MORTAL KOMBAT - Best Lines (1995)
PLOT: Lord Rayden (Christopher Lambert) handpicks three martial artists -- federal agent Sonya Blade (Bridgette Wilson), Shaolin monk Lui Kang (Robin Shou) and action movie sensation Johnny Cage (Linden Ashby) -- and mentors them. After intense training, Rayden transports the trio to Outworld, the site of an inter-dimensional fighting tournament. There, the three humans must defeat the demonic warriors of the evil Shang Sung (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) -- or allow Sung to take over the Earth.

Classic! I loved this movie when I first saw it as a 14-year-old kid at the cinema and I still love it when I'm 43. Watch it every year at least ONCE. Now I love the Godfather and all those classics but this film is just FUN action for everybody who grew up with the first Mortal Kombat games.

Fun fact: Jean-Claude Van Damme turned down the role of Johnny Cage to do Street Fighter (1994). The character in the games was allegedly originally based on him.

Allegedly nothing, Johnny was based on a lot of aspects of Van Damme but he turned down the role because Johnny wasn't best boy Edit: he couldn't turn down a role for a movie that hadn't even come out yet and considering the filming timelines he couldn't have commited time for MK.

The entire movie structure was based on Bruce Lee's "Enter The Dragon".... Go watch it and see the parallels barrage you. Johnny cage, Shang Tsun, Raiden, Kitana, and Liu Kang were already designed before the mortal combat franchise was even established.

its not that he turned down the role as johnny cage fo r the movie, but mortal kombats whole reason to exist was that it was suppose to be a game starring Van Damme. At some point during the development of MK, they werent able to get Van Damme on board as promised, so they created Johnny cage till fill JCVDs role. Although as of the time as i write this, MK1 is gonna have a jean claude van damme skin for johnny, which is pretty cool

@@Synn12356 so it doesn't matter as long as the miscast person is white? People bitching and moaning about Ariel, but complaining about Christopher Lambert playing a Chinese thunder god is ok. And don't get me wrong, Christopher Lambert is my favorite Raiden, but if you're mad about the nordic gods in the MCU (which are really only inspired by the nordic gods) then you should be mad about this. Personally I don't think it matters as long as the portrayal is good. Just make sure you're consistent with your outrage.
