You did well at the record fair Rob, especially with the Tir Na Nog album which is quite excellent. And it's nice to see a Bonzo's album being shown - don't see them mentioned much on the VC - I'm a big fan. Sorry to hear about your mum, I Hooe she makes a full recovery very soon. All the best... Pete

Hi Rob. Love the 'Gorilla' album - I listened to it quite recently and it's great fun. Ha ha, Ragtime, who can forget that. I just looked up Fred Harris, and he's still with us I'm glad to see. I've been listening to a lot of Joni this year...I like her records overall but they all seem to lose me a little bit towards the last third. I haven't heard Clouds yet. Haven't heard Knilsson either.

Glad you remember Ragtime James, seems many do not. Some of the voices Fred Harris does are hilarious, would have the ridiculous WOKE brigade foaming at the gills. ha ha!!. Highly recommend you listen to Knnillsson, it's a great album..can't see what all the fuss is regarding his vocals, a little more understated perhaps, but still classic Harry.

Oh, good haul! That Tir Na Nog, really in good nick considering it is a mostly white 53 year old album cover! 😲
@robison53964 ай бұрын
Thanks Morten Yes, i was really surprised at the condition given that many vintage white sleeved album jackets can usually be quite dirty if they've not been kept in plastic sleeves.

Tir Na Nog's "Looking Up" got a bit of FM radio play in my part of the world, although I seem to remember something about it being a different version from the one on that LP. Clouds is my favorite of Joni's early albums.
@robison53964 ай бұрын
Thanks Michael The Tir Na Nig is wonderful and more interesting than I expected. Clouds completes my 60s and 70s Joni collection. Chelsea Morning is fabulous.

I don't remember Ragtime but definitely recall PlayAway. I'm still on the look out for a Mary Mungo and Midge LP. Very nice Bonzos Mono copy and the Joni. Sunny here in the north east but not particularly hot. Hope your mum gets better soon!
@robison53964 ай бұрын
Thanks John I don't think Ragtime ran as long as PlayAway, so possibly why it's not as well known...Yes, I would love to find Mary, Mungo and Midge..I think the music was originally issued on one of those rare KPM music library albums, I've tried looking for a reissue but to no avail.

Hi Rob. Tir Na Nog was a good find. You don't see their records very often. I think they reformed for awhile a few years ago ... Now we're talking. I adore the Bonzos. That was a great price ... Joni Mitchell's artwork for 'Clouds' is stunning. She could have had a career as an artist.

Cheers Carl Yes, I was delighted to find the Tir Na Nog, only one of theirs I've ever seen. Joni is crazy talented.

I've heard of Tir na Nog. Dunno. Fred Harris was a legend! Some things just stay with you from childhood. Love loads of those kids programmes even now along with lots of out of date comedy. There was just last few weeks a Joni Mitchell documentary on Radio 4 I'm sure it'll be there it stirred my interest in her as previously they've been sitting, waiting to be dived into. She's very wordy now I like poetry and words but seemed a little OTT well now I know some background maybe more palatable. I've a week off A/L now so hopefully a chance to have some listening time to myself, with hayfever I'd rather stay in a bit anyway. Cheers Rob.

Thanks Martin Highly recommend Tir Na Nog, wonderfully melodic progressive folk..excellent. Yes, the kids TV programmes are so nostalgic for me, never fails to make me smile and help me forget about the rotten stinking world we live in. Hope you enjoy your weekend off and get to have a thorough chill..music listening en masse is essential!.

A quiet week Rob with records flowing in? Being up in the attic how hot does it get up there? Congrats on completing your Mitchell collection!

There's plenty of ventilation with windows on both sides..I do worry about potential warpage in the summer, so keep curtains closed and the windows open...the floorboards holding the weight of over 1000 records is also a concern!.

Nice finds Rob. My favourite Tir na Nog album. I would definitely have grabbed Ragtime too (it's added to the mental want list). I really like that Nilsson album, he sounds pretty good on it despite it being recorded after he'd wrecked his vocal chords. Cheers Dale
@robison53964 ай бұрын
It's weird how Knillsson has such a bad reputation..I don't think his vocals are bad at all, quite the opposite infact and the arrangements on that album are just superb. So many of those kids TV records I would love to pick up like Mary Mungo and Midge, the Trumptonshire trilogy and Rainbow. Cheers Dale, hope you have a good week .

I vaguely recall Ragtime but i do remember Fred,he was a stalwart of BBC childrens television. I'm certain i came across a Playschool LP a while ago 🤔🤔🤔

Cheers Nick Fred does some less than politically correct voices on the album that would definitely upset the WOKE brigade..ha ha 🤣.

Hi Rob. Sorry to hear anout your Mother's situation. We're going through a similar thing with Lou's Mum at the moment. I've not got any Tír na nÓg on vinyl. Ive not come across their albums at half price. The fabulous Ben Costello was kind enonugh to send me a Sonny Condell solo album and the first album by his other group, Scullion. Good stuff. I've got that Nilsson album, but to be honest I was rather disappointed when I first played it. Maybe I'll pull it out and give it another go. Cheers - Hedley
@robison53964 ай бұрын
Thanks Hedley The last couple of weeks have been pretty awful for mum, but we have a Doctor on house call tomorrow, so fingers xed she will get the treatment she needs. I love Knnilsson, I think his voice is pretty good considering it was meant to be shot prior to the recording.
