Mortal Kombat is an American media franchise centered on a series of video games originally developed by Midway Games in 1992. The development of the first game was originally based on an idea that Ed Boon and John Tobias had of making a video game starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, but when that idea fell through, a science fantasy-themed fighting game was created instead. Still, the developers paid homage to him with Johnny Cage (one of the main characters in the franchise), a fictional film star whose personal style resembles Van Damme's.
The original game spawned many sequels with several action-adventure games. It also has a comic book series and a card game. Movie producer Larry Kasanoff licensed the rights to the game in the early 1990s and produced the first movie of the franchise. Kasanoff also produced the second movie, animated TV series, live-action TV series movies, the first one million platinum-selling album, and a live-action tour. Mortal Kombat has become the best-selling fighting game franchise worldwide and one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time.
The series has a reputation for high levels of graphic fighting, including, most notably, its fatalities, which are finishing moves on defeated opponents instead of knocking them out. Controversies surrounding Mortal Kombat, in part, led to the creation of the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) video game rating system. Early games in this series were also noted for their realistic digitized sprites and an extensive use of palette swapping to create new characters. Following Midway's bankruptcy, the MK development team was acquired by Warner Bros. Entertainment and reestablished as NetherRealm Studios.

I will be going premium as usual, the one time I was enticed for the Kollector’ s was the bookends. At least the statue is something other than Scorpion/Subzero…but to bad it’s never Kitana/Mileena. Edit: I’m on PC only for the first time atm and I’m unsure how big the online presence will be. I ditched my PS4 Pro a few years ago and switched to MK11 on steam and it was a shocker how meh the online community was compared to PS4. May snag a PS5 digital for this and Street Fighter 5.

I play on PC and have never had an issue with online presence. Although I'm not used to console levels of presence so maybe it's way higher there

@@Revacholiere The amount of people to play and the skill levels are much more varied on the consoles and you rarely see the same player twice. From my experience on the steam east coast 8pm-1am it’s always the same pool of players over and over again and i got bored online pretty quickly.

Darn.. I would have throwed money at the screen if they have made a Kitana (or Mileena) statue ..as the one with Scorpion from MKX was. (talking about the normal Scorpion version ..not the chrome or whatever the name was for that version. Cuz they did do 2 versions of a Scorpion statue during MKX).

That statue is terrible his head looks like a square. Anyways no statue is worth it because they are made for like 2 dollars and sold for that price I have nowhere to put it. Premium is all I want because it gets me everything in game and dlc acess early this time although I pray the dlc release is way faster than last games it was awful waiting months for a Character that gets boring in 2-3 days. I hope they don’t drag this game either but they will

The Kameos will likely release with each character, but it has not been confirmed. I would not expect them day 1.

@@solstafir2424 Standard is $70 & it only comes with the game. Premium is $100 and it comes with Kombat Pack 1, but only KP1, as well a steel art case & the base game. Kollector's Edition has the 16 Inch Scale figurine of Liu Kang, an art panel of Liu Kang in his MK1 Skin, but with his traditional colors, KP1 and The base game. It's over $240+

Even if I do collect statues.. that Liu Kang version ain't one I am willing to collect. I don't Iike it ..I rather prefer the statue that we got with MKX ..the Scorpion statue (but not the chrome or whatever version was that ..I talk about the normal Scorpion statue. Can't preorder, nor order. I'm not hunting down a PS5 for one game, loaded with dlc and microtransactions. Mk11 I think was my last one. Instead, I'm just gonna invest in an arcade1up gameroom, already have the 30th anniversary edition. Pay one time, get 14 games. Including let's be honest, the greatest of mk 1-3 w ultimate. They mentioned dragon crystals and I was like, NOT only am I NOT getting a PS5, but I'm not gonna be constantly drained for crystals. Alas, I bow out at 11. :(
