This video is awesome! I literally just ordered everything from Reptile Basics to do this to my racks. I'm excited to not have to keep filling water bottles!

Is there anywhere with a drawing of the rack build? Measurements of cuts, treated or untreated wood type of wood, and types of screws recommended really.

Thank you for this very detailed video that shows all the pieces names in shop. Thanks again. I just built a rack for my mice but I haven’t solved the water part out yet. Do you know if a side mounted nipple is a available or if it needs to be from the roof down?

Hello again, sorry for all the questions but I’ve thought of two more; forgive me if they’re already answered several times in the comments. 1. What length screws are you using to get through the 2x3 into the another 2x3 on the shelve tops ? I was thinking 3-1/2” but they would protrude if used for the slides. I figure you used both 3” and 3-1/2”? 2. About how long does a bucket of water last, providing no leaks occur?
@TheYoungerSemiOldMan3 жыл бұрын
I have an automatic waterer but my issue is that the bottom levels flood or are very wet by day 3. Is this the actual nipples or???? I've replaced them a few times and the same, the bottom nipples leak. Is it due to the gravity when they drink it just pours out? Whereas the top isn't as gravity driven? I'm so sick if it I'm about sell the whole rack that was $500 and build one that'll fit regular old rabbit water bottles.

Man cleaning those rat racks is such a mission I used to have racks what a pain in the ass lol. Tractor supply cow cubes was the cheapest food you can get for rats lmao.

Great video bro🙏. Question I’m working on building my own rack just wanna know if ASF have a problem reaching the water valve. Only asking because there a lot smaller than rats
@MorphMixologyReptiles6 жыл бұрын
I don't know honestly. We can't have ASF here so I've never tried.
@jaymiwelch42595 жыл бұрын
YEs ASF's will have a problem. We put a wood block below the water valve to give them the needed "boost" to reach it. Plus it gives them something to chew on.

I did basically the same. I put my front legs back 3" from the face of ea level, then cut the braces 4.5" short for ea tub. Then you can pull them out, without removing water even if they are deeper in tubs

Them clips are a pain in the ass. I use a fender washer, the drinking valve goes through the center of the washer connect the tubbing! Push it through the screen and your done.

@StrayedExplorer6 жыл бұрын
can anybody explain how the smaller rats reach to drink?
@MorphMixologyReptiles6 жыл бұрын
My understanding is they get everything they need from nursing on the mom until they are big enough to reach the food and water on their own. Aside from that, the front of the tubs are sloped so they can "climb" them to the water.

Nice rack couple of issues with it though. You over did it with the size of the wood you used. You could have made the entire rack out of 2×2 and 2×1 pieces of wood to frame it and it would be lighter and easier to move around. Also when you pull the bins out they hit the water nozzles. You need to take off maybe 4 inches off the front sliding part of the rail so the tub comes down and does not run into the nozzles as you remove the tub. Overall your rack is nice and strong.
