even a good game. After that what did we get? Star Fox Zero, a “reboot” of the series that didn’t make much noise for the fans, and Starlink as a side story.

I'm still upset at the treatment of Dead Rising. I love the series. The seocnd is in my top 5 games. And the third's good. But I have no intention of finishing the fourth. Bad Company and Bad Company 2 remain my favorites of the Battlefield series. The characters were more light-hearted at times and it was a nice change from all the super serious FPS games. Same for the first Army of Two game imo.

Saint's Row IV's biggest problem to me was the fact that driving felt like a chore once you unlocked your movement options, and it's not exactly good if your Driving game is annoying to drive in...

Driver didn't die with Driv3r. It died with Driver San Fransisco. Also, Spyro and Crash are pretty dead too. Crash 4 killed the fanbase. And we haven't gotten any Spyro since Reignited.

Castlevania Lords of Shadow was a legit fun, good game, even it felt like a God of War clone, the story and fun gameplay at least kept you interested. Then Lords of shadow 2 came out... I barely played that game, it was so bad and not fun, they either removed or changed anything that made the first game fun lol

I think it's one thing to make a dramatic shift in gameplay, I feel it's another to make jokes about the collectathon gameplay being dated and not what people are interested in. Like I get Rare's motto is to make really raunchy and touchy jokes but I feel like there it's a bad place and bad time to do so. :p Freaking Perfect Dark and Battletoads got comeback games in recent years. I guess Banjo gets to be in Smash tho? I will say that I personally think Nuts and Bolts was fine enough. Probably cause I'm not a big fan of Banjo Kazooie and didn't have 9 years of anticipation built up inside of me.

IDK about y'all, but I liked Resident Evil 6. It was my first Resident Evil game so thats probably why (my next resident evil game was 5 which in my opinion, feels like 6). I honestly like it better than other resident evil games I played (which was 5 and 7, but I sucked at 7 so I never liked it because of that).

As someone who absolutely adores the Saints Row franchise, I still haven't bothered with the new game. Each game has its strengths and weaknesses, but the new one just looked not good. SR1 is definitely the weakest of the original quadrilogy, but still had its charm. SR2 has the best story of the series and while it still had goofy elements it was still fairly grounded in reality. SR3 probably has the most polished gameplay. The controls and driving were clean and while it started to get a bit more outlandish, it was really fun. SR4 was fun in a "Ok, just blow shit up" kind of way. The story was pretty weak and definitely hit "jump the shark" levels. They kind of wrote themselves into a corner with it though.

Lords of Shadow 2 was not received as well from what I’ve seen due to it being a subpar stealth game set in modern day. While we have had games set in the future before they never left the gothic castle so it didn’t matter much and we never had stealth segments. Also why did they call it 2? Mirror of Fate was the second Lords of Shadow game, this is the third one!

I don't know which Saints Row game is worse when I try to compare Agents Of Mayhem abd the reboot. Also I am one of those fans of Marvel VS Capcom that was very disappointed in the game. (I never bought it just played a demo and it was trash). I knew Marvel VS Capcom had fell off when I went to a Game Stop a month after it came our and saw that the price had went down from $59.99 to $29.99 with new label put on it.
