Could call the road trip 'Goodbye Morepork Pie', for a bit of double entendre. (For the non Kiwis here a Morepork is New Zealand's small native owl.) Great channel, thanks for sharing.

There's a site on youtube called Jonathan W, who is doing up a 1951 Studebaker wit pretty bad floor, trunk, and rocker panal rust through. You might want to watch him make new floor panels. The guy is a wizard at making these without special tools. He says in the video "I'm almost too embarrassed to show how I do this, 'cause everbody already knows how."
@Badgertronix5 жыл бұрын
I shall check him out. I can definitely say that I don't know already know! Cheers

@@Badgertronix - Yeah, that's why I quoted him. After you do dozens of floor panels and rocker panels, you too can say to someone who is gushing over your work "Nothing to it, really. It's about as tough as falling off a log."

I would try to get a 5 speed gearbox. Plenty of options available. That extra gear makes a huge difference on modern roads. I am sure nobody will notice, but you will. It really turns the car into a daily driver. My wife has driven hers everyday for 35 years. Her first and only car.
@Badgertronix5 жыл бұрын
Gearbox can be substituted as long as it uses the existing mounting points. I will keep an eye out for options. Thanks

1000km no problem for a moggy, here in england there was a run done every year for about 10 years where they did John O Groats to Lands End which is 1400km and that had to be done in 24 hours. Cars used to manage it no problem.

Hopefully there won't be too many issues but it will be a good test of my handiwork. There are a few mountain passes to get through which will be a big test on performance and brakes especially!

If you can get black and white you could make a light grey - if you can make light grey you can add some green or blue and get a muted colour that it would have been - isn't this possible?

Nice update. You'll have a couple of main types of viewer: Those who just like to see a nice transformation of a classic car, and those who are doing, or have done, a similar restoration. I'm in the latter group. In that group will be the pros who have done it all before and those who are literally learning from your experience. Again, I'm in the latter. From my perspective, I'll be watching for details of how you approach rust and mechanical repairs, welding and painting (if you're painting it yourself), including some of the finer details like compressor and welder setups. I'll be using and/or adapting your methods so my moggie project will be at least as good as yours:-) Cheers mate! Oh, and how about a yellow in keeping with the Good bye Pork Pie theme:-)
@Badgertronix5 жыл бұрын
It's hard to please everyone but I think you've got some good ideas there. There will be some very detailed videos and some technical ones going over equipment and processes. Then some of those get repetitive so I may need to do some broader videos as well to cover progress quicker. I don't think I could paint it yellow, it would remind me of my mum's old Renault 4 :) Good luck with your restoration!
@TheThomasdahl5 жыл бұрын
Our Moggie, same color as yours, has original drum brakes and we drive in Germany. They are OK... But I would add a brake vacuum booster. Get an old one and nobody will notice, but you will stop with confidence!

Good to see you are still on it, only just seen the previous episode. Now I am also NOT a professional, just an enthusist who has done this sort of repairs before and I can offer advice on stuff that has worked for me, It may not be 100% correct but it keeps the car on the road, the last morris I built was for my daughter so obviously safety was my main priority.Are you able to buy sheet metal? because a lot of the repairs needed can be cut out of flat steel thus avoiding the need to buy repair panels, everything is available but it all costs money. Now I dont want to write chapter and verse on here and bore the arse off a casual reader, but if I can help in any way please send me an pm address that I can reply to. Regards.
@Badgertronix5 жыл бұрын
Awesome, thanks for the advice. Sheet metal is easy to get and I have a friend of a friend who works at a sheetmetal place who has offered to assist with folding metal. I don't want to skimp on quality, but I don't want to spend the earth on buying bits I could make. Always great to hear from people who have restored one of these before. badgertronix@gmail.com Cheers

Dang Badger sounds like you live in a Socialist country like my buddy Steve. We don't have pork pie but here in the great Garden State we do have pork roll. Wait pork pie is the name the car? Sorry we don't have any pork pie or pork roll cars here. Your car without it's doors on looks like pork pie at the end of the movie, just don't set your car on fire when you're finished.

Supercheap would put Halfords out of business pretty quick if they ever came to the UK. It's silly you have to get disc breaks certified to the tune of $1000. Really an MOT tester could certify them safe. Certainly 3rd rate disc brakes are safer than all drum brakes. Looking forward to the road trip mate. 😎
@Badgertronix5 жыл бұрын
I haven't been in Halfords for over a decade. I remember them being decent enough but nowhere near the range of Supercheap. The certifying authority share some photos of what people have tried to pass. You would be amazed at some of the great work! Brake hoses acting as suspension limiters, dodgy seat belt mounts etc. It shoulf be a great roadtrip 😁 cheers mate

Good Bye Pork Pie! Shirl... Get the best air compressor you can afford - you can never have enough air. I am sure that Super Cheap will do a cheap pot blaster like those at Harbor Freight, very messy, but a hundred times better than your current siphon fed gun. Good luck with the resto.
