The ending in this version is a stroke of genius. As each sound recedes backstage, silence looms larger and larger on the audience, and when the last chord is gone, we burn hard with longing. There is a light that never goes out indeed.

@aisthpaoitht7 жыл бұрын
What double meaning?
@1875HIBEESFC7 жыл бұрын
gumbo Take me out can mean 'take me out on a date' but it can also mean 'kill me'. In the chorus, he sings that if they were to be killed by a bus or truck, their deaths would be much better if the person he's singing about was there to die with him

I saw this tonight & it brought back memories of my beautiful younger brother Stevie. He & I loved this kind of music & he would get so excited to share new music with me. We would get together & go for drives, listening to awesome music. He got sick with AIDS in the late 1980s & had to come home. I took care of him until he took his last breath on this earth. He was only 23 years old. Listening to this again was beautiful….I cried when I heard these lyrics again… “To die by your side Is such a heavenly way to die… There is a light and it never goes out” I love & miss you Stevie, your light never goes out…
