Great video as always, I recently started the vanlife and I'm looking forward to incorporating your routines. Before the stretch I went for a walk to get coffee, hips were TIGHT from the drive yesterday, got a bit of pain in my right flexor after the stretch but it'll walk off, take it easier on that side before bed. Take care!

Awesome advice as usual, Coach! I'm actually a ball hockey goalie but I find that a lot of your vids are transferrable to us "land goalies". As an older goalie myself, is there anything you recommend specifically for "land" athletes that could benefit us ball hockey goalies?

Hi Pete - I don't have any specific suggestions for land goalies, it isn't something I study, but I do have quite a few ball hockey goalies in my training group and they tell me it really helps them too.

How often should I do off ice explosive training
@goalietraining2 жыл бұрын
That depends on your training background, your age, you level of play, whether you are in-season or off-season and which phase of training you are in. If you want to give me some more info, I can probably give you a better answer.

I do a regular stretching routine (5-10 min) most mornings - especially before a run (I am not the goalie, just the old goalie dad). I added these movements before my usually stretch and my stretches felt a lot better afterwards (not as tight as when I usually go through them). So I will add this before my normal routine - thank you. Next to get the actual goalie to add these...

Hello Coach!! I was doing this daily routine (I’m in 6 of 6 days and counting) and I remember I wanted to ask you “what’s the overall difference of holding a stretch for a longer time, say the pigeon pose, what would be the difference of holding it 30 seconds instead of 3x10 seconds?” Thank you!!
@goalietraining2 жыл бұрын
Based on a meta-analysis, 30s hold was found to be as effective as longer holds - typically I don't do short static holds without overload.

Such good presentation! Bravo! I grew up playing wing and am wanting to start playing goalie as a 35 year old in a beer league. I am, however terrified of the ratio of hip and groin injuries- and I’m not very flexible! What are your assessments of biggest risk factors for injuries and warning signs? Playing goalie would be the most fun, but I’ll settle with being a player if it means I will injure myself seriously other wise 😅.
@goalietraining2 жыл бұрын
The positions a goalie puts their hips in are not normal - hips are not designed to do that... but it is so much fun! If you can improve your hip internal rotation, that will take a lot of wear and tear off your hips and knees and then the other answer is... actually train to prepare your body to do what you are going to ask it to do on the ice. These movements are not normal. Go to the playlists here on my channel and save the "10 Secret Habits of Pro Goalies" playlist - - work through those mini workouts in order (do one every other day) and that will be a huge help.
