RE: marriage and the law of chastity, I was in a “low baptizing” mission and the one baptism I had, this was the main issue. They were living together but not married. We pressured her so hard to get married and they did. The issue… she was 18, impregnated by this man twice before her 18th birthday (they started dating when she was 15/16 and he was pushing 30). I pressured this poor child into marrying her abuser just so she could get baptized. This truly haunts me to this day and is one of my biggest regrets in life.

Yeah that’s a sad situation. If she doesn’t want to leave him what else could you do? I don’t think you should not feel guilt.

Amazing insight by Bentley at 24:24! “People have to believe before they understand”. Yes! Very similar to making the commitment to stay in the endowment session even though you don’t know what is coming. No take backs allowed in the conversion process or the temple ordinances.

Loved this episode!!! I 1000% think you did the actual church doctrine justice and showing how, although not ill intended by everyone, it raises serious concerns and also causes a negative impact on so many peoples lives that is rarely discussed. And how so often all of those really sincere, serious questions and concerns/ red flags were always just brought back to us as “we just need to have faith bc God is all knowing” and so that’s often the bottom line. Totally helps give perspective as to why members and “progressive members” or even ex-members do the things they do!

I served a mission in Utah- much of it in Davis county. And it (generally) really was a lovely experience! From talking to people who served out of the country I have gathered that i didn't have to deal with a lot of the harsh physical things of missions because I was serving in Utah.

I'm not exmormon, but I am exvangelical and have had my same frustrations with progressive Christianity. On one hand I am stoked about it, because overall it is less harmful, but PLEASE do not say that the fundamental pieces "are just not what the church teaches". THEY ARE, you just choose not to follow them. Which again, love that for you! But the church still believes and pushes those harmful ideologies.

Being raised in a mainstream Protestant church, Mormonism is way to hard too make it to heaven. In my faith, you literally are saved by faith alone. I think it would be hard for missionaries to convince some of us Protestant denominations to make salvation more difficult.

So if I read the book of mormon, and god tell me its not true. What would the response be?

That you didn't have "pure intent" or enough faith and that you should try again.

We would say that, or sometimes we would suggest that they have more to learn before they will be ready to hear the lord’s message, on this topic. We’d encourage them to still pray and counsel with the lord (if they weren’t already) and see if their life or feelings or overall mood would feel better, and then try again (basic brainwashing, ie get them use to expecting an ‘affirming response’ and eventually they may make their own… er um I mean feel the spirit)

Ok, why did I just make the connection that as soon as boys get the priesthood (at 11!), they never have a woman in charge of them at church again? Like, I knew it was after primary, but I dont think I'd made that connection explicitly before. I have 3 sons, and that is such a huge nope for me.

There are no more prophets because once the veil was torn, we no longer need a mediator but one Jesus Christ, God speaks to all of His Children, He is not a respector of person, so we dont need prophets.

The way that members try to gaslight you about the things the church teaches is the thing that upsets me more than anything at this point. I appreciate you getting heated about it 🩵
