This short interview made me feel better than a Hallmark card. To hear anyone speak softly, without boast or malice. I first became aware of Morten Lauridsen's choral music in 1990, and over the decades many of his pieces have become a part of my life. I'm alarmed to read that he's planning to live fulltime on the isolated and spartan Waldron Island, Washington, in his mid-70s! But I'm grateful that USC was his home base for 55 years and he has so many satisfying memories there. He marches to his own drummer, that's for sure. His choral music gifts to the world are many and profound, and will resonate for centuries.
