I owned this as a kid. I enjoyed the retro full commercial and more important to ME than even the game was the fact that the game soundtrack was included in the disc along with a few different versions of techno syndrome. The song that was made famous by the 1995 MK movie. Turns out that song came out a couple years before the movie did. For the soundtrack alone, i love this sega cd classic! Great upload, brother. 👍👊

I’m gonna thumbs up and heart this bro for those awesome facts about the soundtrack alone. I remember back in the day putting every Sega CD disc I had in my CD player just to hear the music from the game and the recordings they used. Robo Aleste and Sonic CD were two of my faves also because their soundtracks were so epic. I remember the variations of Techno Syndrome also including the one used in the commercial at the beginning. Yup, 2 years prior to the movie back in 1993 it was made for the MK Album which was released a year later In 1994, which was to accompany the game and used specifically in the first movie and fun fact later on it would also be used in a game in a trailer for MK 11's story mode.😎 There is also an updated/different version of the song with more characters in the lyrics for MK Annihilation. It's on the soundtrack for that movie. Easily the best theme song for a video game ever!

Also this is what the cheats mean in the DULLARD menu: Fighter 1 = Choose the very first opponent you want to face in the tournament ladder. Fighter 2 = Choose the second opponent you want to face in the tournament ladder. Chop-Chop = Choose which object you wish to break in Test Your Might, option includes Wood (very easy), Stone (easy), Steel (medium), Ruby (hard), and Diamond (very hard) 1Play Chop = Choose how likely you want the Test Your Mest to happen in a one player game for example X3 means it happen after three matches. 2Play Chop = Choose how likely you want the Test Your Might to happen in a two player game for example X5 means it happen after five matches. Plan Base = You could choose for the game to randomly plan the ladder tournament its own way or had it at default like the arcade way. P1 Win = Player 1 had infinite health P2 Win = Player 2 had infinite health Moon = Guaranteed that something is flying across the moon at the Pit stage giving you many opportunity to find Reptile. Dads = Turn the shadowy figure flying across the moon at the Pit stage into the head of the Probe owner, the Fergality guy. Green = Had Reptile dropped down to tell you hints on how to find him every match. Lives = Infinite Credits (Free Play) Flags = Always play at the Palace Gate, it's a boring game if you turn this on since you will never be anywhere else but that same stage until the match with Goro and Shang Tsung. Turbo = Fast speed, the game plays at twice the speed. Blood = Turn on or off the blood and gore, this turns the game back into the Sega Genesis version. Cheat = Turn all the cheats on so they'll happen or turn it off to disable all of them 1st Map = Choose which stage you want to start your first match at.

I remember playing a demo of this on Sega CD in a Blockbuster as a kid, lol. I recall using Johnny Cage and playing on the Goro's Lair stage. I distinctly remember walking over to the Puppet Master 3 VHS box afterward, remembering I had only seen the first two at that point, and asking my mom if we could rent it. Such a random memory

All I want is a mk1 remaster. Include: the turn around jump kick from mk2. Can play as goro and Shang and reptile. Secret battles against palace guards and monks. Extra animation and unique fatalities for them. Extra fatalities for main characters. Combos. Stay true to og digitized sprites.

I never had a Sega CD (or any Sega console) growing up. Tbh, I think this version looks and sounds better than the SNES port, despite the voices being a bit drowned out. The biggest drawback appears to be the stutter in the loading times. Another great video and commentary 👌

Nice port this one, love the music, especially the accompanying riff with a Fatality - it was PERFECT timing with Scorpion at 03:30 - however those loading lags with Shang Tsung? Good lord talk about breaking the flow of your fight, that's outrageous. But you show again why you're the Shang Fun of the MK world and triumph! Fab stuff- WELL DONE! 👊

Your different MK playthroughs on different hardware are always a treat! Might I recommend playing MK on the Midway Arcade Classics game on the PSP? It was my first exposure to the original MK and I could never beat Shang Fun so it'd be nice to see someone do it! 👊

I play the Midway Arcade Treasures Extended PSP version on the PSVita in a video from a few weeks or months ago, but I play through MK2 on it. I can definitely do MK and MK3 on it however. Stay tuned and I’ll give you a shoutout for it when I drop the video 👊🏼

At the time I thought that was the closets version to the arcade version on console lol the music was basically from the arcade. shout out to the music video lol im glad I dont remember much of the loading. shout out to the instruction booklet that had art from the comic book I think.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe the Shang Tsung theme is from the commodore amiga version of mortal kombat. Also worth noting is that they chose this chiptune version so as to not interfere with Shang Tsung loading processing

In the 90’s, when first time I played MK for Sega CD was at my friend’s house and I thought it was gonna be like GÉNESIS version. It was but not that bad! Well, at first I thought I was gonna play another “Probe clone” but when I heard the sounds I thought I was at the arcade except with Genesis sound track and graphics 😂😂😂

Not sure if it was already mentioned, but basically the reasoning for not having the characters face the screen in Sub-Zero's fatality was once again about saving memory. Rather than having 6 (one shared for Scorpion and Sub-Zero) additional severed head sprites in the data, they would just reuse the decapitated head sprite from Cage's fatality to save memory. Granted, they probably could've added them back into the Sega CD version (like fixing Sub-Zero's stance), but maybe they didn't think of it, lol.

I’ve always wanted to play this version. So I got an emulator and played. It’s not too different from the Sega Genesis version. The music is great, and of course the loading times can a bit rough at times, but not too bad.

I'm not sure what all of the options in the cheat menu means but for certain Moon makes it so a silhouette always passes over the moon in the pit. And I think green makes it so Reptile always shows up and gives clues. Dads over the moon changes the shadow to varios other fun things.. One of them allows the computer to perform fatalities..

I don't know why they don't just port the arcade originals to modern consoles in a collection and add online play. It'd be great. Capcom do it with street fighter. So I don't know why mortal kombat is so difficult to play these days. It'd be simple to contract it out to a porting company like M2 and get someone good to handle netcode and just then add the games, the already written, already made games, without needing to develop anything. Even if you didn't add a training mode, people would still buy them.

The funny part about this whole game was that the grainy commercial they used show footage of only the Super NES version of Mortal Kombat instead of the Sega CD version. I could understand if they use the arcade footage but c'mon Super NES footage and the quality of the actual game doesn't even match that.

There's a hack for this that restores the proper BGM order along with the restoring the one missing song. It also does a few small graphical tweaks like improving some color schemes. I know it sounds crazy, but having the proper song order and soundtrack really does improve it. That is also such a stupid mistake and I don't see how nobody caught it. The credits show this port was made by like 3 people though so maybe nobody cared. I bought this when it was first released and in my mind I thought of the load times as being horrible between rounds. Several years later I revisited it and was actually shocked at how short it is when compared to PS1 or even last gen load times. Play some newer games like Samurai Shodown 2019 and you'll appreciate how short these here are.

You can adjust the volumes using the volume slider on the Genesis you just need to balance it. You might want to adjust your emulator settings. It's not like this on actual hardware if you have a Model 1 Genesis.

Other than the arcade music being there, but random, not matching the stages, that's about the only thing it has going for it other than the blood and control response.. Might as well just play the stand alone genesis version.. SNES by far was much better in the graphics and sound department, and they learned from the first mistake when MK2 came out.. Probe Software were pretty lazy ports, and the Genesis could have had better MK games, as MK3 was at least comparable to the SNES, where as MK1 and 2 were garbage on the Genesis..
