Omg, finally somebody made this video. There are way too many new player guides that assume you already have an avenger or a cutlass, or just tell you to immediately rent a better ship. I know it's mostly symptomatic of CIG still REALLY lacking gameplay consideration for the Aurora (and to a lesser extent the Mustang) but it's still insane that new player guides just ignore this...
@Psychobob4 жыл бұрын
That's probably because seeing actual players in an Aurora is incredibly rare.
@Whyyyyyy4 жыл бұрын
@@Psychobob Yeah, because there's nothing fun to do in an Aurora still. A huge chunk of players only have an Aurora MR. (Myself included, I backed during the Kickstarter). I follow religiously but play very little because... there's nothing to do... Combat is awful in the Aurora, the flight controls are clunky and it takes forever to get anywhere and then it glitches when you do get somewhere. The longest I've played ever was when FPS Mining and caves were added and I went cave mining, got lost in the cave despite my best efforts, cave felt completely infinite, and worse there was no way to chart my path through it other than clunky to use glowsticks (I do love the glowsticks, it's just absurd that they're as clunky to use as they are while being THE ONLY WAY to find your way out) and then eventually ended up in a crevice on the floor that was glitched such that it was impossible to pull myself out and I had to suicide. Again, I'm not really complaining about the overall state of the game, I love following development and I think overall CIG is doing amazing work. But man there are a couple base experience aspects that are just frustratingly unusable right now. Still can't zoom in on a planet in the in-game map without weird clipping and twitching, you can't see any details about the planet, it's just kind of a white blotchy sphere that keeps clipping for the most part, and you can't select a coordinate on it and set a quantum jump point.
@gedrot24864 жыл бұрын
@@Whyyyyyy Was among the first 10k people that got to play the game (with an LN), let me tell you the Aurora wasn't always this bad. The Auroras got intentionally worsened over time, you bought the lesser ship after all and it should not be able to compete so easily with more expensive ones. Please remember that this game is decidedly NOT going to be pay2win! (post release and also please remember you can't "win" Star Citizen *winking smiley* ) CIG made a move to make ships tiered stat-sheets with dedicated roles and functions you can level up, instead of making them customizable to a degree that you could consider them characters of their own. The Aurora got shafted with that decision, the community lost interest in the ship and so did CIG. My LN used to be a space IL2, now it's a paper plane with a bullseye painted on it and the "rework" was CIGs most lazy attempt in updating an old design. Not only is it laughably similar, to the point of being basically a copy, it also fixed old clipping issues by introducing new ones, that's how little care got put into it, very disappointing imo.

thats because RSI want you to spend money! I only have the Aurora and never upgraded... It takes some time building up finances in the game and learning to fly and to operate stupid elevators in the game. I agree with you - I think as a newbie you should learn the game / the verse with just one ship and stop testing other things. Learn to fly, to fight, to transport, and then upgrade step by step.

@@Blankstate Be that as it may, because this is a video game attempting to simulate what being in space would look like as though it were real, the capturing of this footage was done by an in-game equivalent of a camera. I say this because Star Citizen gives us this versatile 3rd person view that can be moved around in real time. Furthermore, because you can adjust the focus of images in this view as though it had a real lens apparatus converging light rays onto an image sensor, I would say that we should treat it as though this is real footage captured with the in-game equivalent of professional camera equipment. In the future, I would not be surprised if we were given more controls to make it a more realistic experience, especially when the Reliant Mako becomes fully functional. Therefore, this should qualify as cinematography, not videography.

One key consideration when choosing your starter pack: the Mustang is valued at $5 more than the Aurora, but both packages cost the same amount. When it's time to upgrade, you're basically throwing away $5 by starting with the Aurora. My recommendation if you prefer the Aurora is to start with the Mustang Alpha package and upgrade to the Aurora LN.
@cdgonepotatoes42194 жыл бұрын

@League of Championship Kulture But how can you like "how something looks" when two things look the same except one has one extra thing? That doesn't make any sense. "nerding out about other ppl decisions" is the exact definition of asking for help. If you don't want other people to comment on your decision, then don't ask said people what decision to take. Not rocket science. What's the issue, the "looks" of having paid 5$ store credit instead of having 5 less bucks in your bank account? Then give those 5 bucks to Wikipedia to ensure it is a blank operation on your side. If I was talking to you IRL, refusing 5$ store credit for "how it looks" sounds exactly like some miserable people who missed on a deal and thinks other people should not get it to be "fair"... So state your REAL reason because the one you publicly give is either complete non-sense, or a fake one. In both case, trying to debunk your logic is a waste of time for everybody.

It's also worth noting that if you are browsing the Erkul DPScalculator you can see the shop location of the items currently fitted by clicking the little shopping basket icon and it gives you a price and all the shop locations, it helped me out when i started using it! Fly Safe!
@thejopp4 жыл бұрын
The starters have one huge edge. They will make you invisible. When NPC's are added to the game proper they will fill any location with plenty of small ships which means the most common ships will be the most visible. And if you are a customs inspector, will you stop that Star Runner for inspection or will you sift through the 50 Aurora's with cargo boxes in the local area...
@mightylink654 жыл бұрын
Now that s1 gimbals are finally sold in shops you can most certainly do more with starter ships. The Mustang can make a pretty good bounty hunting ship with the same hardpoints as the Arrow and the Aurora can do a lot more types of missions like recovering stolen cargo with the 4 gimbaled weapons in combat.

"lower tier are more efficient and ideal for frequent longer distance travel..."....I would tend to disagree, actually. If you're in a lancer, and max for instance, most of your time is going to be on cargo runs. Having the fastest QT drive available not only lets you cut through the system faster and lets you return to the game faster, you also have a better chance of beating 30k bugs and not losing your cargo. Also, most of the trading posts can refuel at the pads, so efficiency is not a concern for me.
@420247paul4 жыл бұрын
depends on the size of your gas tank
@johnboyd97134 жыл бұрын
@@420247paul In this vein, the Banu Defender is technically the fastest ship in the game. it has more than 4x the QF tank of most small ships, or about 2500 (more on that later). In addition, despite being mostly medium, it uses s1 quantum drives, meaning it has access to the fastest quantum drives in the game while also having the fuel capacity to actually make the longest jumps possible in the game multiple times without refueling. A Defender can make 97% lightspeed and keep jumping without refueling. HOWEVER, the acceleration is awful and you barely reach top speed making the longest jump in Stanton despite being a bit faster than s2 quantum drives on paper. This is funny because a s1 quantum drive is only good over incredibly long ranges where their terrible acceleration (especially stage 2 acceleration) but only hte Banu Defender theoretically has enough fuel to use an s1 drive in this way. Aside from Defender, Pisces and 100 series both have ~800 capacity QF tanks, about 40% more than the standard small ship capacity (which i think is around 533). I still tend to stick to the Atlas or Voyage, simply cause I got used to refueling being picky and unreliable in 3.9 and don't trust that I will always be able to refuel. Larger drives are slower matching say a military A tier S2 to a military A tier s1, and they consume more fuel. BUT THEY CARRY WAY MORE FUEL in relation to their consumption and have better acceleration. All medium ships can easily fit and fly a crossfield or Yeager quantum drive and make the longest jumps in Stanton. In terms of alpha, an average small ship with a Voyage (the "fastest" qt drive that can make it from PO to Microtech without refueling) takes *6:30* to make that jump. The Defender takes *5:30*, and barely reaches top speed before having to decelerate. A medium ship with an s2 XL-1 QT drive only take *4:30* due to being at top speed longer. At the scale of the alpha (just the Stanton System), the Yeager, Crossfield, and XL-1 are the best quantum drives. As an interesting trivia bit, even with the biggest quantum tank (the carrack) with the most efficient s3 qunatum drive(the agni), the carrack wouldn't even make it halfway to Neptune before running out of fuel. So that is how small the Stanton system is by scale.
@mileshardeem23753 жыл бұрын
Fuel costs and general maintenance is nearly negligible, even now (full year after your comment). Design intent is that fuel and basic maintenance costs more than it does currently. Any time you go smaller you go way lower on all forms of maintenance and fuel. But unless you want to go really slow the small fuel tank lowers your effective range.

@Cliven Longsight Your critique is justified, but goes for many ships. I have a Cutlass, an Avenger Stalker, and a 315p. The 315p, is the only one in my hangar with a toilet, and places to keep food. They could essentially solve the toilet issue by making a plaque somewhere indicating the fold out toilet's location. We don't need actual poo gameplay, but the indication that there is a toilet makes our ship more believable. When it comes to the two doors of the Aurora., I think you are meant to be able to dock them to a docking tube, and then you have a door to the other vessel and one outside, or you might chain-dock a load of Aurora's to each other

This is a fantastic guide for new players, but also veterans! Fantastic quality too as always! New players undecided between the two should definitely also take that into consideration. If you have aspirations of one day owning a Carrack, you may do well to go with the Aurora as it will still be useful even when you've amassed all those millions of credits and purchased a Carrack.

The quality of your videos are just AMAZING! Do you know if the blackout bug has been fixed on the Avenger Titan? When I last had it, if you even thought about maneuvering that thing, it would cause your pilot to blackout. I love the design but obviously this bug forced me to get rid of the ship.

The Aurora LN used to be my favorite back when small ships were overpowered but now I really like the CL because it starts with almost best in slot equipment. Bulwarks, Hydrocel, and a Roughneck power plant are almost top of the line for what can be fit into that tiny little ship. You won't be doing any bounties with it because everything you fight is an Aegis Sabre, but it will deliver packages like nobody's business.

You probably should have added that in order to configure your ship it needs to be stored (that you did) but also YOU need to be in that port where the ship is stored. Never called up ships can be configured from anywhere until you call them up for the first time.

Recently downloaded the game again and found some great new weapons for my Alpha. My goal is to upgrade to a Beta - but that seems a more crazy task.
