I started model building a very long time ago, yet I was a few years too late to find these iconic Airfix kits in the shops. The only way to obtain these was to pay a "collectors" price. So I very much appreciate these reissues at reasonable prices.

Flew out of Lydd a couple of times with my parents in the mid/late 60s £25/10shillings return to Le touquet with the car and 4 passengers. and then drove down to southern Spain in two days to visit freinds. I now live on the coast at Greatstone virtually off the end of the now disused runway. Still remember watching these approaching the airport from the West from my Uncles house in Rye nearby.

When I got seriously into modelling in the very early 80s, Airfix was a shadow of it's former self after bankruptcy and purchase by General Mills. But I had a 1979 catalogue I had bagged in a playground swap and could see the full extent of what their range used to be and I wanted lots of those subjects. However, finding these kits as a kid with a very limited budget was nigh on impossible. The 'Classics Range' re-releases give me a chance to finally have a crack at some of these models without having to pay collectors prices and I get cartograf decals too! Win win. I didn't think I'd get the chance to build the SRN1 and Bond Bug, but I did and I hope Airfix keep giving us these long lost kits. Fingers crossed for the Cherokee Arrow, Skyvan and Islander once again (Morris Marina and Austin Maxi too please)

@@fightersweep I've seen a few of the bike kits on ebay but they tend to go for silly prices. I built the Ariel, BSA and BMW as a kid and in adult life I've owned a few real BSA C15's, always fancied building the kit to resemble one that I owned.

@@MOS6510Models Well, there was a rumour that the moulds were damaged, but the same was said about the Bond Bug. I did ask the late Darrell Burge several years ago at one of their annual trade launch weekends at Margate (I loved being in the model trade back then) about the old 'Modern Car' moulds over a few beers. He told me that the moulds were accounted for, including the 1980 hot rod conversions, but he didn't think there would be enough interest in re-releases. I tried to argue the point citing the ridiculous prices of the second hand market for those kits, but don't think I got anywhere. However, the thinking must have changed with the Vintage Classic re-releases of the Bond Bug and the Jaguar 420 so there is hope I suppose.

😊I love that the model companies are rereleasing these old kits. I gotten to build a few I never thought I would be able to work on. Round 2, Atlantis , glencoe. These are a few of the companies releasing these kits along with airfix. Yes they are much more of a challenge due to the fact the technology of the time just couldn’t do what we can do today. For me it adds another challenge to the build that I enjoy more than a prefect kit that just falls together. I hope this trend will never end.

Real nostalgia with this one. My parents were big fans of the Belgian seaside town of Ostend. We went on many family holidays to there in the 1960s and 70s and back then you could get there by ferry, hovercraft OR by flying with your car in a Bristol Superfrieghter! ...I'm usually a military model chap but I am really tempted to give this a try. (Sadly, times change and the only way to get to Ostend now is by rail via the Eurostar or to fly by passenger plane).

Hi Moss, I doubt I will buy this, not because its a VC but more because the actual subject doesn't quite float my boat as it were. Would I buy a VC, well I have the Rotadyne, Belvedere, Bristol Fighter, Fokker DR1, Hawker P1127, Sopwith Camel, Westland Whirlwind, so I don't mind an oldie challenge. The problem for all the deriders is that many of these VCs are niche interest subjects and unlikely to appear as modern toolings simply because the market is too small (well I would recon so anyway) so we should be grateful to Airfix that we see them at all. Keep it up Airfix, lets have a few more. Moss, have you tried any "light sanding" techniques to reduce the rivet prominence? I haven't but it might be interesting to try.

I have massive respect for your builing skills and your opinion. However I sometimes think you miss why a lot of people have come back to our hobby. I'm in my 60s and back to modeling fiveyears ago. When airfix re-release kits like the one in your video I'm immediately placing an order happy in the knowledge that in all liklihood it will be a challenge. BUT if offers nostalgia and FUN. My finished kit will be full of flawes......but I don;t care because I will have enjoyed the build. Keep the vids coming

Thats my argument about vintage classics.. people shove their nose at them but they have a place for those who like nostalgia and want a challenge.. There is so much hate for the vintage classics and i defend them.. ive built loads of them too.. but sometimes they dont inspire me to build them. If you listen to the video you will hear me defend airfix re-releaseing them :)

£25 for new decals on a 65 year old model that paid for itself many, many years ago. £25 for a model you have to wrestle with to have an acceptable result? I know Airfix will sell these, I was tempted, but Airfix know that people will buy and they take advantage of it. Even knock a fiver off and produce more kits, I reckon they’d sell even more. I know Airfix’s hands are tied somewhat by Hornby and their loses too. I see Hornby are selling off Oxford Miniatures so that may help the Hornby brand overall (hopefully Airfix in particular ! 💪) and allow Oxford to have more control over their business. Great channel Mos, of the best channels, I listen regularly but don’t always comment😊👍🏼🫡 Ian

@ Hi Mos, I’m afraid I’ve got to disagree with you on this one.😟 A 65 year old model that’s paid for itself a number of times over and needs a lot of work just is not worth 25 quid. The price of decals has also a huge mark up too even if they’re Cartograph. You often correctly defend Airfix when some people are just ‘hating’ for hates sake but I think they’ve messed up on this one. But I do think a lot of problems lies on the Hornby side. I won’t be at Telford as it always falls on Remembrance Weekend and I’m quite busy. But I’d love to go sometime ! Anyway, you’ve a great channel and I’m not falling out with anyone over a fun hobby that we share☺️ Yours, Ian

Being honest, I think they over price these vintage classics, given they recovered all the tooling costs (assumed) over the previous issues then charging £25 for this when you compare a similarly priced kit from other manufacturers makes it really poor value. This is a niche subject and I can’t see it flying off the shelves at that price.

Without the Vintage Classics you wouldn't have ANY new, over complicated kits with a bazillion parts and a price in the stratosphere. The decals alone on this re-issue would set you back a fair whack. There's a huge chunk of plastic in this kit as well, and from memory the fit was pretty decent too. Plenty of scope for a 'modeller' if they wish to add to it, or not.
