This song and It's Over are two of the greatest heartbreak songs I have ever heard. Mark, Phil and Wally all must have live this when they wrote it.

I met Level 42 at a Beatles exhibition back in 1987 when they were opening for Tina Turner. They were such great guys. I still have their autographs. One of those rare moments in life.

My God, this song is good for your ears. One of the most soulful ballads of the eighties.❤

I can only say, the song was way before it's time. But then again, toxic relationships have always been there. I have known for it for quite some time, but started to really pay attention to it a few years ago. The music is great, but the storytelling laid bare in the songwriting for me is what just works for this song. A man trapped in a toxic relationship, surrounded by doubts not even sure if love is enough anymore. Com'on Man, this is an absolute GEM🤩🤩😍. Love it!!! 07/03/2023

Lyric It seems true love is so rare Seems all I've known is deceit Your laughter fills the air Once more I'm sensing defeat And I suppose you're leaving me now I was so sure, now I'm so full of doubt And I suppose you'll be leaving this place Just like the smile you wiped from my face, this time I always gave my best Your memory serves you so badly Some people kill for less Yet I'd still die for you gladly (so gladly) But I suppose it's my turn now To play a scene that's familiar somehow I turn the page and you walk away Not even love could bring you to stay, this time Walk away so easy Once more I'm learning In the depths of my despair Your lies confirming true love is so rare And I suppose it's my turn now There's no more love, only feelings of doubt Gone with the hope your words have erased Gone with the smile you wiped from my face Love is a ship we all hope to steer (yeah yeah yeah yeah) Through troubled times, cross an ocean of tears A midnight sea that swells in your eyes Takes just one look to know I'm still mesmerized But I suppose you're leaving me now (yeah yeah yeah yeah) I was so sure now I'm so full of doubt I turn the page and you walk away Not even love could bring you to stay, this time Leaving me now Leaving this place

Too true! Everything is so over produced and clinical now, just to make money...no soul to it though!
@mariobrea21869 ай бұрын
@silfideguerrera2788 ай бұрын
Porque los artistas de antes eran completos, las letras de las canciones tenían contenido y profundidad. Se cantaba y tocaba música desde el corazón.

The musical press in the '70s and '80s were pretty elitist - particularly if your face didn't fit and image was deemed too slick, lagging off Phil Collins, Dire Straits et al, as they merrily went on their pre-woke way. Same with Level 42. I'd forgotten what a bunch of really sorted musicians and arrangers these guys were. This is one of...if not... their best. I'm listening to their back catalogue all over again.
