Agreed. I think the inter-connectedness of a lot of the dialogue is what made this one standout. You get all these mini-conversations and dialogue chains across different characters which is nice. To further elaborate, the original trainer of the main protagonist (the classic ones, not the Jackie Chan remake) was Mr. Miyagi. His method of training, however, was simple chores that seemed mundane until after a good long while of the main character began to question when he was actually going to learn Karate. "Wax on, Wax off". He was waxing a fence in circular motions. Then, when Mr. Miyagi told him to "Wax On" and "Wax Off", he told him this while swinging at the main character. But he repeated the motions, and in the end, managed to block easily. Basically, turning chores into fighting moves.

For this Shao, maybe not so much . His intros and story does mention his primary motivation (so far) is to remove what sees as incompetent leadership and possible earthrealm interference. The ladder endings suggest that there are marginalized groups who jump to his cause, indicating some credence to the leadership's failure. Bi-han is just after power, he admits such to Johnny Cage. There was no greater benefit to earthrealm for his actions. To a rebel like Shao, that is disgusting. Also, I like that in the ladder endings, Shao didn't sacrifice his new eager but weak recruits(to Shang Tsung or other nefarious power ups), and instead decided to risk Reiko on subduing Onaga.

It's why current day movements have waning support and only cause even more problems and negative public sentiment. Violence is not the solution to any problem that isn't immediately life or death. Shao Khan is a horrible choice to lead any concerted effort for rights or justice. Note, I don't imply you said anything more than what your post says. See, that's the funny thing about this Shao: he genuinely believes that he's acting in Outworld's best interest, ergo he was _not_ betraying Outworld. He feels that Earthrealm cannot be trusted to be an ally in the long run, because he truly believes that Liu Kang is not a genuine friend to the Outworlders and is secretly plotting to backstab them and take over. His conflict with the royal family stems from this disagreement on how Outworld should hold its policy on Earthrealm to ensure the safety of the realm; he's an extremist with some good intentions. In contrast, Bi-Han's reason for turning against Earthrealm? Power and glory... to _himself_ first and foremost, dressed up as "bettering the Lin Kuei" to excuse his ambitions and pride. In layman's terms, a not-so-well-intentioned-extremist out for personal gains. Of course Shao wouldn't like Bi-Han based on this fact.

Well. In the game itself, General Shao is mostly a rebel who does what he does out of perceived wrongdoings done by Sindel, and is for the most part a well-intentioned (albeit rather misguided) character. Bi-Han, on the other hand, is just a traitorous, power-hungry scoundrel whose heinous actions illicit repulsion on everyone for all the right reasons.
