We have cougars, gators, rattlesnakes (4 types) corral snakes, copperheads, cottonmouths, black and brown widows, brown recluse, multiple poisonous plants, armadillos, possums, raccoons, scorpions, coy wolves, coyotes, red wolves and bears have been spotted here also... I've lived all over Texas and have seen all of these in the wild except bears

Puss caterpillars are so weird, Fireants are annoying jackasses, velvet ants are dangerous, The red wasps are the biggest worry.

@@sirblue5586 An electrician in Dallas has the view that a red wasp sting hurts worse than a 460 volt electric shock. Another source describes it as "a flaming torch of agony." When I was a boy I took a red sting to the armpit as I was climbing a tree. I screamed for seven straight hours. I have had a red chase me out of my front yard as I was trying to mow the grass. I ran at it with the mower, it ignored the mower and flew directly towards me. EVIL intelligence.

Ok . Alligators are predators of opportunity and ANYTHING including humans are prey to these reptiles . All you have to do is get close enough ... And you're dead .

Leprosy in armadillos is only an issue if you eat them. And only then if they're undercooked. It's incredibly unlikely to contract leprosy by just coming in contact with one, even handling it.

Where you finding a basement in Texas? Usually the areas dry and remote enough for a population of scorpions are pretty much impossible (or too expensive) to dig a basement.

~ I am in SW TX and one of my neighbors saw a Mountain Lion in the burbs it is crazy...then again it was a pretty wild area just 20years ago!~

Mountain lions have ranges of over 500 miles in Texas because of how terribly we’ve manipulated the land & ecology. Also that cougar is probably dead now. Because if you saw it, other people saw it. Someone will go try and kill it, no matter what. Maybe don’t post about it, so that we can avoid extirpation. Which is, btw, what happened to the Black bears, Red Wolves, wolves, jaguar (yep - houston area {subtropical rainforest - piney woods - prairies} & south Texas both hosted these baddies). We almost killed off the alligators but luckily someone let them know if you lose all apex predators the ecosystem collapses. Most super toxic plants we have are invasive. Texas has a ton of toxic fungi tho

Regarding sharks I'd have appreciated it if you had pointed out more clearly that bull sharks are the only real threat here because they're generally aggressive, provoked or not. The other 4 are rather passive, shy and particularly black tips can be interacted with peacefully in a normal environment.

Ditto for rattlers…before I became too disabled I used to move them and other snakes off roads to prevent them from being run over…people have been known to do so on purpose. I stress that I was trained how to handle them by my father. Never pick up any snake unless trained…nit in,y can you suffer a nasty bite but they have fragile spines.

Its really funny because you cant actually avoid a lot of these in texas unless you stay in the city. A lot of our backyards is this lol. Rattle snakes,crocs, poisonus spiders under our canoes lol, literally everything on this list lol

Stay away from the lily pad black pond in back of the Texas- louisiana rest stop on the boarder.(10 beaumont) When me and my daughter walked off the biggest alligator send by staff came out of the water where we were standing.

I’m not sure man. I live in Florida and I hear more about snake bites in Texas than here. They have more species of rattlesnakes. They might not have as many gators, but those are pretty easy to avoid. People in Texas tend to their gardens and get hit by venomous snakes. But it definitely depends on where you go in either state
