I hated Giamatti's character. You're locked in a room with a tiger. Why would you piss it off? I just don't see them being in a room with no barrier knowing what's going on. At the end I felt like everyone got what was coming to them. It was mad science gone wrong.

I really enjoyed Morgan! It has a great twist ending that I didn't see coming. Definitely worth watching. I'm puzzled by all the negative reviews.

Not to brag, but I saw it right when they mentioned the artificial nature of Morgan. Consider this question. What do you send to kill a monster? Another monster. I don't think it took away from the story. I would have been happy either way.

The reverse for me. The first ⅔ of the movie was slow but drew me in so I didn't mind. The last third went full _Hollywood_ and lost me. oh, and the _kung fu out of nowhere_ 😒

My wife and I saw it. I figured out the ending pretty quickly. . .Spoilers . . . . . At the beginning when she meets Morgan, they have her face reflected in the glass. and Morgan steps up into frame perfectly in line with her face.

Yes! These were the clever shots in the film and whilst I didn't pick up on the actual meaning til the reveal, could definitely detect the foreshadowing at the time. I actually disagree with Cecil slightly because I found the actual cinematography to be pretty good and enjoyed the juxtaposition between the lab and the outside world, but it was definitely the shots like you mention here that brought me on board with that.

Yeah, Michelle Yeoh and Jennifer Jason Leigh are in this movie, but they don't get to do anything. Jennifer Jason Leigh in particular is given the most thankless character and I can only imagine she was only available to shoot for just a day.

I had fun watching this movie, and I didn't mind the gray colors. It reminded me of my youth, behind the iron curtain. We had colors, but they were dull, just like in this movie. It was more like a feeling, a feeling of being trapped in the place that sucks. Maybe it's the reason why I don't dislike this movie? It wasn't great, but it wasn't "Moon fall" either. A little bit above the middle ground.

It's weird after all this time I see 'Elfen Lied' influences in recent film and TV. I got some of those vibes from this film, just like 'Stranger Things' which also came out this year.
@lazy_kalm
@lazy_kalm 8 жыл бұрын
I think, as an anime fan, you're overstating the influence of EL here. If anything, both works were heavily influenced by literary classics such as Frankenstein insofar as man creates monster, monster turns on man, whether or not creation is really to blame or can be labelled 'monster' is debatable. This sort of scenario existed waaaaay before Lucy started popping heads ;)
@MillywiggZ
@MillywiggZ 8 жыл бұрын
Ha! Oh God don't lump me in with fans of Elfen Lied, I thought that anime was a joke haha. It's one of the more recent shows that directors today would probably have seen growing up, like Akira and Ghost in the Shell. Ultimately nothing is original but it's the author's witness account of their influences is what makes something new. The Duffer Brothers did mention EL as one of their influences for 'Stranger Things' and the beats from the trailer of 'Morgan' even had people drawing a comparison to EL also. I get where you're coming from, but that's why I drew that comparison. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
@lazy_kalm
@lazy_kalm 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's definitely a generation of directors who may have been influenced by anime whilst growing up, Aronofsky apparently bought the rights to Perfect Blue so he could use the bathtub scene in Requiem for a Dream and, well, then he made Black Swan which had very obvious similarities. Had no idea about the Duffer Brothers citing anime as an influence, that's pretty cool.

Is there some indefensible myth about Kate Mara as a great actress just because she's not a generic beauty queen celebrity. She's cute but in a mysterious, artsy way. You won't see her in a Michael bay movie but does that automatically make her good? This review said she played the icy, uncaring business woman very well but I feel like she plays that in every role and it may be due to a lack of personality than some Stanislavsky method of harnessing her inner "stoic, emotionless" Kristin Stewart with a brain? This is just a question with a bias I have based on her work in transcendence, house of cards, shooter and that famtastic four debacle. I have not seen Morgan

I though this was a huge pile of dung, besides the plot that had been done numerous times before this movie brought nothing new or interesting, it was as generic as possible, the plot twist visible a mile away. What did piss me of was the trailer made Morgan seem to be some kind of witch or supernatural being, it gave some F.E.A.R vibes and that got me excited only to see the creepy music scene from the trailer was just some edited borefest...

you are good at analyzing movies, and informing the audience about what goes into the different films you cover, but i have to say, you are not a good critic. you give too many bland or bad movies praise.
@GoodBadFlicks
@GoodBadFlicks 8 жыл бұрын
Praise? I said it had a slow 2/3 but a good 3rd act. It wasn't great but would make for a good rental. That's not really praise. Not everything has to be screaming about how much something sucks. Its fine if you don't like my reviews, there are plenty of people who do. Besides, you've already said this numerous times in the Suicide Squad comments.

GoodBadFlicks in not nessessarily talking about this film, i havnt seen it yet, but i have seen quite a few of the other films you have given positive reviews for. my comment applies in general. just my opinion, as a film buff and movie critic myself. and yea, suicide squad was bad. by the way, saying something is a good rental, is praise, you are telling people that they should go and spend their money to watch it.

I understand where you're coming from. I personally view GoodbadFlicks content as more insight/analysis based than review. I also feel Cecil is lenient with a lot of films, but that doesn't make him a bad critic by any means. It simply makes him more forgiving. The rules of film critiquing are not set in stone. I've seen enough shit reviews from so-called professionals like IGN & co. to know this isn't bad by a long shot. The negatives were clearly pointed out, and I personally will wait to see this on TV or something. This looks like a worse version of Splice... And I didn't think Splice was outstanding by any means. He hardly praised the film. He simply said it grew on him, and that doesn't mean he gave it a pass. Keep up the good work GoodBadFlicks.
