I don’t think friendships were ever about exclusively doing something for the opponent. They just do something innocent in general. If I remember correctly, Sheva’s classic one was just her balancing plates while the opponent still falls over and dies. Maybe my memory is failing me tho.

Friendships are substitutes for killing your opponent, they where first added to stop people complaining about Mortal Kombat from being to violent. Having the characters do fun, goofy and entertaining things based on or in contrasts to their personality and backgound. Also you missed Rambo, Rain and Mileena

Netherealm does indeed have the rights to Batman. Considering they created the 2 Injustice games and the MK VS DC game. But I doubt they'd want to create a new model for batman just for this game's art style for just a cameo in Joker's friendship

I think that Friendship doesnt have to do anything with the character your fighting with, it would be the real person your fighting with. Friendships are a way to finish a round without hurting your oppenent and to show a sign of *friendship* between eachother Also some of these..yes some dont make sense, like "what does that have to do with them thats weird" I think they do make sense because the friendships revolve around their abilities and your character having a fun time (Abilities as in for example: Kotal khan: uses his sun ray power to have a nice tan Noob: uses his shadow clones to play jump rope Jade: uses her Bo-staff to break a piñata Geras: uses his sand powers to make a sandcastle ETC.) So yeah, to the other character it may not represent an actual friendship buts more to put your actual opponent at ease and let your own character have a fun time using their abilities for fun!

They're not all about giving stuff. Most of the fighters do random stuff for their friendships like in UMK3 , Kano blows a bubble gum, Sindel kicks a field goal, or Jade turns her pole into a pogo stick xD

Raiden's friendship is a nod to his MK2 Friendship, but back in MK2 he would just summon Kidd Thunder and he would say "Kidd Thunder!" and that was it. Now it's a bit more elaborate 😄

To be fair, the Friendships always have been something for the Kombatant who's performing it, not for the opponent. They are supposed to be something silly and harmless to oppose the Fatalities and to adress the backlash they were having back in the time due to their violence. "Let your enemy alone and just have fun."

They do have the license for Batman because they work together with Warner Bros and also work on the Injustice games, they just didn't really model him or give him too much of a spotlight since the DLC character is the Joker and adding Batman just for a quick cameo would be a bit too much. I swear even back in the early days that Friendships had very little, if anything at all to do with the opponent. The only role the opponent ever played was having their sprite in the shot, but that was before cinematic shots like today were really plausible.

For Fatalities, you can find a video where all fatalities are performed on D'vorah. Because her blood isn't red, you'll be able to get past all of KZbin's censorship rules. That's what a lot of people do when they watch them.

actually the reason they didn't have batman there was because that would mean there would have been a Batman model in game which would pose the question "if you made a model for him why not just add him in the game?" it's what happened with mileena and Sektor and Cyrax are in story with models and move sets but not playable

The original friendships they just had the other characters on screen because they didnt have camera cuts in the engine. The friendships from my memory barely had anything to do with your opponent aside from maybe Barakka since he just holds out the gift. Even then the opponent never took the gift. Johnny Cage would basically give the autograph to the players and not the opponent.

If you watch the fatalities, watch them being done on Reptile, D’vorah, or any of the guest characters that won’t have red blood. I’ve seen the channels that make those videos say that that helps them skirt the restrictions on graphic content that way. How true that is, I don’t actually know, but it’s worth looking into.

In Kompetitive Matches, you need to win a match without Blocking in order to be able to use a Friendship. Outside of Kompetitive Matches, there are no requirements to use Friendships.

To do a friendship, you have to win without blocking. Also, the friendships were just added as part of Aftermath, not the original game. They probably didn't want to include Cassie's opponent in hers because she has a fatality in 10 where she takes a selfie with her opponent after killing them.

I have no idea why this isn't obvious but the point of the "Friendship" in this game is to humanize the characters by having them do something you would least expect. It was only originally added as an alternative to killing due to the flood of complaints over the game's hyper violence.

No need for a Flawless Victory - maybe certain conditions need to be met, but usually that wasn't one of them. Started in MK2 (finish the round without using punches), ran through MK3 (not allowed to use block) then they stopped from MK4 onwards. Here they brought them back. And also, the opponent usually just stands there dizzy without falling. (Though they might eventually die of boredom.. . .?)

Friendships were made to be a cutsie thing so Netherealm wouldn't get in trouble with moms when their kids would perform fatalities on each other. Has nothing to do with the opponent(in game), shang tsung has made rainbows since they were introduced and the ninjas would tell the players playing to buy MK action figures and didn't interact with the in game opponent at all. It's pointed at the audience (You and the other person playing) not the in game opponent. They never made sense, people complained about fatalities so much the company essentially made friendships as a giant middle finger to people complaining. They were random and didn't fit the game which was always the point. Makes no more sense than babalities where you turn the opponent into a baby.

Patiently awaiting those animated MK Legends movie reactions. Honestly, as much as I love them, I've often voiced the opinion that MK would thrive way better as a show. Since the world is so huge and there's so many characters that have their own fans, turning it into a show would allow for more of those characters to be in the spotlight. Scorpion's Revenge and ESPECIALLY Battle of the Realms suffer from pacing issues, which were mainly due to WB's uncertainty and hesitancy to invest more into the property. Now after they sold well enough, we're getting movies that aren't really part of a canon and are more like a bunch of fun What Ifs with the MK toybox. It'll certainly be interesting to see what you think of them, being as invested in the MK story as you are now. Really looking forward to it!
