Well thats the thing really, ALL OF THEM sound rediculous if you heard them without the cultural priming. The only reason the older ones dont sound as nuts at first is because almost all of us grow up in an enviroment where one of them is just continual background noise. Think about it this way, Christians may criticize Hindus for say, their death ritual, which consists of cremation functioning as their god of fire consuming the body of the deceased, bringing them to the afterlife. but Christians belive the only way for ones soul to be pure is to be washed in the blood of Christ who was tortured to death over the course of 3 days If you never heard of either faith, which would sound more "reasonable" if either?

Second, for Valhalla specifically, they still had to do physical labor and they were only there in preparation for the war they would fight during their version of the apocalypse. When I was a kid, I thought that heaven would be a place of your own making where you could choose what you wanted to do for the rest of eternity. As I got older I realized this would cause problems because not everyone would want to be alone and not everyone would choose the same people to be around or the same places that they would want to go with each other. No, it's where you go while you wait until judgement. After judgement you go to one of the "three degrees of glory", or "outer darkness". Outer darkness is the equivalent of hell. In Mormonism it's kind of hard to go there. If you know the truth and choose to leave it (like me) then you may qualify for outer darkness.

Catholic: Purgatory is where you wait for someone to pray for you because you sinned and didn't go to confession with a priest before you died. As cath school students we asked a substitute teacher what if we are on our way to confession with a priest but get hit by a car. Well, ghen she thought Jesus would pardon you. Or, you could just ask Jesus to forgive your sin before you left the house.
@warrencheif
@warrencheif 12 күн бұрын
@@haldouglas4773thanks I didn't realize that! The Mormon version is a little different because if you were baptized and faithful you go to "paradise" to wait, otherwise you go to spirit prison. They never talked about how that's done without judgement. Like Alyssa said we always taught that there is missionary work in spirit prison. You can come and go as you please if you were Mormon which is a pretty nice feature if you ask me. It'll cost 10% of your income though!

Doyle was fascinated by the religious sects and “secret societies” of the Americas. He wrote about them in his books but didn’t really know all that much about them (luckily for him, neither did all his British readership). In the short story “The Three Orange Pips”, the villains turn out to be the American “secret society” . . . the Ku Klux Klan. Which sounds okay, until you realize the story mentions none of the racism, homophobia or anti-semitism they’re known for. Instead, he just uses them as a general “secret society” doing vague cloak-and-dagger stuff.

It really does feed off of the fear of going to hell and for what. I grew up Baptist and I remember they used to teach that in heaven nothing else mattered to you but god. Getting to see family again or meet inspiringChristians weren't even smtg they taught would happen, just "motivation" and a way to cope with death. Basically if you live everything Mormon, you go to the highest. (But not just outwardly. Like you have to be a good person inside too. God won't let in fakers.) If you're basically a good person, but not Mormon, you go to the middle one. I think you might have to accept Jesus to get into this one, but I can't remember. If you did bad stuff (basically didn't follow the 10 commandments and didn't repent), you suffer in hell for a bit, then you go to the lowest kingdom. If you basically joined the devil and did like really evil stuff, you go to hell and stay there forever. I've never really been clear on of it's Hitler like stuff that sends you there or if you have to be like a Mormon prophet and then reject the church. But basically you have to really try to go to hell to go to hell. From what I understand if the doctrine, Alyssa wouldn't go to hell, she'd go to the lowest heaven. There's not a lot written or known about the different heavens except that the lowest heaven is so wonderful that people would literally kill themselves to get there if they understood what it was. Like, it's better than our lives here. And each level of heaven is better than the last. God is in the top one. In the top one families exist, but not in any of the others. Jesus visits the middle heaven sometimes. And everyone is quite happy in all the heavens, but happiness increases the higher up you go. No real description other than that, except in the highest heaven you get to eventually become a God after a lot more learning. The top heaven is described as "eternal progression" which is sometimes talked about as having a lot of kids and learning a lot of knowledge. Hell isn't fire and brimstone. It's more like eternal mental anguish. It's also said that judgement day isn't really God judging you. It's more about where you feel you belong. Like if you weren't a good person, you wouldn't actually want to be near God.

God only gives grace to the humble, not through proud ‘religions’. Very sad. You who are stuck in this ‘works - righteousness’ religion, read the book of John. The standard for truth is God's word; Isaiah 14:12-14 King James Version 12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. 15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

The funny thing is, we are all doomed to hell in someone else's religion. 'Believers' need to ask themselves how much they really care about some other religion's 'hell' claims. That might give them a sense about how Atheists feel about all religion.

I love the combination of "you'll be with your family in heaven" and "you'll be the god of your own planet". Everyone will have their own planet to be god for but at the same time you will be with your family. Also you'll be with your family gets very crowded very fast if everyone has multiple kids who all get married and have their own kids. Also i'm not a mormon but the threat of you have to live with your family after you die is enough to not want to be a mormon. I love my family but 20 years of living with them was enough.

When we went to a memorial service for my father in law’s girlfriend, even though they were together 50 plus years. One of my nephews (by marriage) he said “most of us our sons and daughters of Heavenly Father. I’m catholic and his blood uncle is Buddhist. Ouch! The Catholic Church won’t recognize my marriage to my husband. He’s baptized catholic. It’s so much bs. Catholic Church also requires 10 percent tithing. It’s crazy. So at the LDS temple. It obvious the ones who go to heaven are the Pagans. Because they are do much to love nature, and they just have la-la-la-la in their hearts and the animals have crossed the rainbow bridge. And la-la-la-la it’s all about butterflies and rainbows and flowers and love and. ….

If the Mormons were right then the characters shouldn't be in Hell because Mormonism doesn't have a concept of a literally fiery, physically painful Hell. It has a concept of Outer Darkness but even that is not literally painful. People will supposedly suffer emotional pain and sorrow there due to separation from God and his abounding love. I actually like this aspect of Mormonism. That everyone will be offered salvation in the afterlife and eventually go to some heavenly place. Even those who reject salvation in Spirit Prison will eventually be let out to live in a telestial kingdom.

I’m honestly so mad that they baptize kids at 8, it may be better than as a baby because they have some idea of what the church is, but they’re really just being brainwashed and doing it for their parents. My youngest sibling is 8 and just about to get baptized and he’s so excited and I just feel bad for him because I remember being excited like that but now as an ex-mo at almost 19 I wish I would have been older to understand better and make my own decision because 8 year olds don’t understand Edit: sorry I know this is unrelated to the video and long but I needed to rant to someone who would understand

I've lived in Utah my entire life. I find baptism for the dead extreamly offensive. Because it changes records. I don't want decendents in the future to look up their geniology and have it say that I was mormon. I want in my obiturary to say "Anathema to anyone who baptizes me after my death. I am Greeks and for hundreds of years they had secret schools to keep the Greek language and relegion preserved under the Ottomans" I am serious that I find it so ofensive.

Morman is not a religion tbh because if you think about it they believe in works and "faith" they say they believe in God, yet they believe they will be a God one day themselves, which shows they honestly don't believe in a God of they can be one. The Earth and man could never be made from a single particle, because that particle would have to be made by something, which means something spiritual and powerful, which means there is a God, but only one God that made this Earth and us. Just read the Bible, just the Holy Bible.

Y’know what? Death in Mormonism seems to be pretty low stakes comparatively, like Spirit Prison sounds like it sucks but I guess I’d be dumb to not just concede if I am indeed wrong and they’re right. Until then, I’ll continue my heathen ways.

Someone should point out that Baptism for the dead doesn't force anyone to become a Mormon. People get upset about that, but the dead don't have to accept it. Picture it --- You're sitting in hell, hanging out with all the rapists and murderers and stockbrokers and lawyers, enduring daily torture. Suddenly, an angel comes up to you and says that some Mormon just got baptized in your name, and you can get out of prison if you accept. You don't have to accept. You can stay there and take your chances if you prefer.

I know the whole baptism for the dead. While creepy its kind of cool tho. Because no one really know what or if anything exists beyond death. Everyone believes their way is the only way. It's kind of cool to think 'oops. Mormons were right, but i did it cathlic. Shit' then they do a postmortem baptism and you get a chance to get out of essentially purgatory. I mean it's nicer then let's say cathlics laughing in heaven because screw all those who had to make a choice and happened to choose wrong and now suffer for eternity tho they were good people in life but went as a label of protestant instead of cathlic. Just nice to think that atleast one thinks to offer a post mortem olive branch incase you found out you were wrong . Now the rest of the religion tho....
