Mortal Kombat 1 - How To Restore ‘Havik’ In The New Era - Rise And Downfall?

Welcome back to another Mortal Kombat video!
today with you all having really enjoyed that Shao video, talking his the rise and fall in the new era, today I though that we could do that with yet another beloved character today, one incredible near and dear to me as he Is my favourite character from the 3d trilogy, the cleric of chaos and now titan of anarchy, Havik!
Now Haviks Is a very peculiar character in the MK mythos, as he originally derives from that of the chaos realm, something Introduced into that of the 3D trilogy of games, a byproduct of such a change, having formed from the chaos realm Itself, he was part of the ever expansive design philosophy, showing that their was way more to it all beyond what we had ever seen, but with that said and noted, how does he fair In the of the new era?

Titan Havik is the original Cleric of Chaos from the previous timeline, who won against Kronika. MK 1 Havik is Dairou who uses the name Havik. It might have to do with Liu Kang trying to neutralize all threats to his New Era. Maybe that's why there is no Chaosrealm, and thus no Cleric of Chaos. But some events are still meant to happen in every timeline. Liu Kang also didn't forsee the creation of Ermac, but he was glad that it happened (as stated in an intro). A Havik emerging is also meant to happen. The original Havik is now set up as the main threat for either a DLC or new game, and that's going to be very interesting how and if he will interact with New Era Havik.

I actually really like the idea of havik being from order realm and slowly turning it to chaos realm and on top of that in intros he wants to turn other realms into another chaos realm

He doesn't say "he wants freedom" as a response to everything at all. The core of why he's trying to topple Seido's government is freedom and he talks about it when he's asked about his goal because that is his ultimate goal. He does not say it as a response to everything anyone says to him, you have not played or seen anything on the game if that's what you think. Yes just completely ignore everything else about his character.

I always liked alot of the 3d era characters from 4 to deception. I did like Dairou in both design and gameplay but he was mostly non existant, and didn't like he and Havik were one character.

Havik never really "Fell" mk1 havik is just a different interpretation of the character, literally in the same game we have bi-han being scorpion and he didn't "Fall", and besides we all know this isn't gonna stick havik will return to being havik and not dairou taking on the name

I feel many fans don't understand that MK1 mostly tells backstories, and that it's okay to see our characters backstories. If someone was disabled or mutilated in the old timelines, we get to see how it happens this time. Instead of dumping characters on us in the middle of their story, we get to see how they started. And I would like if fans didn't start shaking, crying and pissing themselves because their favs aren't as cool now as they were back then.

The problem is that the backstory phase for some of these characters just isn't compelling. Sure, we get to see exactly how Havik loses his face... but nobody asked for that information, and the fact that Scorpion just kinda did it on a whim with the two characters having no personal ties at all just seems to cheapen the significance of it. We hear that he wants to overthrow Seido's oppressive regime... but we don’t even _see_ Seido or any characters from Seido in action. What is this "oppression?" For all we know Havik could be overreacting to some minor shit that doesn't matter, like a traffic ticket, and Seido is largely innocent -- which considering his characterization in the intro dialogues would not surprise me. If we don't get to see what exactly Seido is doing, it's really hard to take this guy seriously. When a static screenshot of the Seidan capital is shown drowning in the arcade endings, we don't have context for why this matters besides "presumably a lot of people died offscreen, in a realm that only exists offscreen, in an inconsequential corner of a vast multiverse where literally anything can happen." So what? This backstory is tragically hollow in an age of rich cinematic story content.

And that whole crack about us being in an age of cinematic story content is no excuse as his backstory is anything but hollow and fits right in with story content like that. So nobody asking for how Havik lost his face means it's bad that they show us that? What? Scorpion didn't do it to him on a whim, were you even paying attention to the story? He acted quickly after almost getting his own face shoved in lava by Havik and Darrius, plus he was already enraged after learning about Bi Han letting their father die. Why does Scorpion have to have a personal tie with Havik to be able to maul his face? That doesn't cheapen the significance of Havik's face at all, he used that scar to be a symbol going forward which's awesome. That's the whole point of Seido's oppression, for all we know Havik is overreacting. Exactly like something for him to do, overract and bring chaos. Though his description does say he was severely punished for a petty crime so it's more likely that he's not overreacting. Seido is largely innocent regardless, many people having nothing to do with Havik's oppression live there unaware of what happened. How is it hard to take him seriously based on the anguish in his voice? Or that Seido is in Orderrealm, y'know the realm all about keeping law and order no matter what? Seido getting flooded isn't just a static screenshot lol, people didn't die off screen it's literally shown to you. And Seido didn't exist off screen either, what is wrong with you to where you need a bigger reason than killing billions of innocents to feel like this matters? We have plenty of context as to why it matters and there being a multiverse doesn't undermine it either. You just threw that in as another dig for the sake of it.

Exactly, you've already got people like him just wanting this Havik killed off and that'll apparently "fix" him lmao. When he was never broken, they're just actually developing the character and giving him a more in depth backstory, showing how he becomes the cleric of chaos in this timeline. But nope, because it's not just 3d era Havik loving chaos it's bad. MK "fans" biggest fears are new and interesting things tried with existing characters lol.

@@chrange9714 ... Dude. Havik tried to dunk Scorpion's face in molten metal while working as a goon for Quan Chi, failed, and had it done to him instead. What is exactly is Havik keeping the scar as a reminder supposed to symbolize? Being an incompetent goon for someone else's schemes? If somebody _from Seido_ had destroyed his face instead, it would give us a reason to believe in Seido's oppression and give Havik a deeply personal reason to keep the scar as a reminder. Scorpion, by comparison, has nothing to do with anything Havik cares about. They could have had Sub-Zero do it, or Johnny Cage, or freaking Mokap, and it wouldn't have made a lick of difference to the story. We get to see how it happens, which is fine... but it doesn't _mean_ anything. Show me the story chapter that demonstrates what exactly Seido did to piss off Havik, and I'll change my mind about everything I said about Seido being a primarily offscreen presence with no real consequence to the story. With Baraka, we see the quarantine camps and understand how his people are mistreated. With Li Mei, we see other characters rub her past failures in her face and understand her desire to reclaim her lost honor. We see Sub-Zero turn toward greed and drive his brother to form a rival clan. Some characters' stories are handled fairly well. But for Havik and the entire realm of Seido, there really isn't much there. Nothing about the plot of MK1 would have changed had Havik not shown up at all.

I think for the new era to not have a Chaosrealm makes sense due to Lui Kang being the one to construct it, but i can see Havik turning lets say half of Seido into Chaosrealm. Perhaps Havik discovered chaos magic and it turned him insane. I think he should've gotten a chapter and some wins under his belt and should've shown him being the guy behind the scenes more. He couldve been the guy setting up rivalries from all over the realms to lets say increase his chaos magic

What’s sad is even though Armaggddon has its flaws and was put together in an incredibly short amount of time it’s still pretty amazing, if they tried to do that today it would easily be the worst game in the entire series.

They could still disregard that Reptile intro and retcon the Dairou angle for Havik in MK13. To make way for potential in the real Dairou we knew from the 3D era. That's one retcon fans could actually respect for NRS.

Except for this game, every single intro dialogue is canon with even havik not even Denying that was his real name. Best thing to do it to get rid of mk1 havik entirely bcoz he’s literally not even havik at this point, it’s dairou in a fucking havik cosplay lol

@nabilahmed579 Maybe they can just say in the next game that Havik was only using the name Dairou to cover the tracks for the real Dairou for whatever circumstances. And considering how Sindel dies in the MK1 story, you can't really say every intro is canon. For instance, Sindel discussed to Li Mei about the scandal the Umgadi Matrons made for Li Mei, the one paltering her as the loose canon who let Jerrod be killed as seen in Tanya's ending for one intro, is spoken like it's in an AU where Sindel survived Ying Fortress. NRS is known for their inconsistencies with intros. Remember the intro in 11 between Kitana and D'Vorah? Where D'Vorah says she killed Jerrod only to be contradicted in Aftermath? Just brace yourself for this kind of trend in MK13.

Ngl, after Noob Saibot was brought in and he beat out my original favorite character, Reptile, I didn't really consider much about anyone else in the later games. Until the comics lol cause for me between the newer ninjas of UMK3 like smoke, rain, ermac, and Noob, I was totally sold. Lol and with my fave game actually being Shaolin Monks, I got fan service to a degree with all of them, even if it was just brief cameos lol But when the comics came out and we got that character development with Havik, and let me consider more of the little bit we learned about him in the chaos realm chapter of the storyline in Deception. The new timeline I feel really gave him something he needed though. Cause even with how goofy and chaotic the story concluded in the most recent game, it kinda felt appropriate with how it circled in on Havik lol I know we likely won't get as much in the area of who is Havik as I'd like in whatever's next, but what we've gotten so far really makes me want it lol

Despite the knoquest mode having terrible voice acting, I do miss Havic's calm, creepy voice. NR now likes making deformed characters have cartoonish, loud, raspy voices. Havik, baraka and meleena all share that same type of voice and it gets redundant.

Believe it or not, the reason why I also dislike the Havik being Dairou twist is because I truly like Dairou. His design of old Jet-Li movies and his background story has so much potential that is really sad seeing how wasted he is. I made peace with the idea that Dairou will never be relevante, but, as fan of Havik as well, I truly hope the expansión makes him justice.

Honestly, I just want this "alternate timeline" plot to end already. The first half of MK1 was genuinly interesting but the moment alternate timelines came up I just found myself completely checking out. We can't truly move forward if we stay so fixated on the past.

That's a you problem. Alternate timelines have been a thing since 9 and you're just now having a problem with it? Most others are fine with it and it's where NR wants the story to go which is theirs btw. It works especially with how interesting they're doing it, nobody's staying fixated on the past except you wanting the stories to just be like the old ones.

@@chrange9714 They weren't a thing in X, X actually gave the impression the new timeline was going to come into its own, while 11 felt like they were finally going to go in a completely different direction to inject some new blood and life into the series, instead we just ended up back in the same place as before.

@@VRHyoumaru Because you don't just start a timeline to throw it out a game later. X and 11 developed this new timeline created in nine, it did come into its own. That being said, hardly anything was really different in this timeline from the old one. They did go in a different direction and inject new blood and life into the series with this new era, actually doing new and interesting things with the characters instead of mostly keeping them the same. Now this timeline like with X and 11 will be developed and come into its own. We didn't end up back in the same place as before, we finally went forward.

@@VRHyoumaru No, we're going forward now. Titan Shang Tsung didn't drag us back to MK11 at all lol, that's like saying referencing anything that happened in a previous game is dragging us back. You're acting like mortal Raiden's story is just done or something, it's only just begun and will continue to be expanded upon with the story dlc and future games set in this timeline. It wasn't an hourglass story, simply involving the hourglass doesn't make it the same story as in 11. This now opens up the opportunity to do any kind of mish match characters they want from different timelines and it's awesome. Making time split every which way to where there were two outcomes from Shang Tsung and Lui Kang's battle in 11 was a very cool twist and many had even speculated before MK1 was even announced that both endings of Aftermath were canon which turns out they are. Don't why you'd just assume it was all over and done with.

MKX comics Havik was peak, what we got in MK1 was a downgrade and he feels underdeveloped. Titan Havik feels like that's how to characters should be. They should kill Dairou and then have Titan Havik become depowered a bit and then go into hiding in the main timeline so that he would be the real Havik. Also Hotaru should've been the one to scar Dairou, maybe using some sort of magic that he couldn't heal from. They also should have implemented part of Dairou's old bio into this game about his family being assassinated and him being blamed for it, I think that would have surely drove him to chaos.

So I never understood why the reboot was "MK9"...what was the 8th game? Or maybe I'm missing on what the 5th game was. Do they consider MK vs DC to be MK8? If so...that's lame as all hell since they made it a dumb T-Rated game and it sucked-ass as a whole. The character designs were terrible, the lack of actual fatalities was stupid, and the story was totally incohesive.

Have you completely forgotten what Mk1 and the New Era is about? The entire whining section about Mk1 Havik is essentially "he's not Havik from the old timeline, is bad." Cut the "on paper it's good" crap, everything they do with him in game is great and it's applying what's on paper to the actual story and cutscenes. What is wrong with Havik being Dairou here? You never gave a legitimate reason, all you did was groan like a 5 year old and call it an "identity crisis" when it is anything but. You're taking a character that was basically nothing really in the old timeline and mixing it with another character to make both even nore interesting than they were before. But because "Havik is not a symbol, he's a character," this is just bad I guess. Which you do realize Dairou is slowly becoming the character Havik as time goes on yes? This is his origin, it's something called character development. Making Havik Dairou adds a lot more complexity to him with him now being from Orderrealm and slowly turning into the cleric of chaos. Him flooding Seido was basically him turning it into Chaosrealm, it's flooded with water which Havik worshipped back in the old timeline, symbolizing chaos. Havik isn't shown to be some rough resistance leader, it's literally just him and Darrius. This is him starting out, we don't get a lot of time with him yet because this is his origin. We still have a lot to go, him seeking Quan Chi's help and flooding Seido later were just the beginning. And Seido being flooded is still a horrible thing, you don't need to spend a bunch of time in there to feel that or grow some attachment to it. He sees himself as a bringing of freedom to his people. Most of his intros involve him trying to rally others to aid him. And Havik getting his scar from Scorpion in the story mode but simply choosing not to fix it is badass, how does that undermine anything? By your logic it makes zero sense for him to just not be able to actually fix it for some reason. You're taking the ideas Havik is trying to show his people and saying "they're making Havik into an idea" no they're not. Havik is a character, he always was and still is. The ideas he stands for are a part of his character here and it's a different take on him given it's a new era. This whole spin on him is very interesting and I'd love to see where it goes. Unfortunately "fans" such as yourself just roll over and have a fit about Havik not being his old timeline self so he's essentially bad because of that. God forbid they try something new and interesting with some characters. I would hope they don't just kill Mk1 Havik off and actually show his progression to full on chaos Havik.
