Well if you never joined House Redoran you probably should, putting the imperial cult of all things at A and Redoran at D is extremely suprising lol. House Redoran values dunmeri belief and culture so is therefore very close with the Temple, questlines consist of trying to help out those in need and aren’t actually selfish like Hlaalu or Telvanni.

Redoran has the best story, I think, especially if you're using the LGNPC mod (which I pretty much consider part of the base game at this point). It also has the most populated stronghold with the best variety of services. Unfortunately it has the worst perks in every other respect (which is in part a product of its story, which is that it's fallen on hard times and needs an honorable Nerevarine to guide it out). Athyn Sarethi is my favorite of all the House councilors, and killing that shithead Venim in a duel is always satisfying. He's a good heel for the questline. They're actually A tier for me. Hlaalu pays well, and its stronghold is in the best location by far. It's kind of generic in every other respect, though. I'm actually going with C-tier for them, though I'm sure it breaks poor Crassius's heart. Telvanni is so cool, and its structure and culture so unique, that I can forgive them for the fact that its stronghold is low-key kinda buttcheeks. (Fewer services, in the middle of nowhere, and like all Telvanni towers a little hard to get around). S-tier for sure. The Imperial Legion starts off (probably deliberately) by giving you a really bad first impression with that Widow Vabdas quest. Like, really, Darius? I mean, sure, he backs off once you show him proof that her husband was murdered, but that's pretty much a bare minimum obligation. Still, the quest rewards (especially at higher ranks) are great. And I consider the Masque of Clavicus Vile to be a de facto Legion quest reward, too. A+/S-. The Mage's Guild's early quests in Balmora are the most boringest in the game. One thing Morrowind does is it will emphasize lore over gameplay sometimes - because, fair play, an initiate's first jobs in a guild of mages probably WOULD be lame shit like "go gather some flowers." I do like how Archmage Trebonius is clearly like a total Peter Principle dude who's been promoted beyond his actual competence. He was so good at the magic part of magic that the Guild didn't consider that he was just an absolute dumbass administrator. Anyway, it's like House Telvanni, but not as fun. High-B tier. The Morag Tong asks the crucial question "What if the Dark Brotherhood were a bit less cringe?" Answer: They'd be an awesome faction. S+. The Thieves Guild is one I've seldom played - I don't usually play thieves. But I've played through it enough to know that their quests and rewards are everything you'd want from that kinda guild. Good loot, fun secrets, a "guild within the guild" in the Bal Molagmer. Not usually how I roll, but they roll well. A+. The Tribunal Temple shoots its wad early, I think. The Pilgrimages of the Seven Graces are cool, especially the one where you've gotta drown yourself and talk to a Daedra who just hates his fuckin' job. And I suppose getting the Ebony Mail at the end is a nice prize. But few of the other quests have that kind of pizzazz. High-C/Low-B tier. I have been playing Morrowind for 20 years and I don't know if I've ever completed the Imperial Cult quests. INCOMPLETE tier. The East Empire Company lets me be mayor of my own town. Clear S-tier. I don't consider the Ashlanders or Twin Lamps to be true, joinable factions. For the record, the Ashlander tribes are ranked Urshilaku -> Zainab -> Erabenimsun -> Ahemmusa. You wouldn't think the Erabenimsun would be ahead of anyone, but remember that the Ahemmusa wise woman punished her apprentice by sending her to a dangerous tomb because she didn't treat an escaped slave racistly enough. I also don't really trust anybody who considers a shrine to Sheogorath to be a "safe place." It's debatable whether any of the vampire clans count as real factions, but I just want to get it out there that vampirism in Morrowind sucks ass. F-tier.

I actually consider it a bonus that the Telvanni stronghold is in the middle of nowhere. Bethesda chose to make it inconvenient for the player in order for it to match lore. Telvanni are supposed to be reclusive, they wouldn't WANT their strongholds to be easily visitable by every Tom, Dick, and Harry to come by. Furthermore, it's a guild for mages, clearly they expect you to be able to teleport. The location of the stronghold is super on message for the Telvanni, I love it.

The depth of the lore is unbelievable. In my opinion, Morrowind has been the only game I've played that created a believable reality, with it's own cultural/political/societal conflicts and issues. It really feel like you aren't in Kansas anymore.

My subjective opinions: Hlaalu: is fine. Quests are ok. Loot is mostly gold. The boss is a tool. C Redoran: you're generally helping people in redoran, but the house... isn't. It feels like they use you to look good. Also they only pay in exposure, which is not cool. D Telvanni: mostly narcissistic slavers, which is bad but you can't tell me it's boring. Best loot in the game by far. S Guilds: I've only ever finished the mage's guild. They're all really handy to be a part of, though. B for mage, C for the others. I admit ignorance, though. Morag tong: some cool quests, some really rote ones. Good loot at the end. Interesting vibe. B Twin Lamps: very cool to have joinable abolitionists. I want to like them but they've got basically no loot and almost no quests. C Cult: best loot behind telvanni. Mix of rote and epic quests. A Legion: boring. Only good loot does not require joining. D Temple: fairly cool vibes, unique quests, takes a while to get through though. The four corners is dope, though you can technically complete it without membership if you know how. A

You totally should, if you haven't already. The last bit of the main quest is brilliant and surprisingly non-linear. !! VAGUE NON-SPOILERY EXPLANATION BELOW !! At one point, You are told to assault the strongholds of your enemies, elimimate their generals, and gather tools that you will need in the ultimate battle. It gives you this feeling of: "You are the first person to walk this path. No one can guide you anymore. You know what you have to do. Go save the world." There are so few games that are brave enough to avoid hand holding, Let alone saying "You on your own".

When I first played morrowind the thing that amazed me the most about the whole game was the shrines that really provide blessings and healing. Obviously, these would-be gods are interested in helping their worshipers. Then the quests for the temple clearly tell the same story. In a game where getting rich is ridiculously easy and the path to divine power is clear, what kind of god will you become? Telvanni Magister! (and the ending of the words is Abrahadabra mother-trucker!) 🤣

house rendoran is the protector of Morrowind, it protected at the first council, it protected at red mountain when the argonians invaded, it protected when skyrim attacked, and it protected the portals of Oblivion, if it wasn't for the rendoran no one would be alive, you know people, join the great rendoran house, the hlaalu and telvanni ceased to exist as a house in the future.

House Telvanni still exist in fourth era, an is still one of the 5 house in the Council of Great Houses of dunmer... in theory Hlaalu too still exist as some sort of minor noble house, but yes, they lose strength, wealth and, most important, political influence, and they were sent out of the Council. But i understand what you mean: of the old 5 Great houses, 1 lose the status, 3 are weaker, and Redoran only grew up

Even tho I gravitate to House Telvanni and the Mages Guild, once I hear from Vivec that he basically wants to retire I pivot and join the Tribunal Temple to RP as laying the foundations for the Dissident Priests to reform that institution in a few years. In my current playthrough, I'm also continuing the war of the Morag Tong against the cultists of Mehrunes Dagon for supporting the fingerpainters ... I mean Dark Brotherhood. Just because the concept of the 4 corners of the House of Troubles will be affirmed doesn't mean they get to pollute Morrowind with their sniveling cultists.

When I finished the morang tong I dueled the previous leader figuring I would never find the entire set and be able to turn the quest in to him. love the concept behind the Morag tong, its just one of those things where if murder was just a fine you could just pay someone to kill someone give them 1000 on top of that and you're pretty much justified, a writ is just a receipt that shows you've already paid the fine it's pretty much you going up to someone in power and saying "hey here's 1000 septims my guy is gonna go kill someone now, can I get a receipt as well that would be great".

@@leonblep np also tip for skyrim collect flowers and butterfly wings. if you mix blue mountain flowers and blue butterfly wings you get a potion that is worth like 80 gold so its a good way to make money if you mix the flower with normal butterfly wings you get a health potion. also got you 2 subs asked some people i know to sub since you seem cool

I find the Imperial Legion generally more annoying to join than not since if you try to talk to a guard without wearing specific sets of armor, they act like dicks to you. Also there's technically 3 joinable factions you missed in vanilla Morrowind; the vampire clans. Though I can understand why those would be missed. Vampires only show up in really specific ruins and ancestral tombs and which one you're infected by decides which clan you join.

@@willroth7521 Join vampires? All you have to do is get infected in combat with one. Though what region the vampire spawned in determines which clan you join. Like if you find vampires in the Sheogorad region, you'll wind up as clan Aundae but if a vampire from closer to the Ashlands/Grazelands regions infects you, you join Berne if I recall correctly. Mostly they appear in ancestral tombs but some spawn in specific caves and ruins.

most of them! you can only join one "great house" at a time though, so you can only choose between Redoran, Hlaalu or Telvanni. other than that, you have the freedom to join all the factions! but vampire clans are the same-- there are three, and you can only join the clan whose vampires turned you.

Fighters guild and mages guild and Ashlanders are the best for me. Get shit done under the rules that are reasonable to me. As for ashlanders I just like how resilient and strong they are. And although they are very hostile to outlanders they can be very reasonable if you honor their traiditions and manners.

I have just joined the imperial cult because they were the first guys I found. playing an argonian for my first go, and I'm thinking I'll stick with them or end up in the thieves guild/morag tong if those are possible. I don't really know how morrowind factions work...

basically you can join all of them! EXCEPT when you go to join one of the 3 great houses (house hlaalu, telvanni, or redoran) you can only join one. thieves guild and morag tong are sooo much fun!

Also do you mean that you can join any group presented independant of one another or can't you sign in all of them when you belong to a specific house. Reading your comment could indicate that you cant join all of them when you already are in one of the houses. Also could you tell me how they affect each other. E.g can you get to the highest position in all of the fractions or is it a "If you are here, you cant be there" decision?

@@leonblep Oh noes, actually you did good if you were talking only about the factions which are in the vanilla version, because East Empire Co requires Bloodmoon addon so that the player could join that faction, and the vampire cIans too. In the vanilla version it's not possible to join them.

TELVANNI: Mages guild, Except everyone is toying with immortality, up until you kill them to take their position. Keep what you kill. The Ashlanders are the worst faction, by miles, since you can only progress to the second level. The Blades are mandatory, I'm not really sure how you rank something like that. The Twin Lamps could have been so much more, I think. The Temple is cool because before you can do anything, you need to complete the Pilgrim's Path. The Imperial cult is also really good. The ending path in the thieves guild is also really wholesome. But the East Empire company, that's some really interesting stuff too, you should try it.

I want to like the Mages Guild, but the Mages Guild really, REALLY want me to hate the Mages Guild. Oh, you accidentally clicked on a bed in the Mages Guild, thinking you could sleep in it since "waiting here is illegal" on the wait menu seemed *illegal* or at least bad manners? Well, you had better hope it wasn't OWNED by someone. Because then you're expelled until you go talk to the (IDIOT) Arch Mage in Vivec to begin the "make amends" task. You better go see him as soon as possible because it's a slow proces- Oh you want to use a Guild Guide to travel there, like any wanted criminal who has never been a Mages Guild member? Oh no. No. You're currently EXPELLED. You go find a boat or silt strider, you PROFILGATE, you HERETICAL GOLDILOCKS, get out, get out of our sight! Then you drag your ass there and you have the choice of talking and to CLOWN SUPREME, ARCHMAGE, coming back in 10 days time to talk again, then repeating that twice more (30 days) or staying in the Vivec MG, talking to the robed goon, WAITING 24 hours, talking again, and repeating that 9 times more (10 days). While all services that are freely offered to a serial killer of mage guild members who'd never joined the guild are withdrawn. I was tired, I clicked the wrong bed and didn't have a recent save. You meet nicer people in the guilds for hired thugs, mercantile murderers, ancap magical Darwinism levitation-potion-lobby movement or kleptomania club than the guild. When they're nice, they're high tier. When the mask is off, I wouldn't wish them on even Molag Bal. Membership is a trap. 0/10 Airbnb.

Nice tier list, gotta disagree with some of the choices though Mages guild are the boring magical syndicate whose whole thing is incompetent powerless mages pretending to be of note while trying to tax anyone who wants to actually develop and evolve the magical arts Hlaalu are endorsed by V*vec 🤢🤢🤢, get completely fucked by the 4th era, use alot of underhanded tactics and are willing to do alot of scumbag shit while hiding behind the thin veil of supporting multiculturalism, while doing nothing to stop drug trafficking, body packing and slave trade in their territory Redoran are the one dunmer house that gets shit done and keeps everyone in order and has essentially been the main driving force behind the rebuilding of dunmer society after the red year, they also rebuild on the ruins of raven rock, speaking of which, where is my lovely east empire company ? Finally fighter's guild and thieves guild cross to make one of the most interesting story lines in the game, along with being most player's first questing experience Most of this isn't criticism of the writing per se, most factions being overall pretty divisive is what makes them interesting and cool, just personal gripes with them, my favourite faction is telvanni just because you get to embrace the ridiculous abilities magic has to offer like a ring that renders you completely immune to all spells or randomly getting a bunch of waifus without having to do anything when you grow your stronghold, whereas every other great house requires recruiting people to your fort but instead you spend your time building mechs for your house lol

@@leonblep I shoulda said home, I guess. Bal Isra is the outpost you get in the Redoran plotline, and imho the best home for storage, cool looks and some basic merchants. I put lanterns all over the outside, looks great. Plotline is a janky mix of easy and hard/WHY!? missions, but fun.

@@leonblep Bal Isra has the same architecture as Ald Ruhn, and some fun upgrade missions. Like at one point you need to find women to come out there so the men can find wives. I think finishing those brings the merchants, and another mission builds the tower. And if memory serves, in the Telvani plotline, you are asked to attack Bal Isra, (fully upgraded I think) and so you can claim it as your own after that. Does Hlallu attack Bal Isra as well, I don't recall. The Telvani house looks so cool, but it's cramped inside and has very little storage, so my Telvani master took Bal Isra as his own. Downside is location, it's kinda middle of nowhere, so using coc command is pretty standard... I roleplay that my character is frustrated at the fact that even custom made mark/recall spells only work on one spot, so he's made his own spells to teleport around. My rule is I can't coc to someplace I've not been to yet.

Redoran is the best, traditional, noble, protectors, straightforward. Hllalu are cutthroats and telvani are crazy. Of the rest I did only fighters and imperial legion fully so can't comment on other. Also it depends on what kind of character you play, I focused on strength and melee skills. Why would I care to make potions and create spells while being squishy for half of the game and being encumbered all the time? I just grab an axe and crush everything while not caring about avoiding hits, works wonderfully. Will revisit this game as I feel that I haven't played around enough with bunch of it's mechanics. Being a magician definitely makes you more powerful in the end but beginning is more challenging and you have to do a lot of stuff to increase all those magic skills while being a melee character only takes improving: axes, long blades and heavy Armour.
