FYI this version of the game is somewhat rough in a lot of areas compared with what I have planned for the game when it releases into Early Access. But the demo will be receiving major updates prior to launch, including one tomorrow with full game-wide gamepad support.

You should totally check out the first game. It's an absolute delight, either alone or with friends. It's not completely open-world like this is, a run is divided into discrete levels, but that could actually make for a great primer for you and your son to play together.

The first game is one of my favorite games with over 700 hours spent and all achievements unlocked in Steam. I'm looking forward to the sequel obviously though I think the sequel's demo didn't make the best impression. The first game got you into the chaotic immersive sim elements pretty quickly while the sequel's demo felt a bit too focused on showcasing the new crafting/settlement systems. A know some friends that bounced off it hard because of the early "collect X amount of wood" quest. But if the dev can manage to balance the new features with the preexisting chaos, I think they'll have a winner on their hands.

Hehe.. played the first but was back in 2017-18. Got steams says I got about 20+ hrs in so I know I enjoyed it. Still a fan of rogue or rogue-like games.. I think I died in some really funny ways in this games... traps and all and animals.. Have a feel I'll be picking up this game when it comes out.

Doesn't seem to be marketed as such, though I guess it depends on why you dislike roguelikes. If it's permadeath, this game doesn't have it by default, IIRC.
