Most Common Problem w/ RV AUTO STEPS - Solved My Kwikee Step Woes - RV Life

CHECK YOUR DOOR STEP WIRE FIRST AND FORMOST IF YOUR STEPS ARE ACTING UP.
Ours were stuck constantly trying to retract. switch polarity and they were stuck going out.
noticed- the door step wires were replaced with phone wire from previous owner.
door step wires became very brittle and snapped just touching it.
replaced and fixed.

If your steps are stuck make sure your RV is level. Our motor home didn’t look too out of level to me when our steps got stuck closed. My wife insisted we just needed to level the RV as the steps were likely bound up. Once again, she was right.

I tapped the motor with a hammer. Steps working again.

Better clean those brushes inside then. Should work wonderful afterwards

I would change the motor. Mine when out with the step up making it impossible to get to. Had to remove pin between the step and gear box which took 3 hours using 3 spring hooks to remove the cotter pin then punch out the pin. The motor is only $66 on Amazon.

Tap the moter with a rubber mallet. Gently? Tap tap. I may try that too. I have heard that can lossen it up. Hmm kinda like a starter on car.?

Mine are that same thing right now stuck on stupid. Lol in but not all the way. . Think I'll check the house battery's first. And the ground. I already cleaned and greased. It went out then when it came back in Not all the way. I wiggles the sire that is on inside of the door. That tells it to open and close. ✌️

I still have that same issue of them not fully retracting in. Even with full battery so I'm wondering if they skipped a gear or bent. But if I'm out side I can help it pull the stairs up and they stay

@@BEASTmodeontheRoad I went ahead and order the moter thing. I'm on my way into so cal lower deserts. Hoping to find someone to wrench it for me. Happy to pay um lol. My knee is still hurting. I'm in denile. I should see a doc but for what? I have a knee brace. I've been gimpin around for 3 wks. Denile!! It's long way to sit down to get out lol. Tomorrow is moving day. And again wends. . I'm sure I'll mess that knee up some more. 🙏 It stops.

@@BEASTmodeontheRoad yes I did,:) I bought a moter on Amazon, and found a guy mobile tech. It works again.. yeah. Thanks for checking in. I took a pic of what under there. No numbers on it so.. I matched it up. Mine was the one that had a female plug. ✌️ But

I have no idea what wires you are talking about. The wires to the motor? The wires from the battery? Mine is doing same thing----I'm trying to figure out what the problem is. The magentic switch is ok, I used a magnet to test it and hear it clicking---the light is on, so I know they are getting power- but stuck. I think i have the same issue you do. I will go see if I can figure out which wires are the problem. Thanks---great info---just work on the lighting on your videos! FYI my wires from the magentic switch were pinched under the little metal trim on the floor by door. I need to see if the conductor is damaged---the insulation is flat. I'm almost ready to just get manual stairs----these are great when they work but -----

it was late at night and trying to see a black motor was very difficult for the camera to catch.

@@BEASTmodeontheRoad Gotcha! Thanks for the response. I actually ended up just tapping it and fiddling with the wires and the steps started working again 😊 Now my husband thinks I'm a genius

You said 2 power wires. What color are they? I have an original wire that has no spot on the new control module.

Usually black and white or some cases red. But I'm not sure about the control module. Mine was also yellow and black at the off and on switch and my door switch were black and white. It is probably for a feature your RV doesnt have. Will have to get a wiring diagram.

Have a friend who says his won't work but when he puts not direct with a charger the motor works. So what's the next step now? Does it have fuses? Hope l can get an answer.

Then go down the line and check the order operation. Only so many things to cause motor to not run if power works. Would check fuses always, next would be grounds and making sure the battery is fully charged.

I heard that on some there is a fuse I'll have to look for that tomorrow also. i was watching "RV street"martin. long time ft rvn on u tube. Channel with may vidios. Another good channel. I always watch and 👍 "My RV works" great dude step by step he's a mobile tech in NW

yep I am thankful for everyone who puts out how to videos and does it well. cause after doing these by myself and forgetting to film it all or not being able to show it properly is tough and hats off to um!

Oil all the joints. The control box is detecting a load on the motor so it will switch it off because the joints need oiling
