I was a missionary. I went though the temple in 2000. Having an old man touch you on your naked body only wearing a sheet was creepy and disturbing. Also, confessing things of a sexual nature as a minor to an adult is just wrong! As a father I would never but my sons or daughters through this abuse!

I’m not sure if anyone else went through this, but I had my privates rubbed with an anointing oil and my breasts touched and examined for impurities. I had to put on a white hospital gown before doing this. It was very traumatic for me and I don’t disclose it often to others.

I love your spin. Some of the creepier parts of the temple ceremony have been removed (again) but it's still very disturbing. If you're LDS you know how many people were freaked out the first time they went through the temple, pre- or post-1990. One of my college roommates almost didn't report for his mission after going through the temple with his parents. They had to beg him to report to the MTC. There is plenty of creepiness left and it isn't of God and you know it.

God is of it, we have been conditioned to distrust strangers but the brothers and sisters of this church aren't strangers. they are known and a source of safety. I understand being freaked out is natural but when you breathe and think and trust in all things, it gets better and you realize how valuable the ordinances are.

Yes, I was raised mormon. I went on a mission and am a BYU graduate. What got me on the path towards leaving mormonism was the things I learned at BYU like evolution, geology, anthropology, and biology and how much it contradicted mormonism. I also was very troubled that LDS Inc was building the most expensive mall in the history of mankind while I was busting my ass while they expected 10% of my meager wages. The nail in the coffin was the mess of the Book of Abraham.

Yes, the Lost Book of Abraham. Joseph Smith, with no academic qualifications to translate ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, cooked up a translation that had nothing to do with Abraham. The papyrus he purchased was just a pagan Egyptian burial ritual.

The most amazing and ironic thing about all the temple ritual stuff is that nowhere in any scriptures or historical writings are any of these rituals described, and nowhere do we see that Christians built or worshiped in temples, other than perhaps a few going into the temple of Solomon, just as a habit.

Actually, people with eyes to see find the temple ritual through out the entire Old and New Testament, as well as The Book of Mormon. In fact the whole of the records are the temple ritual To a T. People who fill their hearts and minds with lies, hate and falsehoods cannot see these glorious symbolisms and that’s just because the Lord is kind. But, the temple ritual, symbols and signs are throughout the entire ancient and modern accounts. And it is wonderful to see. ☀️❤️

K - I am an ex-Mormon atheist who has been through the temple ceremonies somewhere between 50 and 100 times while a believer (though I only experienced the version after they took out the death penalties in 1990, what I experienced was very similar to what you see in this video - which, it should be noted, is incomplete). So, I think I'm owed some credibility in the minds of non-Mormon's when I tell you that this video is misrepresenting the ceremony. Not in the words and actions it portrays - those are pretty accurate - but in the way it imposes a particular impression of them, through the choice of creepy background music, and the wording used to describe what is going on, such as when they use terms such as " _cultic_ ceremonies", and when it says that "It's not uncommon for _demons_ impersonating the dead to appear to Mormons stating that they've been converted to the Mormon Church in the spirit world, and now want their family history traced". First - Mormons are not specially encouraged to have encounters with the dead, and the experiences of this kind that they report are neither more common nor essentially different than those reported by christians, muslims, hindus, etc of all stripes. Second - this video seems to be alluding to the common christian complaint that Mormons are baptizing their ancestors against their will. This is a misconception of what Mormon's believe they are doing. When I was a missionary I explained it using the analogy of a contract - Mormon's believe that baptism is like a contract between the believer and God that the believer must sign both by the act of being baptized - which is a physical manifestation of the agreement that can be likened to paperwork - and the intentions of their mind and heart, which can be likened unto their signature. When one is baptized for the dead, one acts as proxy for the dead individual, filling out the paperwork that they cannot do for themselves (since they no longer have a body), but for it to have effect the person, yes - in the spirit world - must agree in heart and mind to accept the baptism that was conducted on their behalf. The short of it is that, according to the Mormon belief, no one is forced to accept the baptism that is done for them in the temple, nor are they in any other way forced to be a Mormon after they die. Third - What it's like to go through the temple as a believer is generally very different than what it's like to view the ceremonies as an outsider. As a believer, going through the temple ceremonies can be a highly spiritual experience through which one comes to feel much closer to God, greater appreciation for Jesus, and an increased desire to be the best kind of person one can be. Often, people who are struggling with some real difficulties in life go to the temple and there find peace and inspiration for how to deal with their problems, leading them to give up habits and perspectives that are holding them back, such as by forgiving someone who hurt them, or by making amends for something they have done wrong against another. In the temple, believers often receive the inspiration they need to save their marriage, to choose a career that will turn out to be wildly fulfilling, or to make peace with the loss of a loved one, for example. Too often, people view the words, actions, and experiences of other people through the lens of their own life experience rather than by trying on the shoes of that other person. This is a mistake that the producers of this video made and are trying to get you to make. That said - it is true that not all Mormons are truly comfortable with the temple ceremonies, which seems to be the primary reason that they have been changed from time to time. In fact, I think it is probably true that even most members who genuinely love going to the temple have felt some discomfort with the temple ceremonies. The clothes and ritualistic nature of the ceremonies is very different than what one encounters in a Mormon Sunday service, and one gets essentially no forewarning of what will happen when they go to the temple for the first time. Even without the death penalties (which I hadn't even heard of until I was a missionary, and then only learned of it through someone I was teaching), I found it to be an eyebrow raising experience when I first went through. At one point I whispered to my brother, half joking, half serious - "well, now I know why people call us a cult!". Ultimately, I wasn't too bothered because I trusted in the character, judgement, and intentions of the people around me, and I went on to have some truly wonderful experiences in the Temple. But, the clothing and the supposedly deep symbolism was always obscure and unenlightening to me (no matter how hard I tried to see it otherwise) and more importantly - some of the commentary and oaths troubled me. Especially the sexism that was latent in many parts of the ceremony (they've just made changes, effective this month (jan 2019) to address this problem) and when we are lead to "consecrate" all our time, talents, money, etc to the church (should the church call on us to do so). The requirement to not reveal the "signs and tokens of the priesthood", also felt off to me, as did the general insistence on keeping it all "sacred"/secret.
@tinman3586
@tinman3586 2 жыл бұрын
As a former believing Mormon who also served a mission (but did not attend BYU) I can confirm this is true. The aforementioned sexism in the ceremony primarily comes from the part where the man will covenant (or promise/swear an oath) to God and obey His commandments and the woman will then covenant to obey her husband as he obey's God. I understood this to mean that the husband/father was the spiritual leader of his household, but also that he is the one accountable for this family therefore making him the "patriarch". Now prior to say the 1980s few people would have really bat an eye at this however it does not mesh well with the current social atmosphere in developed western nations. Whether you believe changing this ceremony was right or wrong it is undeniable that this part of the Temple ceremony was recently changed to accommodate current social trends. For me this is what kicked off my questioning of the church and it's claims of divinity and down the rabbit hole I went. With that being said, most modern Christian Evangelicals are just as much cultists as they claim Mormons to be, if not more so.

Perfect-no but damn close. Even when I was active in the church, the concerted effort of church leaders to whitewash, deny or simply ignore church history was always repugnant to me. I didn't know who I was anymore. 6 years later, I'm STILL trying to figure it out. What prompted me to start looking into my various doubts was the Mall of Mammon. REPEAT IN CASE YOU MISSED THIS BEFORE: thank you for your service, sorry to hear this. Science and Religion are at harmony, its that we must trust and continue to think in ways that scripture might serve as a metaphor for those scientific discovery's. Evolution has its own problems, humans have been on the earth for more than 2 thousand years yet no evolution has happened in the slightest. I also want to you know that that mall served as a return on members tithing. the Church made 10% more than 10% so they can build temples across the world near to members and provide the convenience needed. book of abraham was divinely translated and unfortunately the papyri got burned and is documented by many historians (church and not church) and so the translations might not add up. I read it as good to have given this circumstance and neither me nor the church accept it as scripture.

Really? Ecclesiastes 9:7 instructs, “Drink your wine with a merry heart.” Psalm 104:14-15 states that God gives wine “that makes glad the heart of men.” Amos 9:14 discusses drinking wine from your own vineyard as a sign of God’s blessing. Isaiah 55:1 encourages, “Yes, come buy wine and milk…” While the bible discourages drunkenness (alcoholism), it clearly states that there's nothing wrong with moderate consumption and even encourages it.

It was mostly just a bunch of platitudes like, "you're all wonderful...you are many...you live in many different lands...many different languages..." Nothing of substance. "We have all the scripture we need?" Lol, yet past morg profits and doctrine say otherwise. Oh, and the BoA and BoM are the some of the most easily-disproved and asinine books of all fiction.

But it does not drive people to devote their life in the service of God while enduring persecution and other trials from forces around them. That takes a real motivation, hard dedication. Its one thing to say "If there is a God I receive eternal glory, and if not then the joys and pains end now." It is a much different thing to say "I know there is a God and therefore I will endure a life in his service." The people I have described know there is a God and that he loves them.

The green aprons are a part of the Endowment, NOT baptism for the dead. This video isn't just portraying a part of necrobaptism, but also the Endowment and Initiatory. You are commenting on things you know NOTHING about. Just because you've done necrobaptisms doesn't mean you've seen it all. And just like 21sarahavis said, deceased mormons are buried in the temple garb, which includes the green apron. Women perform the initiatory on other women in the temple because of the past naked touching.

The ceremony is delightful. Good feelings of brotherhood and sisterhood abound. Lights are dimmed while watching video but not in live actor sessions. The lights are dimmed during the representation of the lower kingdoms but illumination increases as one progresses to the celestial representation. No one will take your life for revealing the 'sacred' ordinances (or this guy would be gone, wouldn't he?) but emphasis is placed on the importance of keeping covenants.

Actually, a lot of people know a lot about Mormonism. In fact, most of the critics of mormonism know more about the skeletons in mormonism's closet than mormons do. Hell, I didn't know that Horny Joe, the founder of mormonism, had multiple wives until I was 25. As OP, I've defended the membership of the cult. Mormons are not Satanic. No, mormons don't invite anyone to find out for themselves of the content of the temple rituals. You have to go to third party sources to find out the content. It's not until you've paid your 10% and have the jesus permission slip that you can enter the temple and find out the content. They never endorse researching anything relating to mormonism outside of official sources, just like any other cult.

Yes, the leadership is cowardly and conniving. Where's LDS Inc's financial disclosures and statements that most non-profits release? Not once has LDS Inc fessed up to past mistakes nor does it fess up to obvious frauds like the Book of Abraham or the Book of Mormon. If they were honest, they'd say "look, the book's not literally true...but there's some stuff we can learn from it." I know all about temples. I was a mormon for 25 years, served a mission, and graduated from YBU.

You see, Mormon apologists start with the notion that LDS Inc is true and go scour the Earth to find coincidences while IGNORING everything that doesn't fit their preconceived ideas. The fact of the matter is that Mormonism is completely untenable. It's been disproved in hundreds of different ways and is much easier to disprove than Judiasm or Christianity because LDS Inc claims modern prophetic revelation direct from YHWH while claiming omnipotence and omniscience for him.

The reason that the date given is 1990 is because the video was produced in 1982. I would argue that The Godmakers had a significant influence in toning down the Endowment. Yes, aspects were changed before then. But of course that contradicts what past profits said in that the temple rituals are unchangeable and that Adam was specifically given charge to see to it that they NEVER be changed.

I wouldn't say it's necessarily satanic. It's really just a rip-off of Masonic rituals, which are themselves derived from other religious traditions -- many of which have historically informed the Judeo-Christian tradition. It may be a little odd to an outsider, but it's not evil.

Ok I was not entirely accurate when saying everything in this video was false. I wasn't really paying attention to what that comment insinuated, and did not mean to deceive anybody. It is true that there was an oath taken to not reveal what happened within the temple. The graphic representations in these rituals ceased in the 1920's. The goal off every person is to return to live with God, and the fact that the prophet Joseph Smith, being a just man, is with Heavenly Father is irrelevant.

Just because something appears similar, doesn't mean there's a real connection. There's all sorts of coincidences between the Lincoln and JFK assasinations-both shot in the head, by southerners, succeeded by southerners who were named Johnson, both elected to congress in '46, both elected President in '60, both assassins born in '39, both presidents were shot on a Friday, both were warned not to go to the places where they were murdered. That doesn't mean there's any actual connection.

There's only a couple of Mormons that publicly spoke out against Hitler and were executed. Mormons did not make up a large population in Nazi Germany. 600 of them were in the German Army. I don't judge them nor do I really blame the cult on what it did during this time period. @Lisarata The trinity is none other than Osiris the father, Horus, the son, and Ra the Highest Sun...egyptian sun gods. Osiris represented the *setting* sun, and is reborn/resurrected as Horus, the *rising* sun. Ra, who alone represented the *mid-day* sun, completes the trinity as "Ra-Horakty" (Ra who is Horus of the two Horizons), the conflation of all 3 gods and positions of the sun. The title "Horakty" indicates that son was also regarded being the father (setting sun).
