Many Moscow residents who spoke to RFE/RL did not shy away from calling the Russian invasion of Ukraine a "war" -- a term banned in Russia by law. "Sincerity is a problem in Russia these days," said one person.

Interesting how they always talk about Donbas, totally neglecting the fact that it was also Russian artillery which shelled Ukrainian villages. My thoughts exactly! I mean all the pro Russians saying "what about Donbass shelling" are basically telling a lie by omission. According to the Minsk accord, which Russia signed, ALL military personell and weaponry was supposed to be withdrawn. Basically a demilitarization. Yet I hear Ukrainians were fighting separatists pre 2022. How is that possible? If the Donbass area was really demilitarized, Ukraine would have conquered that area within a day. Just like when Russian troops appeared on Crimea and took over everything over night. The fact that they were fighting means it was not demilitarized. Thus Russia broke their agreements. Therefore "what about Donbass shelling" is simply not a legitimate question.

I hate this war so much, but one does have to understand there is a certain amount of truth to the statements about Donbas. Some Ukrainians living there are in fear of the Ukrainian military, which does quite untargeted shelling, which I hear from my friends who live there. I wish this was not the case, but to move forward, we do have to understand everyone.
@renemagritte8237
@renemagritte8237 Жыл бұрын
@@prbprb2 You know, IMAO the problem is not an untargeted shelling from this side or another but the shelling as such. In this unnecessary war there are casualties because it's what a war is about: killing, destruction, deliberate or incidental collateral damages. you name it. All this is unavoidable and when the mayhem started it cannot be controlled or stopped. . So I would ask your friends (if I were you) why Ukrainians had to shell someone or something in the first place? We shouldn't forget; Ukrainian soldiers were Ukrainian citizens, Donbas was Ukrainian territory, Inhabitants of Donbas were Ukrainian citizens as well regardless what language they have spoken. And no one single shot was fired in Donbas till 13th of April 2014. So when we want to speak about Ukrainians shelling Donbas, we should in my opinion ask who created this conflict and made the shelling necessary. And who was the intended target and why. Otherwise it is very easy to make a fatal error and speak of "both sides" where we have at least four of them.

@@madamesaundere It doesn’t exist? You must be living in some fairy land. Russia has been influencing all of the former Republics since the day the union broke up. What did you think this war was about? This is about Ukraine abandoning its union with Russia just when Russia is trying to rebuild the old “empire”. It was exactly why Russia fought Chechnya and Georgia. It’s exactly why Armenia and Azerbaijan are at war now. All attempts to get back to the Cold War positions when the two powers were the US and the USSR. There is still also an official military alliance in place - CSTO. But more to the point: Despite the name changes to their KGB organizations, they continue to be in place, controlling their own citizens. A very significant portion of Russia’s (and its allies’) GDP goes to support that system of oppression. The Rosgvardya (national guard) alone number 340,000! They exist almost exclusively to control Russian citizens. Third world nations simply don’t have that level of organization, funding or worry about their citizens’ opinions.

One question I have is what were the actual percentages of people you questioned for vs against the war in Ukraine? I am amazed people will speak out like this on camera. It seems obvious that Putin is loosing his grip, to a great extent. And you can bet your bottom dollar in a video like this that there are people who will answer that they support the war when they do not, in many cases. The one that basically said "dangerous to answer, read between the lines" was the slightly braver side of no comment, and you know he is not for the war, anyway, or he would answer the party line. This would have been a good statistic to include, since I could easily go out and show all for or all against in editing, so what this says is that there are at least a handful of people willing to go on permanent record that they oppose the war, and fewer that weren't, but really nothing else.

The Muscovites are no different than Americans. Some are aghast and some support whatever the government says. The US has the same response during the Vietnam War and the Cheney War in Iraq.

The circumstances were different Communist China was supplying North Vietnam with weapons in the 1950s long before the US was involved so it was like Korea a civil war with the North supported by China , in Iraq Saddam invaded Kuwait the UN told him to get out and he said come and get me I dare you, General Shinseki told bonehead Bush/Cheney to send 175,000 instead Cheney made his own plans screwed up and Shinseki resigned our intention were not to permanently occupy the country, get in and get out Russia wants to eliminate Ukraine

But russians have no will and desire to change their mind, I'm not saying about changing government.

@@wanderer2246 when the Soviet Union went bankrupt Russian wealth should have been inherited by the Russians that fought for the country not a handful of oligarchs that live in London so it must be depressing , a lot of people thought Russia would become a democracy and join the EU instead we got what's behind curtain number 3 another iron curtian, but hey the US is screwed up too our government sends over 800 billion a year on the military and nothing on rebuilding our crumbling industrial sector cities like Detroit look more bombed out than Ukraine and states like Mississippi look like a third world country

0:37 There's our hero, fighting the good fight. Famous Psychologist Yung would say 'good for him for finding his purpose in life....even if it is ultimately flawed'. So this was a reference to people in the west who feel depressed without purpose! Putin gave this man a purpose, albite a wrong one...
