I picked up this 1983 Chevrolet C10 longbed pickup as part of an online auction this winter. Based on 4 pictures I knew there was a lot of potential with this Silverado. As much as I want to use this pickup as a donor for other vehicles in our fleet or ding it up as a cool daily driver it has been SOLD!!! As always, thanks for watching!

I really enjoy the business and industrial history cutaways. Digging through scrap on the farm I took some time to investigate the raised “Ross” lettering on an old combine. Learning the history of the Ross Gear and Tool Company was as much fun as stripping down this old machine. As it turns out, America and Canada used to make stuff other than lawyers and activists.

Always fun to see a square body come back to life, and get stuck in the snow... at least you have an all-terrain dog with you to go for help! Still love the Duff dog, and our Mortske friend. I had commented on the Instagram post but guess I'll comment here too. I have two cars that have been Rusty Jonesed. One is an 82, one is an 85 both our GM A bodies and as such love to rot out. The product worked pretty well. My 82 has not really been used in our salty Wisconsin winters, but my 85 went through 15 winters before I stopped driving it in the snow. The rockers, fenders and quarter panels are original and are still hole free! The product was nothing more than a cavity wax. I don't like the plastic plugs covering the holes that were drilled all over in the brand new car body. I guess that there were few options for getting the good stuff in there. Additionally, they sprayed the amber cavity wax all over under the hood and sprayed a lovely thick rubberized undercoating crap on the floor pan. The dealership I worked at in the '90s had all of the leftover application equipment still. In fact, most of the garbage cans that we used were old Rusty Jones wax drums. I still have the original Rusty Jones owner card for one of my vehicles. It was like a credit card with the vehicle identification number and owner name on it. You had to present that every year for its annual inspection and touch-up in order to maintain the lifetime warranty against rust. I have all the original paperwork as well. Great video!

I agree with you. That is way too nice a truck to sell or part out. A new ignition tumbler, a piece of pipe to replace the missing cat. converter and a little rust repair, would be well worth the time and money. For a 40 year old truck, she's in great condition!

13:47 Rusty Jones is in the same genre as Ziebart. "Hello Rusty Jones, goodbye rusty cars!" They went bankrupt in the late 80s, but there's still Ziebart in some places. Line-X shops do undercoatings as well, and probably the most hyped brand name nowadays would be Fluid Film. Or I suppose Rust-Eze in the Cars Cinematic Universe if you're into that sort of thing. edit...and the Mortske Minute in Studio D basically covered that!!!

I do miss the plentiful square bodies 15-25 years ago. Had an opportunity to buy a REAL nice one back in Texas in '95. Was a navy blue '87 Silverado, regular cab, 2 wheel drive, long bed, TBI 350, 700R4 automatic overdrive, manual windows and locks but did have tilt and cruise, digital AM-FM stereo with cassette. Extra clean and like 80K on the clock. Chevy dealer wanted $5995 for it. I ended up getting an '87 Turbo 4-cylinder New Yorker instead for like $3700 from the Honda dealer instead. Definitely should've bought the truck.

Carpet in the bathroom is the best idea ever... especially when the toilet overflows. I used to have a '79 Celica like the one at 18:08 ... same color even. One of the best cars I have ever owned. edit: The torque convertor was not locking up, most likely, because the brake light switch is not adjusted properly or broken. The convertor unlocks when you press the brake pedal.

@@MortskeRepair yep, either forward or backward. Check that brake light switch on this rig. The major clue was the brake lights staying on (lockup)

I pulled out a 86 chevy k20 in the fall of 2007 that sat with another bad motor it was a napa reman 4 bolt main crate 350 sbc, with 112k miles with a wiped timing chain supposably,,i wish because it was a forged but scarred bottom end and 6 spun bearings so I pulled it out and rebuilt a 75 Chevy k20 Silverado 350 bored 0.30 over also a 4 bolt main motor with a forged crank i got from a buddy of mine to build, powdered metal lt4 style connecting rods one of the only parts harvested from the crate 350 out of the truck, and put a set of 0.20 dome trw hyperuetic pistons on the rods and $1,000 balanced bottom rotating assembly, put the competition cams xe 268h 477/480 lift cam with the k motion double beehive springs and the 991 cylinder heads from the crate 350 rebuilt them put the.550 lift capable valve springs on the new manley street master valves and new pin in rocker arm studs, stamped steel gm replacement rocker arm assembly that will come back to bite me,,,, and the competition cams hardened steel pressed end moly pushrods and the truck factory starter and the reman qjet from the reman napa 350, and the distributor plugs and wires a holley street dominator sbc aluminum intake manifold and originally a new 1407 Edelbrock performer 750cfm manual choke carburetor, and that eventually got switched to the qjet. New napa 3 core with ac sbc radiator and had the factory th400hd automatic transmission rebuilt and a B&M tork master 3000 stall torque converter more like a 2,100rpm stall torque converter and a stage 2 rv and towing shift improver kit by B&M, and ended up shattering three dr side pushrods destroyed two rocker fulcrums, and cracked one rocker arm and pulled that stud out of the head,, and one other one got bent so, that got swapped out for a older 1995 gm performance 290hp crate 350 993 casting cylinder heads that needed valve stem seals so it smoked like a freight train truck was sitting since 2011 before I got it in the fall of 2007 and I ran in pretty much that configuration almost trouble free minus tune up parts brakes occasionally and the used ignition system finally failed 9 years later but I had the truck 12 and half years and it was a daily driver a rusty dented custom deluxe long bed 4x4 farm truck,,word of advice don't get a 160k mile truck truck running put a cam in it and go bury it in mud i destroy the front factory gm 8 lug 10 bolt 4.11 gear front diff so it almost the whole time I had it was a 1983 gmc high sierra k1500 gm corporate 10 bolt front and gm corporate 12 bolt rear the front end was rebuilt under my factory k20 springs and the gmc had 3.08 gears but I still worked it just like i did the 82 Chevy k20 Silverado 3/4 6.2 to gas 305 H.O . Swapped diesel 4x4 i had the 86 chevy k20 was a great dependable driver and drove ok for a 291k truck

I bought a used car that had the Ziebart treatment which was like the Rusty Jones. They drill holes and spray the insides. Unfortunately the doors all rusted out and door locks, power windows went bad because it clogged the drain holes.

Embarrassing... It took me 3hrs to change headlight bulbs on a 2013 Ford Fusion and 2hrs for a 2017 jeep compass this month. I am 50 and both times I gave the " When I was younger it took me 10-15 minutes" story! I'd rather watch you work on cars than do that again. Thanks for another great video.

83 had the best grill in my opinion. I like the color matching stripe across the grill. Also I'm biased because I had an 83 new. I liked it better than the grill in my 3/4 ton 86 Suburban that replaced the lowered 83 1/2 ton because of kids. Dang kids! LOL.
