@@PhdAAA The LDS only let black people hold any sort of place in the church when their tax-exemption was threatened. Joseph Smith looked at golden plates in a hat with a rock in it to translate the history of Native American Jews, I don’t think he’s very credible in the first place.

@@PhdAAA It's not that they weren't aloud. The issue just hadn't come up at that point because there hadn't been Gentile converts until then. And when it did, the revelation came about right away. If the early Church did it the way Mormonism did, they would have continue to deny Gentiles full membership and then conveniently had "revelation" if the secular Romans used their refusal to let them in against them.

Because these religions are man-made nonsense which do not hold up to critical thinking. ​​@@davidfrey5654I thought it would have been obvious. Throughout the Old testament, God has made a covenant with the jewish people and have allowed them grace amongst others. But God did say that one day, the blessings and promises they have shall be given over to the gentiles. Jesus fulfilled the prophecy by first offering salvation to the jews and then to the rest of us. Though there had been instances where Jesus spoke to Samarians, Canaanites and those outside of the jewish culture. Ironically, Jesus's message was well received by non-jews while the majority of the jewish temples and people rejected Him, thus leading to His crucifixion. God has made numerous statements throughout the Bible that the jews have been a stiff-necked people all the way who have barely been faithful to Him, that is why Jesus made allusions and parables like the wedding guests, the seeds and so forth. Some jews even today reject Christianity and believe salvation is only something the jews are entitled to and no one elses. Racist doctrines still exist.

Michael Steven Martin​ When people try to tell me about how special jesus was i always liken him to Joseph Smith. I tell them that both of them were just failed prophets that had zealous followers willing to believe anything. I use Joseph Smith as an example to show how a man can be turned into a prophet/deity by his followers.

They do not consider them to have any magical powers whatsoever. they do take them off just like regular people take off their underwear. They are worn as a reminder of promises they make to god. Jesus himself was black. Adam was black ( he was made of dust or mud). The whole Bible is a historical book of Blacks!!! Therefore, the priesthood according to the Bible ( Black people's book), belongs to Hebrew Israelites who are Black. In 2012 Gerd Muller discovered that the garden of Eden is between Ethiopia and Eritrea. It is the pink Adam and Eve who need to be explained to world that is so blind that they don't understand. Before Europeans came to Africa with Bible, most African Bantu communities were holding religious rituals that were 1:1 as the old testament. They were also circumcising their sons as is written in the Old Testament. The reason why they lost it is explained in Deut.28:15-65. These were prophetic curses that were to be befall Hebrew Israelites if they didn't obey their God. And these is evident with the Blacks in America today who originated from Bantu communities in Africa.

+fearlesscrusader- why does your crowd never mention the billions of dollars spent by the Church each year for disaster relief alone. not to mention our record of humanitarian works. Do think that doesn't cost money- that we just grow it on trees- now that would be a miracle. We grow or make it, gather it, get it ready, fly it where its needed before anyone else barely gets in gear, and we distribute it- and in distributing it we also find others we can help (and you don't need to be a member or invite the missionaries over)- and then we teach the sufferers long term solutions if we are allowed. The electricity of our buildings also costs money, as does their building, maintenance and upkeep. We pay property taxes (though we could get out of the) on our religious structures, and we pay all taxes on any non-exempt businesses the Church owns while other churches hide business revenues under religious exemption. Remember what Jesus said was true religion (look it up), or Ask the Missionaries!

Busta Busta...well if you back at politics and race....most blacks years ago were Republican and at one time (when it was allowed and to my surprise) held legislative seats in southern states as Republicans....but around the time civil rights era was in full bloom southern white democrats were displeased with what a southern democratic president did...(Lyndon Johnson) in signing that bill back in the 60's and in his words he mentioned that they (the democrats) will lose a lot of people due to it....so that is why we also see so many blacks that are democrats and white southerner and in rural america are republicans...in time, views and ideas seem to flip flop.

The priesthood ban bothers me somewhat, but what bothers me more is saying that segregation is of God, and the theories of the curse of cain and black skin. Would have been better if they just said that they didn't know the reason for the priesthood ban instead of making theories and rumors about it, like those of black african descent not being faithful, or being less valiant in the premortal world, which I don't believe is even in the scriptures. As horrible as it is, The Book of Mormon is true. Thats what helps anchor me.

But here’s some stuff from your book: “Let all that you do be done in love.” “Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.” “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. Throughout history of God and man the priesthood was always limited as to its membership. For example, with the Children of Israel only the Levites held the priesthood and fortunately today all worthy male members can receive this priesthood. The power of this priesthood is not in who holds it but the ordinance that can be preformed through it. For example only men with the priesthood can baptize but its not the man who baptizes that receives the blessing but the one getting baptized and that is the exact same for men and women.

It's so patently false. Black skinned OK, but not if African. "Reasons not fully known to man, but known to the Lord." Until changed shortly thereafter by "revelation." Some African men did receive the Mormon Priesthood when Joseph Smith was alive. Joseph knew about it and did not object to it. The restrictive policy of not ordaining African men to the priesthood was from Brigham Young. There is no recorded revelation that restricted priesthood in the latter-days. Brigham Young provided physical characteristics to identify those who were restricted, such as having a flat nose. There existed doctrines from other Christian churches of that era about the Bible's description of the mark of cain and what that meant. In Mormon Scripture, there is a verse that was speaking about the time of the Pharaohs, and that African men were stating that they had the priesthood when in fact they shouldn't because of their lineage. Later Presidents of the Church expected a revelation to end the restriction, rather than just changing the policy. This revelation occurred in the 1970s when Spencer W. Kimball was President. Some believe that this was a reaction to political pressure from the then President of the US, Jimmy Carter. The rumor says the issue was the Church's tax exempt status (if you want to keep it, change the policy about African men being restricted from the priesthood). Although the change has occurred, the African community of all nations are still wary of the LDS Church. It may take decades, perhaps centuries, to finally heal this rift.

Colin Patterson You should keep in mind that Brigham Young, Joseph Smith and all their cronies were racist. At this point the conditions are worse than complicated, as so many colored people have intermarried white Mormons of good will who were also very upset against their own people, in the horrendously white supremacist state of Utah. Many white Mormons are leaving the religion where they were born and grew up, to wander around in the circles of atheism and humanism, since they don't find peace in the convoluted environment that the racist history of Mormonism brought up to them, historically. These white people are suffering for the odds that not themselves but their ancestors and culture have caused. For those who were not born Mormons, the return to their religions of origin comes in a smooth way, because they do have friends and culture to relate to. That is what happened to me when I discovered the Journals of Brigham Young and at that point I understood the nature and reason of the Virgin of Guadalupe, a black virgin in the Catholic religion where I was raised up. But, for those who do not relate in their childhood having been raised into a different religion where they may resort to in the case they face the contradictions of Mormonism, the stronghold fails, causing enormous pain and suffering to people who are not guilty of having been born and raised in the fanatical white supremacy of the traditional Mormon Church. For this reason, I strongly suggest you to consider compassion as the only spiritual tool that should allow all of us, no matter what color, to realize that even in the event that a religion was created and made by men who had their own shortcomings and prejudices, the people of this generation who are born and raised inside Mormonism are as vulnerable as the people "of color" when they face the contradictions that are contained in a religion that is desperately trying to make things right, in spite of all the historical wrongs. Please let keep this in mind and try to separate your anger and disagreement with the incoherences of the dogma, from the persons of all colors that are suffering today as much as any person of color does, at the confrontation of the wrongs that racism has brought to each of us through a religion that was evidently monitored by the racist hatred of those who created it. The quest is now not for destruction but for reformation. Let me give you one example of Reformation: Martin Luther, creator of the Lutheran Church in Europe, wrote most vicious statements against the Jews. Yet, the Lutheran Church has apologized and corrected their purpose and calling, so that today one can rest assured that when contacting a Lutheran reverend, the anti-Semitic part will have been recognized and corrected. This attitude is reflected in Joseph Smith's first literary work, the Book of Mormon. O my brethren, I fear that unless ye shall repent of your sins that their skins will be whiter than yours, when ye shall be brought before the throne of God (Book of Mormon, Jacob 3:8). And the skins of the Lamanites were dark, according to the mark which was set upon their fathers, which was a curse upon them because of their transgression and their rebellion against their brethren, . . . who were just and holy men . . . and the Lord God set a mark upon them, yea, upon Laman and Lemuel, and also the sons of Ishmael, and Ishmaelitish women. And this was done that their seed might be distinguished from the seed of their brethren, that [p. 7] thereby the Lord God might preserve his people, that they might not mix and believe in incorrect traditions . . . (Book of Mormon, Alma 3:6). Towards the end of the Book of Mormon one of the righteous leaders, Mormon, declares that in the last days the gospel will again be taken to the Lamanites that the seed of this people may more fully believe his gospel, which shall go forth unto them from the Gentiles; for this people shall be scattered, and shall become a dark, a filthy, and a loathsome people, beyond the description of that which ever hath been amongst us, yea, even that which hath been among the Lamanites, and this because of their unbelief and idolatry (Book of Mormon, Mormon 5:15). The Lamanites purportedly destroyed all of the Nephites in battle approximately A.D. 400, thus leaving only the dark skinned people in the land. While the Book of Mormon states that God "denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free" (2 Nephi 26:33), it still embraces a racist concept that dark skin is a curse from God.

So the Lamanites are todays indigenous people? I feel like the BOM belongs more to the indigenous people than the anglo people but sadly mormonism in general has been white washed for most of its existence. Before joining a faith do some research first because most missionaries don't know the full history of their religion or have been denied getting access knowledge of previous book editions that still exists. If the books say or said something about skin color that is considered degrading, then don't join the religion.

@@petrovtiganu9904 This is a myth. The Book of Mormon doesn’t contain Africans, and neither Joseph Smith, nor any other LDS prophet has taught that Africans lived in ancient America. Joseph Smith also said that it wasn’t a reference to race. The policy actually was derived from a very brief passage in the Book of Moses (another LDS book of scripture). It’s truly a despicable stain on the history of the Church.

No problem if you dont want to be a mormon priest black shouldn't let their disapproval or anger stop them from learning about other people in the world and our own identity. We dont hate Mormons we love God and food and pro creating and helping people trying to be harmonious with all people who are truthful and we understand that life is an opportunity to love, but we realise others see it as a chance to make money and get more power so we celebrate our ancestors for enduring inequality hatred and lies as the truth, the mormons have a right to choose their priests we have the choice to not become mormons.

I've noticed within the past 5yrs in my area, their Missionaries are no longer avoiding our doors or running away when they see us answer the door. That's all it used to take for them to quickly & quietly leave and never return. Lately, they attempt to fellowship me and have even invited me to attend a service. I have seen their old school animated video on the origin of our race, and I know how they view us. I'm just confused on where this change came from, because it still has me scratching my head.

I been doubt of all religions. I can understand someone having a need, calling, sense of fullfulment. Some claim they received answers from prayer. I haven't. Tried, once believed even when nothing came of it. I find inspiration from within, my belief that in order for all to live among each other, a morality is needed, a social morality. I meditate. So many ask my advice on life issues, yes, the religious, and they know I'm not religious.

The ban ended in 1978. Therefore your husband can hold the priesthood. But the church leadership has not rescinded or rejected the following supporting claims that were repeatedly made by Church Presidents, apostles, and First Presidency statements in support of the ban: (a) Cain's skin was darkened to indicate cursing, (b) Cain's descendants have dark skin, (c) Lamanite (Native American) skin was darkened as an indicator of cursing, (d) skin color has been lightened/darkened by God as an indicator of cursing or good/bad character, (e) people with dark skin were less faithful in the pre-existence by failing to side with Jesus against Satan. Maybe you should know the theology and history of the church you defend.None of that is intended to take away from the memory of your husband - let's assume he was a good man and I'm sorry for your loss.

It is likely she may be telling the truth. The LDS Church has grown in Africa and among many Africans. In many cases the converts know nothing (at least at first, if they ever learn) about the racism within LDS theology and history. It is very possible that Christina Ostil might not know about the racist history and theology. Recruiting in Africa has the following benefits for LDS as a church: (a) growth in membership numbers which has always been very important to church leadership, (b) it is a cover that allows the LDS Church to claim that there is no racism within the church, even as it fails to address core problems that remain. The LDS Church and its defenders can say "see, we have increasing diversity in membership" whenever anyone points out problems such as I just did. When racism is seen as merely something exhibited one-person-to-another then it is also possible for Chrsitina to point to a lack of cruelty experienced in the church by her husband (and this again may be the case). But when it is seen as something broader and systemic then we need to look at the type of systemic issues I brought up in my response to her.

My heart was broken that many Mormons do think black skin is cursed. I mean if you are black some will avoid you. It’s so heart breaking because one’s skin color isn’t cursed. I honestly believe the situations and circumstance that a black person is put into created unknowingly by some. Then will say later see I told you black skinned was cursed. But it’s not cursed if you have to create situations. That’s what is happening the black skinned isn’t cursed not until you meet one of them who has intentions of this type of behavior and put you in a position to look like your skin is cursed. If they been doing it for years they are a pro at it today. To meet such nice people teach you about the Bible etc and then have this kind of mind set is mind blowing to me. I know first hand now what it’s like to be amongst wolves in sheep clothing🤔

I have seen several comments claiming that God is racist based on writings in the holy books. This is hard to deny. The central theme of the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) is that God gave Abraham exclusive rights to a large tract of land. Then Abraham's descendants fight over it because it is not clear who the "rights" pass to as people die. The Jews came back from Egypt 400 years later to claim their land, and there is nothing said about a "statute of limitations", and God commands them to kill all living things currently in that land. Since God does not provide a universal "title holding" company to reconcile this, the only motivation that humans can see is racism. Stating that Gods ways are beyond our comprehension is not satisfying. All one can do is accept this on faith. For me, this and things like it leave a bad taste in my mouth.

The Mormon God and the Living Prophet have had communication problems in the past. An example of this occurred in 1978 when the RACIST Mormon God and the "Living Prophet" at the time. Spencer Kimball, had a discussion about blacks and the priesthood. It turns out the RACIST Mormon God was not very happy with Spencer for giving blacks the priesthood. During their conversation, the poor hearing Spencer, thought the RACIST Mormon God said: "Give the blacks the priesthood". However what the RACIST Mormon God actually said was "Get the blacks back in their neighborhood".

first lie is they have an unpaid clergy. The top 152 leaders are paid $259,000.00/year as a "stipend". Plus they all have access to multi-million dollar expense accounts, plus the church pays for all their travel, food, lodging at the best 5 star hotels, restaurants, plane tickets, etc. The rank and file members pay 10% of their gross income as tithing. As of today the church, instead of giving these consecrated tithing funds to charity have horded and stock-piled over $150 BILLION in the Ensign Peak Advisors Fund. The church was just fined $5,000,000.00 by the SEC for hiding their billions in 13 layers of shell companies and not filing their 13F form required by all entities worth more than $100,000,000.00. One of the conditions of the settlement with the SEC was the church has to reveal how much the church leaders were paid.

He had placed before my wife and I five years of spiritual and emotional trials, so that we may better know His grace. The most enlightening and rewarding action a member of the Mormon Faith can do is precisely what they have been told to do: “Study the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ and the teachings of the Prophets of the Restoration”. according to the mormon book - 2 Nephi 5:21 Black skin is a curse, but this is not biblical all over the bible we see black skin is not only beautiful but the accepted standard - Solomon 1 : 5-6, says I am black but beutiful... also Revelation of Jesus christ 1: 14 - 15, describes Jesus as a black man and so on.......Any black or Hispanic man who follow this religion needs to come back to the most high god and repent! Ironically, Pacific islanders where were recruited by the Mormon church have now moved in large numbers to the Salt Lake area, there, they are increasingly involved in gang violence and other crimes. Today, black men can (and do) hold office in the LDS church, overturning the interpretation of Joseph Smith's original thoughts on the matter. That, also ironically, is also one of the main failures of the Mormons as an organized body. In the Bible, which they claim to hold sacred, Jesus says that He's the same yesterday, today and forever. His role in the Mormon church is drastically different than the role the Bible describes for Him. The role of God, HIs Son and His TRUE church, governed through council with God's Holy Spirit, are always unchanging. Styles, attitudes and opinions of man changes frequently. If nothing else, you must recognize that God is consistent. So is His message. Groups like the Mormons, like the Masons, from which Smith formed most of his ritual doctrine (like the silly handshakes, magical underwear, and hand gestures supposedly necessary to get into heaven), the Jehovah's Witnesses, and similar large cults all share common attributes. They were all started by a human being (usually, but in not all cases, a man), this person's word is literally taken as "the gospel truth," rules are established, ritual, ceremony and conduct created, then changed, as required by the fashionable opinions of the day. Forming a genuine and lasting relationship with Christ is, as so very many have said, the only genuine road to eternal salvation and ultimately, happiness. Large cults, with massive amounts of income, spend that money annually in the billions to promote their distinctive "takes" on who and what God is. They are all wrong. You'll find God in the first chapters of the book of John, in the Psalms, the Proverbs, and in your heart. Christ Himself warned that there would be wolves in sheep's clothing capable of leading even the elect away from the true, and only, God of the Universe. Joseph Smith, and his followers, are such men. On the CONTRARY, "Essenceofthemahog," I was deeply involved with Jehovah's Witnesses for over a decade. I have EVERY publication they put out, spoke for humdreds of hours with members, and am still intelligent enough to realize (and have realized from the beginning) that the entire farce is a man-made cult, nothing more, nothing else. When I first got involved with the Watchtower Society, i was given a redacted Holy BIble, and was told it had been re-written by "the three smartest people in the world." That BS was enough to steer me in the right direction. I asked, "how do we know these were the 'smartest' people? Was it there SAT scores, MENSA membership maybe?" The answer, of course, is that the claim, like EVERY claim made by Watchtower adherents, is pure bull excrement. "Jesus wasn't involved in politics?" Really? What, exactly, do you think the whole episode of overturning the moneychangers tables in the temple was about? The moneychangers were politically affiliated with the Pharisees, the POLITICAL governing body of the local Jewish people. Jesus destroyed their set-up, decrying the fact that they'd turned God's place of worship into a marketplace of thieves - much like the modern churches and political halls of today. I have read, edited, and written a great many books over the last 45 years, many on these very topics. Your suggesting that i get my information from KZbin would be laughable if not so incredibly stupid. The bottom line is this, the Jehovah's Witnesses and the Mormons are cults who share the same manmade nonsense conjured up in upstate New York's "burned over district" in the early 19th-Century. There are LOTS of books written on the subject. Perhaps it's time YOU got off of KZbin, and visited a library or bookstore.

Isa. 54:1 Dan. 9:26 " After 7 week and 62 weeks Messiah shall be cutoff and shall have nothing". It was a prophesy that HE came for the nation of Israel but ascended with nothing but a few thousand Jews and Gentiles in belief. You lie when you claim he didn't preach the Gospel to everyone who thirst, what does that make you? You come in here painting your GOD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST a racist for fulfilling the Law and all that the prophets wrote about HIS 1st visitation. A lot of Latter-day Saints have struggled with this policy by the Church, both during its existence and after. The historical record shows that Joseph Smith was aware of African men receiving the priesthood. And there is no official canonized revelation stating that African men should be barred from holding it in our dispensation. In fact, when Joseph ran for President of the United States he was a solid abolitionist with a plan to free the slaves. Fast forward to Brigham Young who implemented a policy which would delay priesthood ordinations for African men. Subsequent church leaders felt they needed a clear revelation from God to clear things up, which eventually happened in 1978 to the great relief of many church members. Since 1978 the LDS Church has quadrupled in size and is being embraced by our dear brothers and sisters of Africa across the world. Today there are more Latter-day Saints worldwide than Jews. Even notable people such as Gladys Knight have joined. It is an amazing church to be a part of and it is unfortunate that this temporary policy holds some back from exploring it more seriously.

LDSRevelations said, "To say he was a solid abolitionist I think is overstating the case or perhaps more accurately JS's record on slavery is conflicted at best. " Not conflicted, just increasingly informed. Reading the history of Joseph's statements one will find that Joseph's opinion of slavery evolved from Biblically sourced tolerance in the 1830s to abolition in the 1840s. And as you admitted, Priesthood ordinations to African men were happening under Joseph's watch. These are not the actions of someone who interprets the Book of Mormon or Pearl of Great Price (that he supposedly wrote himself) as vehicles for promoting racism and priesthood bans in the current dispensation. Subsequent statements by the First Presidency on the priesthood ban are conflicting. On one hand they state it is a direct commandment and not a policy, but on the other hand they have no canonized scripture to source the commandment. Without it then it can only be a policy. One can debate whether the policy was inspired or not, but it wasn't until President Kimball's revelation that a binding resolution was put into canonized scripture. The body of the church welcomed the change with open arms and with much relief. Since that revelation Church leaders have clarified that many statements by early leaders and members on the matter were wrong or misinformed.

deerjerkydave Hi, Dave. We talked elsewhere on this topic. Advice that I make is seriously to read Bush and Mauss and others who research this. Also, being an apologist for your faith is one thing but there's a fine line - I wish that you and others in the church could openly call wrong things such as this genuinely wrong. And it did last for 130 years, it wasn't just a little "flick in history" to paraphrase Gordon B. Hinkley. Here's about Smith. Yes, in campaigning for President, within his platform he did propose ending slavery while also proposing paying slaveholders for their slaves. The latter part would have been opposed by the abolitionists such as, say, Frederick Douglass - on moral grounds let's not pay for people even on this measure; but Smith is hardly the only one proposing this, though the cost would have been unrealistic. In fairness to your point, here is a quote from Smith I know Mormons love: “The Declaration of Independence ‘holds these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness;’ but at the same time some two or three millions of people are held as slaves for life, because the spirit in them is covered with a darker skin.” (Joseph Smith Campaign for President of the United States, Ensign, Feb 2009) However, Smith did have the prejudices and false views about race that were common in his day. He was afraid that freed former slaves could have a very damaging impact on society, a fear commonly held among many white people of his era: “This must be a tender print, and one which should call forth the candid reflections of all men, and more especially before they advance in an opposition calculated to lay waste the fair states of the South, and let loose upon the world a community of people, who might, peradventure, overrun our country, and violate the most sacred principles of human society, chastity and virtue.“ “The Prophet’s Views on Abolition”, History of the Church Vol 2 p436 He equivocated on the ability to discern whether or not slavery is evil: “No one will pretend to say that the people of the free states are as capable of knowing the evils of slavery, as those who hold slaves. If slavery be an evil, who could we expect would first learn it: Would the people of the free states, or the people of the slave states? All must readily admit, that the latter would first learn this fact. If the fact were learned first by those immediately concerned, who would be more capable than they of prescribing a remedy? And besides, are not those who hold slaves, persons of ability, discernment and candor? Do they not expect to give an account at the bar of God for their conduct in this life? It may no doubt with propriety be said that many who hold slaves live without the fear of God before their eyes; but the same may be said of many in the free states. Then who is to be the judge in this matter?” “The Prophet’s Views on Abolition”, History of the Church Vol 2 p437 Thus, he advocated that abolitionists in the North should "cease their clamor" as below: “So long, then, as the people of the free states, are not interested in the freedom of the slaves, in any other way than upon the mere abstract principles of equal rights, and of the Gospel; and are ready to admit that there are men of piety. who reside in the South, who are immediately concerned, and until they complain and call for assistance, why not cease this clamor, and no further urge the slave to acts of murder, and the master to vigorous discipline, rendering both miserable, and unprepared to pursue that course which might otherwise lead them both to better their conditions? I do not believe that the people of the North have any more right to say that the South shall not hold slaves, than the South have to say the North shall.“ “The Prophet’s Views on Abolition”, History of the Church Vol 2 p437 So, in sum, we have in Smith a complex picture. Yes, he did advocate abolition while running for President. But he also had some negative prejudices about people with black skin that he expressed. And he was not active in the abolition movement - this was not a man who would be found in the Underground Railroad Station alongside Frederick Douglass or Sojourner Truth nor did he advocate that Northerners should be involved in these efforts.

And so far from that prediction being averse to the mind of God, it remains as a lasting monument of the decree of Jehovah, to the shame and confusion of all who have cried out against the South, in consequence of their holding the sons of Ham in servitude. “And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.” “Blessed be the Lord God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant” (Gen. 9:25, 26). -Joseph Smith, The Prophet’s Views on Abolition”, History of the Church Vol 2 p438 Building on this stance, Smith warned of God's wrath against abolitionists: “What could have been the design of the Almighty in this singular occurrence is not for me to say; but I can say, the curse is not yet taken off from the sons of Canaan, neither will be until it is affected by as great a power as caused it to come; and the people who interfere the least with the purposes of God in this matter, will come under the least condemnation before Him; and those who are determined to pursue a course, which shows an opposition, and a feverish restlessness against the decrees of the Lord, will learn, when perhaps it is too late for their own good, that God can do His own work, without the aid of those who are not dictated by His counsel.“ “The Prophet’s Views on Abolition”, History of the Church Vol 2 p. 438 So, Smith urged Mormons not to interfere with the way that slave masters treated slaves: “All men are to be taught to repent; but we have no right to interfere with slaves, contrary to the mind and will of their masters. In fact it would be much better, and more prudent, not to preach at all to slaves, until after their masters are converted, and then teach the masters to use them with kindness; remembering that they are accountable to God, and the servants are bound to serve their masters with singleness of heart, without murmuring.“ “The Prophet’s Views on Abolition”, History of the Church Vol 2 p. 440 Yes, then, you are honest when you point to the the fact that Brigham Young began the priesthood ban not Smith; and that Smith included freeing of slaves on his Presidential platform. But he was hardly an abolitionist as the word is traditionally used. You certainly would not find him urging Mormons to go to the underground railroad. And he did have prejudices common to his era as seen in his concern that if all slaves were freed they could "violate the most sacred principles of human society, chastity and virtue." A bigot on the line of Brigham Young and Bruce McConkie? No. Clearly not. It was clearly Young that set the horrible course with the ban and a culture which would allow people with McConkie's racial views to be revered. A hero of the abolitionist movement? No. Not by a long shot.

You didn't read the material I posted yesterday to you did you? Yes, the First Presidency did cite scripture as source of the policy. Read Bush and Mauss (Neither White Nor Black) for yourself please, I won't bother to repost what I already posted yesterday on another board (a 1949 and a 1969 statement by the First Presidency related to civil rights).

deerjerkydave "The body of the church welcomed the change with open arms and with much relief." - That's an overstatement. The reaction was mixed at best in many wards. Some members surly did welcome it with open arms. It would be false if I characterized the opposite as true, if I said "the body of the church fought the change with clenched fist" or something like that - this would be false, it would paint a negative stereotype and an untrue one. My father was attending an LDS Ward in Idaho at the time. So was my mother. They remember. And yes they were members and they welcomed the change. Not everyone did - many in their ward were very alarmed.

Sergio Lobato Apologists such as yourself will have an interesting time defending this utterly cruel and wicked policy. I see your plan is to compare apples to oranges in your defense of cruelty. Children of same-sex couples will not be able to join the Mormon Church until they turn 18 - and only if they move out of their parents’ homes, disavow all same-sex relationships and receive approval. And, Mormons in same-sex relationships will be considered apostates and ordered to undergo church disciplinary hearings that could lead to excommunication. The policy of whether women and men can be priests in certain churches is an apples to oranges comparison to that. Policies related to apostasy for various actions a person might commit or communion are still apples to oranges comparisons because in the LDS Church children of same sex couples are being withheld baptism based on the actions of their parents. Again - a child is being withheld baptism due to actions that the child did not do; and children are being pressured to disavow relationships of their parents. I don't know whether you may have too much hatred and bile in you to have compassion for children. It's hard to tell. But if you are capable of compassion imagine what this policy does in the lives of children of same sex couples if those children might (sadly for them) also believe that your church of is true? This is a policy that will cause severe pain and emotional distress to children. It is an utterly sick and evil action on the part of your church.

The Mormons intentionally try to keep it vague. It goes back to the LDS doctrine (referenced in the LDS Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price) that in the war in Mormon heaven between Jesus and Satan, one third of pre-mortal souls sided with Jesus, one third with Satan, and one third sided with neither. Those that sided with neither were cursed such that, while allowed to be born as human, they were given dark skin and were prevented from ever entering the Mormon highest heaven (Celestial Kingdom); the LDS priesthood is reserved for those that can enter the Celestial Kingdom, hence, the prohibition on blacks participating in the temple endowment ceremonies necessary for the priesthood. Most Mormons haven't been taught this and the church actively tries to whitewash this doctrine, often specifically being misled by their leaders, exactly as the guy in this video does, with statements like, "Gee, we don't really know why God set it up this way". The fact that they changed this doctrine EXACTLY when the church's tax exempt status was threatened (due to conflict with civil rights laws) is an amazing coincidence, lol

my dad served in a Mormonism mission in 1970, if they encounter a black person they were instructed to move on, it wasn't worth the trouble. my dad still a mormon but I left Mormonism at age 2 when I saw the masonic Mormon long johns in 1977. they were one piece with a butt flap. sick
