I believe that the "Morse Code" up and down switch was used for air-to-air and air-to-ground communication when radio silence was required.

17:20 - the upward facing morse light... The mozzy was primarily used as a very long range recon aircraft, without bombs or lots of gun ammo it could get deep into Germany and back - recon did this ALONE and at fairly low level. It used its mega speed to run from anything Germany had at the time to get back to blighty. If a single twin engined aircraft is flying across the channel, the upward lamp can identify you as a friendly. ... I know this is a very old video, but matrix has a mission on Monday and I thought I'd make sure I remembered how to fly the thing before I do an oopsie.

With such detailed tutorials, I recon I could nick a plane!

if you devoted your life to it, that dream could come true, you would be the only person , probably ever, to steal a Misquote airplane, certainly you would be the only one to do so in the 21st Century

@@jefferynelson not that there’s too many to nick nowadays. The strength of the Mosquito is also it’s Achilles’ Heel. The wood has all decayed away in post-war storage.

At 12 minutes 30secs approx you mention the button for the jettison of containers. Not cluster bombs definitely but I think it might be what was called "Window" which were small slivers of the metallic strip that was dispensed from containers when released. As it fell it blossomed into a massive cloud that confused German radar operators into thinking there was a mass bombing raid heading in that direction at that position when it was in fact just a couple of mosquitos. Mossies were often sent on "Windows Missions" to draw the German defensive fighters up to intercept and were well gone before the fighters even got near. This had the effect of leaving gaps in the defensive german line, which actual bombing raids took advantage of. If you are really into the "mossie" a good book to read is John "Cats Eyes" Cunningham, the aviation legend by a guy named John Golley, and you will find all of this info and loads more in it.

Throttle friction does work on the Mosquito and has saved me a couple of bumped throttle moments. I have it bound to the WinWing tension adjuster axis, and on full forward it locks the throttles in the game so that, even if I bump my throttles with my chair arm, they won't surge forward in the game.

I have been playing around with the navigation equipment after watching Reflected Simulations recent video tutorial on it. Its great stuff. The main issue that I have is that as a VR player, it is a major problem trying to access the radios. I can easily switch seats (that works well even in VR), but the you need to do a 180 degree swivel to face the radios. As my flight stick is between my legs, this turns into a contortionists nightmare. It could really do with a rear facing option for the navigators seat. Fantastic plane though, and I am really looking forward to the new campaign by Reflected Sim.

Feathering the proppeller makes the blades rotate so they are facing into the wind, reducing drag significantly.

the Radio modeling is AWESOME!!!!!! and I'm sure you learned by now that you need the Inductance and reactance to tune the transmitter so the power actually goes out the antenna with the highest possible efficiency, rather than just warming the wires.

I think the red tipped lever next to the pilot’s left leg was for seat height adjustment.

Mossies would use incendiaries when they were acting as pathfinders for the larger bombers. They'd mark the targets and set them alight so that the Lancasters had something to aim for.
@johnbradshaw7525
@johnbradshaw7525 3 жыл бұрын
The Fighter Bomber version of the Mosquito wouldn’t be used as a pathfinder aircraft. The pathfinder Mosquito would have been the bomber version fitted with the Oboe blind bombing system. They would have been carrying target marker bombs rather than incendiary bombs. They would often have carried 4 x 250lb target indicator (T.I) bombs dropped from high altitude using the Oboe blind bombing system. The mosquito’s TI bombs would have been, for example, red. Mosquito Fighters would have flown intruder missions to protect the bomber stream from German night fighters.

@@johnbradshaw7525 Thank you for the clarification. I didn't realise the marker bombs were that big. Did the Mosquito end up as the main defensive fighter for the big night raids?

@@trolleriffic in 1943 they used Beaufighters as well as Mossies for intruder missions. The Mossie would then replace the Beaufighter on Intruder missions.

@@trolleriffic I have read that there was a 4000lb target indicator bomb called the pink pansy. It was filled with Benzol, rubber and phosphorus. It was used in 1942 in a raid on Dusseldorf.
@johnbradshaw7525
@johnbradshaw7525 3 жыл бұрын
@@trolleriffic The Mosquito would drop the initial target indicator bombs which would be seen as spots of colour at the aiming point on the target. Then further aircraft of the Pathfinder Force would drop flares and further target indicator bombs of a different colour from that of the Mosquito target indicators. If the target was obscured by haze or cloud, they would drop sky markers, which were target indicators on parachutes, that the bombers would aim at. Also on some large scale raids such as raid in August 1943 on the German Rocket Research base in Peenemünde, a Master Bomber would be used. The Master Bomber would be in contact with the bombers of the pathfinder force and the main force. He would then correct the aiming points if the bombs were going off target and generally co-ordinate the attack by getting more flares and marker bombs dropped by the Pathfinder force.
