Picked up an RPR .338 LM earlier this year. Haven't even shot it yet. Right after I bought it I found out the only 1000 yd gun range in my area was closing down because a new residential development was coming. Been adding things to it piece by piece; Accu-tac HD50 bipod, Athlon Ares 4.5-30x56 scope, Nightforce Xtreme scope rings, etc. 338 ammo is pretty expensive, but I knew that going in. I've always wanted to learn reloading, now I've got some incentive.

You guys can rip me for this but I intentionally did not choose this rifle or others that looked "tactical". I bought a Ruger American Generation 2 Predator in .308. That Ruger works for my skill level plus it was cheaper and is "just a deer rifle" not a military grade sniper rifle.
@Sad_Cat_Epiphany3 ай бұрын
The podcast guys over at Vortex said that this rifle, because of how capable it is at its price-point, changed the shooting industry. It's a budget rifle that can and has competed with much more expensive guns in the precision industry. I own this one in 6.5 Cm. As a guy who built an SPR in 5.56 for longer-range shooting, the RPR was an easy acquisition. The RPR is amazingly accurate, which makes it very satisfying to shoot. My current optic is a Vortex Viper PST 5-25. My hunting experience with it is limited to coyotes as of now. I've taken down a few of them past 400 yards (in east-central Minnesota).

I have the RPR in .338 Lapua. It's very accurate and functions great. The only issue I have with this rifle is the weight. It's heavy on it's own without ammo or accessories. When you add optics, bipod, a loaded mag, etc. it gets almost .50 cal heavy.

I love my rpr, its fantastic how they accept pmags as well as aics mags. Its such a good companion rifle to someone who already owns a 308 ar. The ergonomics of the rifle being virtually identical to an ar is also a huge advantage. Generally to get into a chassis with fully inline recoil you would have to spend a whole bunch more, if not double. One of my buddies is not the best shot but he owns an ar15 so hes very familar with the ergos. He shot my rpr for a half minute group on his first attempt. The gun is great. I also got one in 22 but fundamentally It feels very different, it's still a decent tool for training but the chassis is not nearly as nice as the real deal one. The best feature of the 22 rpr is that you can adjust the length of bolt throw from 22 lr length to short action (308/6.5 creed). That is amazing. The only thing I would change on either of my RPRs is the trigger, I would only change it to a two stage because I prefer those. The 338 lapua magnum version is by far the best budget option to get into 338

The only rifle I like a little more is my Bergara B-14HMR in 300WM,in a KRG chassis,it's damn accurate as well. The bolt is a little more smooth on my Bergara but I poloshed the raceway & lapped the lugs on my RPR & it helped quite a bit. Eventually I will get the .308 AR-10 18" heavy barrel build lower completed and together, I'm also building a 6.5 Creedmore upper for that soon to be completed lower. I expect that would be the quickest to grab and capable enough for longer range precision that's still reasonably handy. For a fairly handy bolt action precision rifle I would take my Savage 110 Tactical .300 Win Mag which would definitely get the job done. I haven't even mounted the scope on it yet but I will soon and have it zeroed with 3 different rounds prior to the late season cow elk hunt (only tag I drew out😢.) However now that I have a Centurion MKXII SPR and my own built clone with the same profile barrel.
