It was a nice change to hear Moz and his band in a live setting. Idk why he never gave this a proper studio recording because it would've made a good B-side or something. It's a Morrissey track all over. It's very in his wheelhouse. It's hilarious how he goes from having a good head on his shoulders to nearly pulling out his hair because this person doesn't understand he's theirs! No chit-chat needed!
Thanks for watching!

cahuenga is in california, him and janice long were great friends going back to the very start of the smiths, always liked this song and your right a studio version would have made a nice addition to his catalogue.

Janice Long and John Peel were partners-in-crime on radio and TV during the mid-80s. Peel's late evening show on BBC Radio 1 directly followed Long's, and they often bantered on-air. They also often teamed-up to present Top Of The Pops. As mentioned elsewhere, Long and Morrissey had a lengthy association stretching back to the start of The Smiths. I remember her interviewing him in the mid-80s on more than one occasion, also in 2002 on her Radio 2 show. Incidentally, next Friday (25th Oct) will mark the 20th anniversary of John Peel's passing - it seems just like yesterday.

Love this song. In the best Morrissey tradition, funny and moving. A real shame it never made it to an official release.

The lyrics on this are very witty indeed. I think he was going for a similar effect as when he wrote ‘striptease with a difference’, but with a bit more emotion. It makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time. I wouldn’t agree with the requited theory. I don’t think it’s unrequited either. I think this person just hasn’t realised he even likes them, or what he’s after. Case in point: ‘Has it not twigged with you yet?’ ‘Do I have to, drop anchor like a sailor, to switch on the bulb in your head?’ The ‘don’t wonder why I’m standing over here’ line is the most relatable, when you’d love to do something but you just can’t ask.
