Perfectly stated, Camden! She's my favorite vocalist in the world. You mention the brightness, but it's not just the brightness, but a blend of brightness and darkness. Bel Canto calls it "chiaroscuro". Having rich harmonics - with bright overtones, but also dark undertones present in her fundamental tone. I think her tone stands above all the big voice singers in her generation (Gen Z) and also in the current generation. Mori may not be a Bel Canto opera singer, but she somehow stumbled upon a hybrid technique of having a Bel Canto "open throat" technique, but adapted into a modern, contemporary style. Somehow, she found a great balance. She can maintain this "chiaroscuro" quality all the way up to her upper belts. What I love about her technique is that she's not reliant on twang (which cuts out the dark undertones of the voice). She's also not heavy on using mask resonance (which also cuts out the dark undertones of the voice). She knows how to use enough mask resonance, without losing the richness of her voice. She is heavier on the pharyngeal (back) resonance.

@@JoeyAndamo"Not reliant on twang" meanwhile without twang sopranos would die above D5/Eb5 because that's the end of pure chest function 7:28 very pinched/overly bright and narrowed Eb5+C#5 tho. (And continue to use those nonsensical terms like "mask resonance" "pharyngeal resonance" from This is opera Archive channel while 99% of stuff they say has zero correlation to basic in vocal pedagogy)

@@pigeonsandplanes5805 "Not reliant on twang" means not overly heavy on the use of twang. OF COURSE Morissette uses twang, BUT the point is, she doesn't overuse or rely on it. You failed again in your attempt to find a mistake in my statements. Also, you probably have never sung in a "big, fully-engaged" style before. "FULLY ENGAGED" = a lot of TA muscle engagement = a lot of "core". Thus, you have very little knowledge about the EFFORT AND NATURAL TENSION it takes to sing in this style. Thus, when you hear Mori singing with EFFORT (because she's using a lot of TA muscle engagement in her belts, duh!), you often MISDIAGNOSE it as "pinched". That's why I told you about my background as a hobby singer before. I actually sing and perform the concepts I speak of.

@@pigeonsandplanes5805 Regarding the "Opera KZbin channel", I only present that channel as a great source of THE FOUNDATIONS of singing (i.e. traditional Bel Canto "open throat" technique, appoggio or diaphragmatic support, and proper chest voice development). Once a singer has this "FOUNDATION", then he/she can *ADAPT* this into contemporary singing (i.e. contemporary vowel placements, use of twang, use of mask resonance, etc.). The bottom line: That "Opera KZbin channel" is actually a great source on *THE FOUNDATIONS* of singing. People today ignore the foundations of singing, which explains why most of today's singers are lightweight singers. Not many can actually sing in a "big, fully engaged" way (i.e. great TA muscle development). The majority of singers today have a weak foundation (i.e. underdeveloped chest voice).

getting drowned by that luscious vibrato and resonance in the 4th octave to D5/Eb5 is already enough for me, higher than that is forgiveable and just bonuses.

and im gonna say this again there are a lot of belters higher than others but grace in most of the notes sung is rarely possessed by a singer (both in Tagalog and English). things like diction, enunciation are already too little too late to study once you've reached adulthood. an edge that Mori has in all of her Philippine contemporaries at the moment.
