My head-canon: Dr Wu was always deceitful, he knew they could breed. Parthenogenesis is well documented in birds and other reptiles.

I think the new films might've hinted that. Like he had anterior motives all along. Not too sure though, don't take my word for it.

@@Foreign0817 Maybe, perhaps it wasn’t hinted, but the fact he had ulterior motives in the new movies definitely shows he’s capable of having ulterior motives.
@sasaki999pro2 жыл бұрын
The book version of Henry Wu was incredibly arrogant, he didn't really care about "Making dinosaurs" as much as he cared about shaping life as a whole, a literal god complex. He challenged Hammond that the dinosaurs he had weren't really "dinosaurs" just animals shaped to imitate dinosaurs, he wanted to push the boundaries of genetic engineering and make the perfect organism, when he found out the raptors could breed, he wasn't concerned, he was impressed with himself, he had made an organism so well crafted that it could replicate itself, "perfect" in his eyes, this was the height of his hubris before his immediate downfall. Totally a great read.

- Hammond and InGen are actually the ones that were funding Grant and Sattlers dig to begin with and why they were there, so the look of "John Hammond? oh shit" was more of "OH SHIT! THIS GUYS OUR BOSS!!" type of thing. - Indeed it is more of a Deinonychus, because Crichton thought Deinonychus sounded silly, so he changed the name to Velociraptor, which lets all admit, DOES sound better. This is a subject i constantly have to correct people on. - Also, per the fence climbing bit, ever notice that when Grant is telling Tim to jump, you can actually see the fence END at the top of the screen? like, yeah i get its a filming set limitation type of thing, but still immersion breaking. As for Tim getting shocked, yeah no, when we get electrocuted like that, our muscles tense up. If that fence has a constant current going through it, Tims hands should have CLAMPED down on that wire, and he quite literally would have burst into flames. But, kid, movie. - 34:16 no, not that glass. Remember at the beginning they went on the facility tour with Mr DNA and the viewing gallery that looked into the lab, there was a brief moment where you could see the viewing gallery show the control room theyre now in. So after the door locked the Raptor obviously noticed that it couldnt get through the door so went around into that tour room and was breaking through the big glass pane from the viewing gallery. They show a brief shot of the shotgun slug holes in the glass pane and can see the gallery seats behind it, and you could then also see the glasses frame behind the Raptor right after it breaks through and Grant kicks the ladder over. Very small details that you need to actually be looking for to notice, but, there you go :) Ive seen this movie easily over a hundred times, i NEVER get tired of watching it, is and will be my all time favourite, and can quote it from start to finish, but when you love something so much, you should be able to critique and notice its flaws, of which yes there are clearly some, but its easy to over look it. It is still what i would call a masterpiece in the film industry, not to mention how INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT it was for the future of CGI, but its pacing and build up to the actual climax is perfection as well, you literally dont even notice the first hour going by without ANYTHING actually happening! You cant say that about most movies.

It isn't the electricity itself that throws someone back. It courses through the muscles, causing them to spasm in an unpredictable way. This is what throws them back.
@Alteori2 жыл бұрын
ohhhhhhhhhhhhh ok. I guess that makes sense
@ThomasThePanzerTank2 жыл бұрын
Worked as a medical technician/firefighter for a couple of years and can say it's more dramatized. While the body does create spasms most of that translates into stiff ness or the body becomes completely limp. Most times when people come into contact with an extremely high amount of electricity there isn't this huge spark and the body immediately stops functioning. Not to be morbid or make light of it but the body goes into a complete ragdoll state. I don't think a realistic depiction of an electrocution would've been appropriate or translate well to the audience as most would be questioning, "Wtf just happened?" If he just dropped.
@tiagotiagot2 жыл бұрын
@@ThomasThePanzerTank I've read of people that had their hearts stopped by the electric shock, but the jolt going thru their muscles made them jump so hard that when they hit the ground or a wall or something of the sort, the impact restarted their hearts.
@ThomasThePanzerTank2 жыл бұрын
@@tiagotiagot there is something called a “precordial thump” that was practiced for a while but was disproved to aid in patient survival during cardiac arrest compared to normal compressions/breaths. Basically the first responder would bring their fist down on the patient in attempts to interrupt the unstable rhythm so if you’ve ever seen somebody punch somebody in the chest in movies/tv as the character goes into cardiac arrest that’s what they’re doing. Now the reason why it’s no longer practiced is because most times, for it to be effective at all, it had to be extremely early (within like milliseconds) upon the initial onset and the strike has to be perfectly placed on the sternum. 99% of the time the process wastes a couple of seconds where CPR/Breaths could’ve been started and miles more effective. So I suppose the impact from falling may have the same effect as the precordial thump, but it’s very unlikely. You’d have to land a very certain way and a bunch of other variables would have to be perfect. Do I believe it has happened on a few rare occasions, of course. But like I said a ton of variables and luck would have to be going your way if that were to happen.

This movie solidified my fear of dinosaurs. The most vivid memory of this movie I had as an eight year old after I had just watched it, was the T-Rex. I knew about dinosaurs as a kid but nobody told me they were extinct. So I kept getting terrified at night, thinking that a T-Rex would look into my second story bedroom window, snatch me out of my bed and eat me. So for the next few years I couldn’t sleep with my bed in view of my window.

While in retrospect Lex messing around with the flashlight was indeed stupid, I can imagine a plausible explanation; she's freaking out, looking for something, anything, that might help keep them safe, then she stumbles upon a device and suddenly her attention is dragged away from it and towards the incoming threat, and a small part of her brain is unconsciously still processing the fact that she grabbed some sort of tool to try to save herself, and with limited processing power and awareness, a section of her brain just goes on with the plan of using whatever it is to try to save her life despite not having the whole brain available to fully process what she's doing. Kinda reminds me of this time when I was a kid and I was having lunch with my family, distracted with the conversation, I had just served my plate, my glass was still empty, there was the juice, sugar, keptchup, salt etc on the table; and as I was focusing on the conversation I was just automatically finishing up getting set up to eat, and instead of sugar I grabbed the bottle of ketchup and squeeze a huge dollop into my glass instead of on top of my noodles, the wires about the intention of putting sugar on the glass and ketchup on my plate got crossed and I performed the right action with the wrong thing...
@SImrobert20012 жыл бұрын
I think part of the problem is that while people understand fear, they do not understand *terror.* Like, I volunteered at a children's hospital, and there is a complete difference between someone who is completely panicked and someone sitting in a corner not knowing if their tests are going to come out normal or not. What LEx experienced was akin to something FAR beyond what even I have seen. She's against a massive, 2 story predator that is 40 feet long. They are both looking for items that could help. She likely just hit the button the flashlight and not even realizing what it was. That kind of terror can absolutely lock a brain so it doesn't process new information. Like, I could totally see her not able to process what button the turns on and off the flashlight. Heck, there are times when i've been trying to move a switch, only to find out the flashlight was a twist model. That kind of terror is something people never usually experience for more than a few seconds at a time. Its usually seen in war, and as a result, most people won't understand it.
@timothymcintire5747 Жыл бұрын
Yes exactly, at some point I believe Alteori allows her bias to look past such facts. Survival isn't some hard program code where you automatically chose the best or rational action. Also, I take issue with her raging about not squeezing through the fence. I never thought of squeezing through the fence as a kid, and I don't think it's a hot idea as an adult. For one thing sticking together as a group, because what if a carnivore appears on the other side with the kids while Alan is still climbing? Another thing is the risk of getting caught in the fence it looks like they COULD fit but is the risk of being stuck in an electric fence worth it?

I love this movie, but I've gotta wonder how Spielberg pitched this movie idea to the studio, because it was such a massive undertaking and it took crazy amounts of robotics and CGI to get the dinosaurs to look so real, i like to think the studio literally didn't understand what he was telling them at the pitch meeting and just went with it anyway because of his track record, like; Spielberg: I want to adapt this book "Jurassic Park" it's about this island of prehistoric monsters and animals that's being opened up as a tourist spot, but there's a deadly turn of events when the animals get free and start attacking guests. Studio Exec: any idea on the cast? Spielberg: I'm thinking Laura Dern, Richard Attenborough, Jeff Goldblum and this Australian actor i've seen pop up in a few things recently as the male lead for the cast. Studio Exec: I guess we could make a movie about Tourists trying to survive, and Australia is pretty popular. Spielberg: Australia? oh right, yeah, it's just a shame there are no Dinosaurs, just crocodiles. Studio Exec: Dinosaurs? oh, right yeah, great monsters if you can make them look real - alright - well, you've got your greenlight buddy. *1yr later* Studio Exec: Steven.... WTF is this?! I mean, it's awesome, but i thought you said you were making a movie about tourists in Australia being attacked by crocodiles! I told everyone you were making it! i'm gonna look like an asshole!! Spielberg: what? where'd you get that idea, i clearly told you this was about an island of prehistoric monsters and animals opening up for tourists but people get killed by the.... ohhh..... ohhhhhhhh yeah, yeah.... i see the problem....

Next comes 3 then World and Fallen Kingdom. Anyway, that sums up the plot of the whole of Jurassic Park. Off topic: Happy Thanksgiving/late Thanksgiving, Alteori. Anyway, another great video,

The one thing you can give this film credit for, besides being a success at the box office, is its iconic theme. And to this very day. The title card JURASSIC PARK and the background music give me chilling goosebumps.

How convenient. I watch Alteori's review on Classic Jurassic Park, and I get an ad for the new Jurassic World.

I will always love the Jurassic park/world movies no matter how many times I watch them. They make me feel like a kid again when I use to watch them on vhs. Great video. If you want to watch a good monster movie try prophecy, it was made it 1978. it’s about a deformed bear going on a killing spree.

electricity can absolutely throw you back. But it depends on the type, AC or DC and how much oomph is behind it. A fence designed to keep dinos in would definitely be enough to toss a child. He's lucky he still had hands afterwards.

And honestly, arms and legs at the amperage needed for the fence.

unfortunately, there's also the issue with DNA degrading over time. There wouldn't be enough left, even stuck in amber, for there to be anything at all left to clone. the Mammoths are about as far back as we can reach using this method.

Ah yes, the movie that sparked my love for dinosaurs. 100% one of my favorite movies of all time! I think I subscribed to you for your Jurassic World/Park content, and I continue to watch your videos to this day because *holy shit you are funny!* Like at 3:15 I didn’t just laugh, I fucking cackled! Your laugh is so contagious man! Also, a bit off topic, but apparently romance has been confirmed for Camp Cretaceous season 4. I’m seeing mixed opinions and a lot of skepticism, which is understandable, but i’d love to hear your thoughts on it! Anyways, keep up the good work! Love your content Alteori!!

I have to go back and watch all these movies before Dominion 🦖🦕

I was 8 when the first movie came out, didn’t go to see it in theatres, can’t remember when i first saw it. I did go to see TLW and JP3 in theatres, i didn’t go to see JW as my nephew was born on that same day, and in the following weeks it just slipped my mind. I did go to see FK though, and yes, i got tears in my eyes when that last brachiosaurus died when Nublar went Chernobyl. Will probably go see Dominion in theatres too, not sure yet. I agree with you about some of the dumb decisions made by humans in this first movie, i mean, if they’d secured that crate to the gate’s frame, that raptor would not have got it’s Red Shirt snack. And Camp Cretaceous season 4 is next friday, it’s gonna be fun. And yeah, i still love the theme for this movie, it’s right up there with Imperial March and the Emperor’s theme.

Love the OG Jurassic Park. I was like, 12 or 13 and had already read the book and was stoked for the movie. I was that dinosaur kid. Lol

It’s crazy how so many movies with modern technology look worse than a movie nearly 30 years old. This classic shows how good special effects can make or break immersion.

The shot where Hammond has the phone in his hand near the end; "Nooooooooo!" Sorry, but the way you shouted that had me in hysterics, and I'm not exactly sure why but it did. 😂

I was truly moved as I sat in the theater. _Jurassic Park_ sparked a sense of wonder in my soul. This is the movie which showed the rest of the world that computer graphics had advanced to the point that they could render realistic living creatures. Almost 30 years later, we're still tweaking our computers to make renders better, but the astronomical leap they made in this film won't be duplicated. _JP_ is one of those films which changed everything about film making afterward. It's right there with _The Jazz Singer_ for introducing sound and _The Wizard of Oz_ for introducing color. I also read the book, and Hammond was a bastard in the book. No "sweet old crazy rich grandpa" vibes there. In the book, the kids' ages were switched (making Tim the older sibling) and Tim was the hacker. Lexi was there -- to scream and cry to be rescued. Yeah. She was completely useless in the book.
