Exactly what is done in the AF. Looks like a Blackhawk, any army avionics maintainers in here? I'm curious about what your experience is like

Anyone know if you can get your A&P certification through this MOS ?

Civilian Avionics jobs dont need an A and P really. They want a formal electronics school experience such as that MOS and they will train you . I was able to sit for the Airframe test as a 15g structure mechanic. If you were a 15B engine mechanic you can sit for the powerplant test. Only one license is kinda useless so I had to goto P school in the civilian world. Repairers (15 t etc.) can sit for both A and P . Army knows this and has a three year enlistment for the shop jobs (15g , 15b ) and 4 years for the repairer 15 T, U R jobs. Those usually have a waiting list up to a year. If you want to be an A and P its best just to goto the local community college A and P program. You' ll get out in two years and be working. Also trying to do A and P and the Army is tough. Nightclubs and partying with your buddies is very distracting. I f you like electronics Army Avionics will get you an airline job right out of the service

You should worry more about your FCC license than the A&P.

You won't work that hard. Hard work will be left to the Apache Avionics guys.

All you need is a 40+ in or on the AsVAB test? To qualify for Aviation Mechanic Mate.

I was a 68F Aircraft Electrician 85-92 (now 15F).....I worked with 35Kilos(now 15N) ....Avionics peeps......All they did was swap radios out to see which one worked.....If stuff didn't work...they called upon me.....Go 15F.............be smart....

15F and 15N will eventually be one MOS. Aircraft electrician was a good job and set me up for a good career after getting out.
@stoicismispowerful501 Жыл бұрын
15N and 15F literally do the same jobs. You guys chase wires and we will be more involved in the Aviation scene bc the 15 T Helicopters are switching over to fiber optics and T have no sense of Avionics. Point is the MOS will be phased into one soon. Also we troubleshoot cannon plugs replace pins and wires. Replace radios when not working ics panels blah blah blah. It's pretty much the same thing you guys do. You guys just chase wires more than us.

Truth from the field: - US Army 15 series training for avionics is horrible compared to other services (especially on wire/cable repair) - Your NCOs (Sergeants) are now too restrained from politically correct culture pushed by socialists to be effective mentors and technical trainers. They will not be the technical experts. They will be managers at best. - Promotion will be based on being cool, skin color, diversity quotas/goals, who is sleeping with who, who is drinking buddies with who and who goes to useless non-technical Soldier of the Month boards, BUT NOT TECHNICAL ABILITIES ON THE AIRCRAFT - Senior NCOs are the enemy of aircraft maintenance. They will get in the way with stupid BS taskings like mowing lawns and painting things that don't need to be painted. - Female soldiers (or the mentally ill people who identify as them) will have lower standards and generally suck at EVERYTHING except getting their way by flaunting their femininity. They will get the promotions and award by who they have leverage on. If they're held accountable they just pull the "sexism" card. However, the 5% that are squared away are INCREDIBLE. - You'll be in a small shops platoon at the AVUM and there may only be 3 or 4 of you to handle an entire BN. If you're at the AVIM (support unit that doesn't own aircraft) you'll be doing bitch details and probably not touching aircraft. This is also where the AVUM sends their dirt bags. - After basic training and AIT, you'll still have to get up before the sun and do PT. The Army will push these new physical fitness standards and do little to help you exceed and be comfortable with them. You will be taught nothing about how to work out safely and efficiently with no proper coaching on caloric intake or necessary nutrition. Army food will be enough to support you. - You will not be surrounded by Boyscouts and Girlscouts that love America and generally do good things. The Army is a "lost boys club" - Military service WILL NOT be a perfect journey. - If you can get past all of the things above and latch on to good and morally squared away peers and mentors, you'll have a family like no other and it will be yours for the rest of your days. You'll belong to a brotherhood and fraternity.
