As promised here is our second news of the day, we have a new expansion for Mortal Kombat 1 dubbed Khaos Reigns! New story mode, gameplay(hey animalities) and new characters, lots to like here so lets go through everything that we learned. There's still very likely even more stuff out there that is not yet announced, but I guess we have to wait longer for our release date on September 24th for that. im being mean to the people who are ignorant about it cause im all the way done with the argument. "wasted slots" "why can't it be xyz" MK1 went out of its way to make sure there was many returning characters that haven't been around forever and people acted like they did nothing. I am in every fighting game community and I can say easily that NRS fans are the most ungrateful group out there. Never happy, always complaining. Done being nice to those people. I don't love every DLC choice either, but I understand that there is people who will, so I let them live their life instead of crying about it.

Compare MK to other popular fighters and you can see that MK relies so much more on the guests compared to other fighters to the point where it just doesn't feel as cool and exciting as it did before

I understand why fighting games are adding guest characters, but I can also understand people complaining about them. Obviously they're going to sell more and likely bring in more players, but I think veteran players who've been playing a series for years could feel underappreciated when the devs focus more on getting new players. Logically, the devs' decisions make sense, but those decisions aren't always what the most dedicated fans want. I think there's a bit more nuance to the issue since "it sells" is the same reason cosmetics and DLC continue to increase in prices. It's the reason there's no pack for Street Fighter 6 costumes. Capcom knows that people will purchase them anyways. If they just had the core characters from Mortal Kombat and filled the rest of the roster and all DLC with guest characters, how would that sell? I legitimately think it might still sell really well. Fortnite has a ridiculous amount of "guest costumes", which has led to the game feeling like a jumbled mess that doesn't have a coherent art style. Obviously it's still popular, but long time players have expressed their displeasure with what it has become.

Fortnite is a great example because that's what the people who defend this stuff want from fighting games, they just want it to be Fortnite so they can come back every few months and play their favourite pop culture nostalgia trip for 40 minutes before dipping. I'm not fully against guest characters but stuff like MK11 and 1 are just ridiculous with it, and the latter putting actual MK characters in assist slots instead is just the final kick in the teeth.

I think guest characters can be a lot of fun, and actually wish they could bring back guests from previous games in addition to new ones. Jason vs Ghostface; Arnold's Terminator vs the T-1000; Rambo vs Conan would be cool. That said, I wish we could get more characters from the 3d era. I loved Hotaru's character design SO much. He could have ties to old Deception buddies Darrius and Havik.

My problem with guess character is there's so too many in Mk1 already and specifically this particular pack has archetypes that are already in the game. Knife wielding guy- Smoke Big guy with Big weapon- Shao Kahn Guy with blade hands- Baraka Now admittedly the T-1000 gameplay can be vastly different than Baraka and also the other guest character too, but it just feels too repetitive on its surface. With that in mind, I'm intrigued by the potential T-1000 gameplay-I'm hoping for a Glacius-style puddle punch-and curious about how a game known for character fatalities will handle a liquid metal man who can reformulate from all damage besides "liquid hot magma" -Dr. Evil

Since MK is a video game itself, I believe people will be more hype to see another video game character appear as a guest. Imagine the horsemens in Darksiders game, all 4 of them - War, Death, Fury, and Strife appear as guest in MK ala TMNT in Injustice 2...that will be epic as hell. Heck, maybe some anime characters will be cool too. Example Gojo or Sukuna from Jujutsu Kaisen, Guts from Berserk, or Denji from Chainsaw Man. Imagine how hype if this crossover happen. It will break the internet. If Namco Bandai can make a deal with western company to get Star Wars characters and Negan in their game, then WB should be able to strike a deal with eastern company too.
