I went to high school with his grandson Brian. He took me to this shop several times. There were tons of pictures on the wall... Basically a who's who of famous musicians. Brian was a good person and he is remembered. I've never enjoyed a new years eve party since 1993-94!

The schoolhouse factory was destroyed by a fire on 22 NOV 83. 20 years to the day from the Kennedy assassination. Semie moved to Jonas Ridge ca. '81 so the time frame would be early '80s that this segment was filmed.

I have to admit that I have never been a fan of Mosrite guitars because of the shape and the 60’s vibe but after watching this... I am a fan of the builder of Mosrite guitars. He was a good man and his work is to be respected. I am now a Mosrite fan.

He honestly seems like the kind of man who would have been spending time in Bible Studies with my Grandma and many others on a Sunday. I saved a few photos of the first guitar neck he built when he was 13, and it has a cross inlaid in the headstock.

I have an original Mosrite and love to play it. I bought it in 1967 in San Diego. I’ve played most years since then. I have 33 guitars including a pedal steel. The Mosrite is a favorite.

I love Mosrite. The album and the music playing by The Ventures was not played on Mosrite guitars. That album they were still using Fender. I believe the first album by them to use Mosrite was Walk Dont Run ‘64.

The "Live in Japan 65" album is all Mosrite, though. The thing about them is that the pickups tend to have a lot of wire on them, so they can overdrive an amplifier pretty heavily for a 60s guitar.

If you're doing accurate Ramones covers, that's accurate. Mosrites were played by other people, though; The B-52s (pre-1985, Ricky's death) and also Joe Maphis come to mind.

did not the mosrite mfg business come to bakersfield calif in the 60s They closed shop and sold the whole business....it was then bought by a bakersfield business man by the name of Ken Cornelius who ended up having singer Gene Moles building them outta his garage south of bakersfield...the whole parts list of parts, bodies were then bundled soldto Billy Mize...I know Gene sold my Red sunburst left handed guitar to Billy mize also. havent heard much on the mosrites since that time. Always wished i wouldnt have sold that guitar . couldnt play a lick but loved to take it out and look at it was only 12 no sense is guess

I think they might just be Mosrite's version of a Humbucker, but with a differently colored pickup ring. The Humbuckers seemed to mostly be a 1970s thing, but I don't know the 1980s period very well.

1981 - Nov 23, 1983. The building burnt down from a paint booth fire from a blower motor. It took out all the records of guitars built up to that point, or so I heard.

While the Ramones did bring a lot of attention to Mosrite, it's not like Mosrite were never heard of anywhere else. They got started with country musicians - different ones far unlike the ones you might hear today. Those ones actually had a lot of technical talent. Joe Maphis, for one, still looks amazing now.
