I'll let you and others find the problems with the truck that generate recalls. I'm opting to buy a used 2023 and drive it for 2 to 3 years and then buy the new generation Tacoma after problem areas have been sorted out. Influencers praise the new Tacoma quite a bit, but I'd really like to hear from mechanics on this new truck after they've worked on them for a couple years. Moreover, the problem with hybrids is they're not suitable for DIY mechanics to perform basic maintenance. So, in addition to the out-the-door price paid for the truck, plan on paying much more in maintenance costs from Toyota service centers over the coming years. Total cost of ownership will be significantly higher. Influencers don't talk about this. Nevertheless, it's a nice truck.

Keep in mind the US’s emission and mileage requirements. For manufacturers that is a goal, and smaller turbo engines and electric assist motors are ways to meet these requirements. Sadly, that will also equate to more RPM’s, heat, wear and tear,and a shorter engine life.

My biggest issue with the tacoma is mileage and fuel capacity, I have a f150 4x4 with 2.7 and can average 20 mpg with a camper top, I have the extended range fuel tanks so can go 600 miles on a tank or 400 towing. I also have a 2022 tacoma 4x4 v6 ,I average about 17.5 all stock , when I fill up I can go about 300 miles is all ,and towing I have to pull in every 200 miles, so a bigger fuel tank would be nice for off roading towing ect. Another 10 gallons of fuel capacity would make the range a toyota can travel a lot nicer

I run the 2.7L Tacoma and usually get 22mpg when I drive. 19 when the lady drives it. I’ve towed an s-10 with it and got 25mpg. Try driving slower/more consistent. It’s hard to get a bigger fuel tank when you ain’t got room and cuts into weight capacity.
@donm3844
@donm3844 6 ай бұрын
@scrapmanindustries how do you get 22mpg when you drive and 25 mpg towing a S10 that's impossible . My tacoma and i have had 3 of them have all had the V6 3 litter motors and they have never done great when It comes to mileage but what's a insult is when my full size F150 with a camper top and v6 gets better mileage and has more drag and weight , You can buy a extended range tank for a tacoma thru the aftermarket and it fits where the stock tank goes ,but there is no reason the factory can add 10 more gallons capacity if the aftermarket has it and it's a bolt in where the original tank goes, Toyota can do much better .
@scrapmanindustries

@donm3844
@donm3844 6 ай бұрын
@scrapmanindustries I live in hilly country. So for me normal mileage is about 1-2 mpg less then if I am driving on flat ground like across Illinois or Iowa ,so when I tow my 12 foot trailer it usually knocks off 5-6 mpg in this hill country, Like I said the extended range tank for v6 owners would be wonderful, many of the guys I know that have a tacoma complain about the mileage at least in this area and would prefer a little extra range . I have a friend who had a bigger tank put in place of the stock tank that is a bolt in item, His tacoma can go around 540 miles on a tank and I am considering just getting one myself , I know if it was a option like ford and others have , I would definately spend the extra dollars for it .

Nice to get a review on the new Taco aside from a couple points. My two friends, one with a 2015 4runner with KDSS and other with a 2019 4Runners both, comment how much better the ride is in my 17 Pro Tacoma with leaf springs versus their coils. And the friend without KDSS has Icon 2.5 shocks. Second, although I'd prefer rear discs, I'd love to see an actual comparison, with numbers, to see stopping force difference with discs vs rear drums before stating how much better the rear discs are. Most brake force comes from the front anyway. If the front discs are bigger than the 3rd gen Tacoma than claim that but i think the rear drum issue is more of a modern brake preference rather than real world difference.

In the past, I changed my vehicles once every five years, but now, I keep them until the wheels fall off. If you take a good care of your Tacoma, it will outlast the 2024 one.

Liked video what about price? And how much will the turbo cost to replace at about 250k when it dies and how long will the engine last with the increased internal pressure it’s a safe bet it won’t last 525 thousand miles like a friends 22R engine that he drove to the junkyard cause the body rusted off the truck the engine wasn’t burning any oil so they pulled it and sold it

If the electronic steering fails, can you still control the vehicle? And if the electronic breaks fail, how will you break if the electronic motors fail?
@Bblindsey3572
@Bblindsey3572 3 ай бұрын
I did some research on this - yes, you still have a mechanical connection to the wheels. For the breaks, I THINK they are still hydraulic brakes and the “electric” component is just the parking brake actuator on the rear discs.

I have a Ranger 223FC Pontoon with 150HP Mercury and trailer. My brother in law thus far has helped in transporting when needed. However I am still looking at a truck myself. The boat/trailer I suppose would be 5K lbs and question whether this size vs full size would accomplish my hauling task. Would you be able to give me some advice on my main purpose? Thank you!

Will the transfer case allow for 4 wheel down towing behind an RV? Is there an internal oil pump that is driven by the transmission?
@visualdragon
@visualdragon 26 күн бұрын
I've been working my way through my owner's manual and just read the section on towing. They state that it should be towed with all wheels off the ground. It can be towed with all wheels down in 2WD for a maximum of 50 miles (80 KM) with the speed kept below 18 MPH (30 KPH). For automatic transmission models, you can only do this going forwards.

Same tightness on the 2024.....although they have a little more headroom. Never understood why Toyota couldn't build a Taco almost the same as a 4runner? Much more comfortable, plenty of room in rear seat area for both head & leg room, much more comfortable, smooth transmission.....disc brakes on all 4 wheels......and I think the frame & springs are better. They could have saved themselves manufacturing & parts money, & passed this on to the loyal devoted Toyota lovers.....

Why doesn't Toyota make 4x4 trucks with a transfer case that also have a differential (either open or limited-slip one)? It would allow driving in 4L and 4H modes on non-slippery surfaces, not only on mud and ice. What are other reasons in addition to cost saving?

Love the tech and features! The new turbo engines are very impressive! *HOWEVER,* having had experience with turbocharged engines before I know that the additional RPM’s, smaller engines pulling the same weight as a larger engine, so more stress, heat, and wear and tear. Sadly I have zero faith people will get say 200k-300k miles out of these engines. Note by the number of turbo six’s that have engine replacements by as little as 20k miles as my point. Granted, probably abused, but for me a Toyota is a long term car, and the smaller turbo charged engines make me nervous.

@@Erin-Thortuning had a lot to do with this as well, with the peak torque being significantly lower in the RPM band plus the 8AT depending on gear ratios these engines should be at a lower RPM for certain applications. I'll be interested to see how this pans out for towing tests in the real world. But in theory it should do better than the current gen and definitely do better than my poor 2nd gen for towing.
@Erin-Thor
@Erin-Thor 5 ай бұрын
@@CF_Sapper - Lower RPM’s mean a bit less wear and tear, but as you’re still forcing more air and fuel in to get more power, that’s still more heat and stress. I get it, they might pull less RPM’s pulling a heavy trailer going up a hill, but the engine is still working hard as hell. Hot oil breaks down faster, heat affects engines, rubber seals, etc.
@CF_Sapper
@CF_Sapper 5 ай бұрын
@@Erin-Thor Heat will only be an issue if the oil cooler and radiator is insufficient enough for the heat load. Toyota has been building turbo charged engines that last 200k miles or more for decades both diesel and gas. Now are they perfect? Absolutely not. The thing is though, if it's making a similar amount of "power" and it uses roughly the same amount of fuel it produces roughly the same amount of overall heat and with modern engines the energy loss to heat through their design and how they ignite the fuel and other things that there could be less overall heat. The flip side to that though, being less mass due to the smaller engine and potentially less oil which would speed up the break down of the oil, but with modern synthetics that is also mitigated. There's been a 4 banger for the Tacoma as long as it's been the Tacoma and its predecessor had one as well. This is already a proven engine as well. Time will tell in the real world but assuming they matched the cooling system appropriately to the work it's gonna be seeing it shouldn't be a downgrade in reliability. At most you might need to do an oil change more frequently. But if you're not changing your oil at the recommended frequency that's a user issue not a manufacturer one.

I have no problem with Turbo 4s, and love the exterior design for the Sports and Pro but paying that much for the interior plastic materials and fabric seating for $50k OTD and having to pay at least $60k OTD for premium package is a far reach from affordability. I would pay, at the most, $40k for the TRD Sport with premium and $35k for the TRD Sport.
