As Christianity eventually flourished and spread throughout the Western world, things became complicated. As the faith’s popularity rose, so did the power vested in those who sat in the papal seat. Nowadays we view the Pope as one who guides by example, leading a simple, ethical, and moral life.
Yet, over the 2,000 years of the Vatican’s existence, not all Popes have been so highly praised as the current Pope Francis. Some have been greedy, vicious, and downright evil. Some have been murderers and rapists. With power often comes greed and corruption.

I'm christian, the video is painful to watch and is painful to know what they have done. However, i know that as a christian, i'll own up to the misdoings of the people of my faith. They have done wrong and i will not ignore what they have done. Forgive but never forget is where i stand with this but i can understand if you never forgive. All i can do...all we can do as christians now is to see and understand what we have done wrong in the past, own up to it and never shying away from it, and then correcting ourselves for the future so we can be a better people of faith than our brothers and sisters once were. Least that is how i see this video and why we shouldn't be offended by it.

Hello I just wanted to point out what I believe is an error the Pope and the Vatican are the heads of the catholic faith I believe not Christians although the religions are similar there are many differences in the way the two practice their faiths I am Christian and was not offended at all about what was said about the Pope's or the Vatican but a little offend for being mistaken for a catholic who I believe to practice their faith incorrectly even though the original churches made by the disciples became the catholic church please correct this or me if I'm wrong!

There are a LOT of docs on these guys already out there. Many of them on youtube. I've spend thousands of hours researching history, with a specific interest in religious history. When an athiest is evil, at least they are honest about why. They want power and they don't care about people. When a Believer does it, they accept zero blame and say it's all God's will. Religion has been the single most effective tool for harnessing (and giving cover for) the worst behavior humans can think up.

As A catholic I’m not offended, this is the unfortunate history of our church, to deny those things, or to be angry when others mention them would be to disgrace the people that were affected by it. The church isn’t about being perfect, that what I like about it. It’s not about the mistakes we make it’s about what we do to make up for the wrongs. Committed. That being said the Catholic Church definitely has a long way to go before it’s atoned for the sins of its past. and I acknowledge that. This post isn’t meant to justify Catholicism, but to speculate that we (meaning those of us in this world who are catholic) shouldn’t be offended when someone points out the faults in our church, but should instead reflect upon them and make sure those mistakes either cease to happen again, or stop happening now. Those who forget their past are doomed to repeat it.

My grandma was formerly a Catholic but become a Mormon, she told me that when she was younger like around school age, that she was unfortunately was a victim of r@pe. Which she was r@ped by a Catholic priest and that she was forced to carry the baby to full term and that she even had to give the a baby away because she was too young to care for the child. When she told me, I was like man, I could not imagine the amount of trauma that she went though. And that she even told me that she was so traumatized that she cannot and did not tell anyone because they could victim shame and blame her of what she did. But luckily that the priest that r@ped her was arrested and in prison serving a sentence. Which in fact R@pe is the least reported crime than any other crimes. The problem here, is that all this comes down to perspective. As The Unknown pointed out, this same philosophy can apply to making Religion proved fake. The issue, is that we have no solid proof on either side clearly stating if God is real or not. But then it becomes the same argument for truth and lies. We have no true definition for what is truth, and what is lie. While sometimes the truth is obviously the truth, sometimes the lines blur, and from person to person, honesty differentiates. But as to your point, this is solid fact. Nobody can deny that these people did that, but I believe the more offensive part they’re referring to is just addressing all of them as “Evil popes”. Most of us can agree that they most definitely were, but, hey, people can get offended over anything.

There were a lot of bad men in the Catholic Church during the Middle Ages. It's my understanding that Europe's nobility used the Church as a sort of dumping ground for sons who weren't going to be heirs. Since the Church had influence, those sons could then be of some use in their new positions. That, my friends, is what happens when you mix politics into religion.

Back in the Middle Ages, education was something exclusively used to raise young, rich men into positions of power in the church. Education was only given to the richest, was considered a status symbol, and since actual learning other than basic reading and writing was nonexistant in the Middle Ages, the only reason or cause to become educated was to join the faith. And if you joined the faith, suddenly you are better than everyone else because you represent god and that makes you better. Then you start showering in money because the church was probably the most corrupt institution in the history of the world. So its not that "useless sons" were dumped into the church, its just that everyone who was the son of a rich family joined the church and became richer, and thus more corrupt.
