As someone with an extremely similar job, it's fun 70% of the time (90% of the time if you're playing a game you love) but it does become very grindy at some points. I write guides and occasionally I will be working on the same game for an entire month and I have to force myself to finish cause if I don't all my work is useless. Kind of like coding, if you code 90% of a program you can't just release what you got cause the program won't work if you do. You HAVE to finish for any of your work to have value

It depends on the person. I enjoyed my games, but I hate the grind. Even if I REALLY like and WILL 100% that game, it always feel like a chore. Always, even if it's my favourite game like Tactics Ogre and FFT. So I can't imagine grinding thousands of games and the majority are games that I have no interest in the first place. It makes me throw up just thinking about it. Again, it depends from person to person. I wouldn't think playing games as a job as a Paradise tbh. It's nice, but not as good as most people would think.

Great review! Glad most of the changes seem like positive ones. Removing tedium is always welcome 🙌 What do you think of the achievement list overall? Just glancing through afraid of new content spoilers, PS trophies seem to be entirely story related, which is a bit of a bummer but actually doable. At least it encourages seeing the 3 paths. Saw at least one related to the Palace but it didn't seem to be based on completing it? With you being someone who 100%s everything, I'd love to see a list of games you think are worth 100%ing. I know you do Steam achievements which don't always match up with PS but still. My list is very short and has no RPGs as of yet 😂 REmake2 and REmake3 because they really encourage unique ways of tackling the game as well as ones that are challenging but not absurdly so. Minimal collect-athons.

Too much redundancy and with it being so limited already why not remove the systems that no longer make sense? It's all shit. Been playing this since it first came out for snes, the psp one was pinnacle, not flawless but I would have gladly paid this price for individual levelling and the voice acting (graphics I'm neutral on, whatever works) everything else could have been exactly the same, but they had to put their dirty fingers in every single system, and they don't gel with eachother now. The game feels like less than the whole of its parts because they shrunk the parts. Glad I got this refund. Never paying for a squeenix remake redone reaborted product again.

@@seanothepop4638 Yea, it's true the only changes they needed to make was individual leveling and voice acting. Removing random battles was a terrible idea. Also weird to put a level cap in removing that freedom. (Also removing Rogues :/) And finally removing the ability to allow any class to recruit anything was bad. The rest of the game is good, but it they definitely messed with some stuff that they didn't need to.

Whole game looks great but I agree with You bout 'Union Level'. I hate when devs/games limit You/use artificial difficulty to slow You down. Strategy games/rpgs do not need to add difficulty - played many of them and grinding levels helped just a lil bit - strategy and tactic was always way to win in battle. Tho this game is nicely done - Just bc union level I'm on edge - I don't accept limitations - I accept insane difficulty in fights bosses etc This is reason I'll pick PSP ver over that one. Disgaea / Stella Deus / FFT and many others have ramping up difficulty and it becomes realy hard later but don't realy limit You a lot. I would prefer Devs not limiting players and runing difficulty up - rewarding smart tactic choices and punishing severly bad ones.

@armorvil
@armorvil Жыл бұрын
@@Terron29 They ruined the earlier Fire Emblems for me lol (GBA or Gamecube, mainly). The stats you gain at level up are random, and since you can savestate before leveling up, you can reload and do another sequence of actions so the RNG changes to make you gain different stats. But not only is the whole process very annoying, it's also cheating because your characters will be overpowered very quickly and it will ruin the tactical gameplay if your characters are invincible and one-shot everything. On the other hand, since the games can be very hard, not doing it means being ok with having crappy stat gains if you're unlucky and risking your characters to be one-shot-ted or barely damaging the enemies later on... It's a pure headache I don't have a solution for. You end up being obsessed with having the "right" stats, not too weak and not too strong, which makes the games not fun. The random stat gains at level up is one of the main interest too because it makes every playthrough fresh, but you neither want to get screwed (hence you use savestates - especially since they are games like Tactics Ogre where one wrong move can have catastrophic consequences and you don't want to waste time by restarting a battle from the beginning) nor make the games a cakewalk (so you want to get screwed by the leveling system sometimes but not too much). This turns the games into a "which stats my characters are supposed to have at this time?" game which makes them very unfun. Perfect lose-lose situation that makes those great games almost unplayable for me now.
@Terron29
@Terron29 Жыл бұрын
@@armorvil Can 100 percent relate as I did the VERY same thing. I love fire emblem on gamecube (my favorite with geneology of the holy war second) I would constantly quit out and go back in if I got bad stats. I think it was a bit ridiculous though as sometimes not a single stat would raise if i remember correctly? F that. There should be a bad luck protection like a minimum of 2 stats go up and max of 5 or something lol

The older look (1995) was actually not really pixelated at all. It's something that seems to have been lost to time somewhat, even to developers. While modern sharp pixel graphics have their place and charm, I sorely miss the softer and more expressive style of the golden age of 2d, that just can't be quite replicated on modern hardware. The emulation scene has been working on shaders to approximate this for many years, and has done a lot of fantastic work, but there's still nothing quite like the original look.

@@CrumpetsNBiscuits yes, it really is the old crt technology, because old games rendered on modern hardware will also have the sharp pixelated look. I do still hope some day we'll get the perfect filter for modern screens, cause crt's are also not the most practical things sadly.

I miss it, too. This game in the original presentation was gorgeous to behold, and I really, really miss the old character portraits. It was genuinely one of the best looking games for the Super Nintendo! Though unfortunately I only ever got to play to the PlayStation 1 version on the actual console and have had to emulate the original. I actually have a Japanese copy of the Famicom game though, in the box and everything, because of how much I love it. The PSP version, while a significantly different experience, is really just as good and in terms of extra content and secrets it offers so much more, so I'm very excited to be able to play it again on Switch, something I've missed for years since my Vita broke. I have the Super Nintendo version on my phone under LaunchBox and Retroarch but having it on a proper handheld console is much better.

Yea the old crts didn’t show sharp pixels like all the new pixel art games do, they don’t truthfully replicate the experience of playing on original hardware. I always find it odd when people scream about pixels because I think they misunderstand how these displayed for 99% of use back then.

And the youtubers with their obscenely rare rgb setups also aren’t what any people had back then either. We played on rf, without studio quality crts.

Are you level up stats directly influenced by your class? I used to always have my wizards class up a bunch as ninjas in order to increase their speed/ability to cast more quickly…wizards and some melee units were way too slow and missed to often if you didn’t do this…

Charms are a nice addition, instead of switching classes to min/max stats, you can just equip charms. With Final Fantasy Tactics and FFT Advanced, you want Speed, HP and Strength? you was going Samurai + Squire for X amount of levels. Same idea for Magic Power.

I din play the PSP version. The version I play is the first Japanese version on SNES. and I notice that one different is previously you level up individual unit. And now they have change to whole party getting the same EXP at the end of the battle. This is one of a welcome new feature. As I remember when I first play I have to leveling up each unit individually.

Awesome review bud, you are quickly becoming my favorite game reviewer period. You seem to have similiar taste to me for most things, and even on the things I disagree with you have a clear thought process and you make your points very clearly and well laid out. And I really love that you 100% the games you review. It really does make you stand out, and it helps remove a lot out the questions or doubts I have with some other reviewers. There are moments where sometimes someone says "... these things might clear up in the end game" or speak like they have no knowledge on one mechanic or another that seems rather important. It makes me wonder how much they really played and how reliable their take is. To me it doesn't feel like you can properly review a game if you haven't played all of it, aside from maybe some achievements depending on the style. It's like a movie reviewer who only watched 3/4ths of the movie. Your reviews feel complete and fully fleshed out, and it makes my decisions much easier to make based on that. I appreciate your time and effort, and you are doing a very good job bud :)

Thanks for confirming the game works in the steam deck. Now I feel confortable just preordering the game. I guessed it would work but I have so many JRPGs in my backlog that won't work for some reason or another that I wasn't sure if I could enjoy it again laying in my bed like I did with my psp years ago 🙂

Are you still able to run into random battles on the world map? One of my favorite things back on the psp was snagging a lizardman from tynemouth hill and making him into a juggernaut later. So far ive only seen the training stuff but no random battles

this is one of the best game i played before on psp for me its almost perfect and yes i like it more than the fft even at end game i can play it endlessly the only problem for me in its endgame is the attack stat limit to 999 which is very weird that all of my characters have 999 attack stats imagine a dagger wielder have a same attack in a much larger weapons like hammer or heavy sword wielder. sorry for my english

The 4 slots limit for Spell sucks. I honestly think it's a step back. It was actually the best rework they made for the PSP version, to be able to cast a lot of variety of spells is what made that game fun. I can understand if they made Skill limited to 4 as well, since now they somehow put more passive skills on equipments and we have more equipment slots now. The 4 items limit is also fine. It's just the spell limit. Having to choose only 4 is very constricting. If they needed to put balance in the game, I'd rather they give us simply stronger enemies rather than limiting my versatility. Like for real, I can't even put some fun spells for my Lord Denam, since Heal, Spirit Surge, and Starfall take up 3 slots already. I get it if I put other spells like Major Heal, Resurrect, Boon of Swiftness, and other debuff cleansing spells would make him too OP, but at least I still want put other fun stuffs like Teleport, Springboard, Nullify Strike, Negate Spell, Holy Shield, etc. This nerf simply takes so much fun out of any mage classes, including Ninja. Why didn't they just make the Finishing Moves limit to be 4 instead so we can have 8 Spells. That would be so much better. Even if I have someone with 2 weapons I can easily just pick 2 Moves from each weapon just fine. This is the most let down part I have from Reborn, aside from the lack of multiplayer mode.

When you do these, could you do a little section on the achievements? I'm trophy hunter and Most games have 1 or 2 really hard/annoying achievements that can sometimes make or break me wanting to go for the 100% so it'd be kinda nice to have a little blurb in there about them.

@@wahahabuh I mean, some games let you rename and they just say the original name (Final Fantasy Tactics: WOTL), don’t say the name at all, or replace it with another word (brother, friend, etc). I already very much dislike the voice acting so I’ll be turning it off, so it’s a little disappointing for me.
