This is a very significant visit to Hawaii, especially considering that the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor just 20 years prior. Just goes to show you the senselessness of war. Japan lost the war, suffered horrific casualties, inflicted horrific casualties, but the country is doing well today. They could have done just as well without having to wage war. Today, Japan is a great friend and ally to the United States, and Japanese tourists love coming to Hawaii for vacations, and they especially love and respect Native Hawaiian culture. Hawaiian music and Hula are extremely popular in Japan. Even after waging war, Japan and the United States are great friends today. I'm certain they could have become just as good friends without the war.
