I really appreciate Kishan's statements towards the end of the episode empowering people to speak up and how it's annoying that society still loves labelling people by things like race or sexual orientation when that shouldnt be the case

5:30 As they always say, 50 Shades of Grey is a love story because the guy is rich. If the guy stay HDB, then it would be an episode of Crimewatch
@LittleStrawbirdy4 жыл бұрын
Hmm, to offer a different POV - it's not that it would be an episode of Crimewatch *just because* the guy is poor/unattractive but rather, in the 50 Shades of Grey situation - the woman is clearly attracted to the rich guy and he happens to be her secret fantasy kind of guy, it's just that she's naive and new to sex. It's a love story *because* it is written to be one. It's essentially porn for women who like that kind of grey area/blurry line stuff in their fantasies (key point being fantasies). Just like how in mainstream porn, there's always sexy plumber/babysitter/teacher/student porn, etc - these obviously don't play out in real life & if it did, it'd be a Crimewatch episode too.

I feel like the "If a good looking guy does it, it's not sexual harassment" argument always comes up but let me just share my perspective - It's not "creepy" nor sexual harassment because if an attractive guy does it, then the attraction is more likely mutual (only in instances where it *is* mutual; of course not 100% of the time women will fancy such advances made on them no matter how handsome the guy is) & the woman reciprocates the man's advances, e.g. wants to sleep with him too. Also, when women (or men) calls a person "creepy" it's not so much the action that is creepy (Or else, this would mean that letting your partner touch your butt but not a random stranger touch your butt is considered a double standard, which it is not) but the vibe they give off before & after the action - E.g. a woman gets asked for her number by a guy in a respectful way - not creepy. If she gets asked for her number by a guy who kept staring at her & leering & whistling at her - creepy. But people always misunderstand this as, "Oh, so if a handsome guy asks for your number, it's not creepy?" without understanding the nuances. Anyway, to re-emphasise my points - It doesn't mean that everything an unattractive person does is considered "creepy". A handsome guy can be considered "creepy" too. Also... I VOLUNTEER TO TOUCH JADE!
@encesolezera5064 жыл бұрын
louder for the girls who thinks attractive guys are allowed to commit sexual harassment. its like they close one eyes on them. idk why. sexual harassment is sexual harassment no matter how the the person looks.

Totally agree! And not just out in public places / social hangouts, i feel that another point to bring up is when the situation occurs at your office/company. In this case, it may not go to 'direct' sexual harassment, but more like general discomfort towards a certain person, be it whether they are good looking or not. To me, my creep-o-meter goes up when someone like that is around. It is harder to tell when someone is a creep as they are being their 'work' selves, and only during occasional social/informal gatherings, their true selves may creep out (pun intended), and that's when i was shocked and doubtful because I thought they weren't like that during the (however long) period I got to know them. Not really sure what my point is but just a scenario that i experienced in my workplace. I guess its just to warn people that's how creeps creep up to you in the workplace, it will always be actions and words towards me that makes that person a creep to me, whether they are good looking or not. Their true selves will always reveal themselves and i guess that you have to be careful, especially at a place where you have to deal with them long term. :/ I have so much more to say about warning signs but i can't really organize my thoughts and experience at the moment... What the hosts said is right, ALWAYS trust your instincts!!
@RonLarhz4 жыл бұрын
And that includes lesbians and gays... I'm les, can vouch. Had a hot-ish person creepily grab my ass in a crowd. If she had approached normally, maybe got chance. But super NOPE when it's unwanted/consentless. The only relieve i had was discovering it's at least a female and not a male.
@Eiav.k4 жыл бұрын
But more often than not it really comes down to bias , and most of the times people who are not considered good looking get bashed on . If you're good looking , you already have a good impression without having to converse or introduce yourself to anyone. It just can't be helped .

Love how the topics are something people are not open to talk about. Watching this helps people who experienced such things to understand what happened to them, accept that our feelings are legit and share how we can felt regarding such issues.

If I’m not wrong for the gym case. The trainer who filmed it actually did approach the victim and talked about it before posting it. She also asked the victim for permission to share this story with everyone. The purpose of the video was to let girls know that this is not normal and not be afraid to ask for help or call these people out.

The recent voyeurism case at Ntu Hall 14 and the different reactions compared to the Monica Baey case last year, it's quite disappointing. The Hall 14 case was a guy on guy crime and the comments made it look less serious when it wasn't :(

I think a good rule of thumb is if it's: 1. unwanted 2. and uninvited Then it can be considered sexual harassment. Of course this isn't a be all end all, but generally if intimate contact falls into both of those categories it's safe to assume it's harassment

Tbh I don't think looks change the harassment aspect. If someone is being creepy and their action / behaviour is putting you off it's harassment. I wouldn't feel flattered if it was someone that's hot but not my type (or if I'm not in the mood) shoot suggestive comments / actions at me, I'll be similarly angry. The 'hot people get away with it' stereotype is probably because there's a higher chance of mutual appreciation hitting off so the women/men did not feel uncomfortable / creeped out. Objectively speaking I had a prof who didn't look half that bad but he was always being inappropriate around female students (he's married!! ugh) and we all think he's creepy (we used to find him attractive before we saw his true colours). Also welcome back Jade!!

Hi there Real Talk. You guys have inspired me to make a show that also speaks about certain issues in an open and entertaining manner. But I have a few things that I REALLY would like to share with you guys. First and foremost, the first season of Real Talk was extremely entertaining with the original four, Jade, Dew, John and Saff. Saff and her Holoq Holoq, Jade and her wealth of experience and information, Dew and John as the cherry atop the icing. The first season was awesome. Now, I also too love the Second Season. Kishan, bro, keep being the gel that binds all the information of all the new members of Real Talk. Good job team. Really love the effort.

There used to be many creeps near my school (girls school) like flashers and molesters. In our school, we wear shirt, shorts,(p.e. attire) and a pinafore over. We were told one time this girl was walking home after school, and she wasnt wearing her pinafore, just pe shirt and shorts. Then someone asked the student for directions and when she was looking at the map, the person pulled her pe shorts down and ran away. So now, it is a rule that we have to put on our pinafore before leaving the school. Some students gave their opinion that we can put "sexual harrasment is illegal" posters around but that didnt happen. So some girls "rebelled" and left the school without their pinafore, got caught and punished. The school is very sensitive about these things but even now, there are still creeps lurking near the school. This is so nice.....

Singapore penal code that recognises what is harassment isn’t comprehensive, so most sexual harassment cases have not enough grounds for the police to make an arrest. But let’s say you do call the police and you tell them that you feel threatened, the police will arrest the perpetrator, but it’s up to the court to finally decide whether the person is guilty. That is for police cases. But what if you don’t have evidence or you don’t call the police immediately? Then it’s a civil case and you have to actually find a lawyer and then go to the court and get a protection order, which is not easy to get. My point is that the law set against sexual harassment is so LACKING and getting justice is so hard which should not be. We have to create a culture to speak up whenever you feel sexually harassed and feel uncomfortable. This is not a call out culture, it’s different, it’s to build courage and rationality. We should also start building a culture of correction, NOT condemnation. And that also depends on the perpetrator, are you open to being corrected? Or are you so defensive that you don’t want to admit that although you may not have bad intentions, your actions had bad reactions.

i think it's simply consent when it comes to sexual harassment. If you want to be touched so be it..that's fine. If you don't wanna get touched and the person still touches you, yeah that is definite harassment. the severity depends on where you have been touched. Just respect the person. period.
