Can we give a thumbs up for the camera work!! Its incredibly difficult to keep an object moving at that speed in the picture at all let alone centred(and at particularly once directly over head). The focus and physical acrobatics going on behind the camera to keep that lens pointed correctly is something to be recognised and applauded.

Fun facts about jet sounds: • the tearing/screeching sound is produced by turbulent 'flows' that form when the high velocity stream of fluid coming out of the jet nozzle collides with stationary air • each individual 'flow' emits its own sound, resulting in a broadband noise of many different amplitudes and frequencies that extend well beyond human hearing. • the highest frequency sounds tend to dominate because those 'flows' occur right next to the nozzle opening where the flow is strongest • the dominant frequency changes constantly and dramatically because it is proportional to the velocity of the outflow, inversely proportional to the diameter of the outflow, and changes with respect to your position due to the Doppler effect. Loudness is proportional to the 8th power of the outflow velocity.

@@7819thomas well no. F-22 is larger than many of your fourth and third generation designs, and is not incredibly smaller than other fighters like the Su-57. F-35 is smaller, sure, but it's less about size and more about shaping and coating. if size was a huge factor (I'm not saying it isn't a factor at all of course) then the F-5 must be a super jet. as I said, the F-22 is definitely still on the larger half of fighter aircraft.

@@kirkschoolfield4173because it's designed to be *radar* stealth. the F-22 reportedly has the radar cross section of a bumblebee, and is effectively invisible to most radar. you can hear it and you can see it, but your instruments have no idea it even exists. in the modern day and age, the vast majority of anti aircraft systems (including missiles on other aircraft) use a form of radar, and you can't hit something if the radar doesn't think it's there. and if you're looking for something, if your instruments don't tell you anything is there, then why should you look there? the stealth tech on these 'stealth planes' doesn't hide them from human senses, it hides them from our equipment.

It had a rope barrier around it and guards protecting it. I asked my dad what it was made of and he said “I can’t tell you son…”. I then asked him “how fast is it, Dad? He smiled and said “pretty fast”. I knew all the questions I was asking were classified and did it just ti see what he would say. My dad was so proud of that airplane and I still own the original desktop model given to him by Lockheed that sat on his desk. Many years ago, I was at Tempe Town Marketplace in Tempe, AZ when 2 Raptors were flying in to Sky Harbor for whatever reason. I had never seen or heard one before. It was an amazing experience. Everyone stopped & was looking up, everything was rattling & shaking. That sound is hard to describe if you’ve never experienced it. Also saw & heard Air Force one leaving Sky Harbor one time, that thing is crazy loud as well.

Haven't seen one of these fly since the 2009 Rhode Island Air National Guard Open House and Air Show but I will never forget it. @@Xrm150 … All the jets sound AWESOME to me though. Wish I could have worked on them when I was in the U.S. Army in the early 1980s. Of course, the Hueys and 58s were great helicopters to work on too, until my knees started acting up and I couldn’t climb in/out of the helicopters. Ended up taking oil samples to the place they test it at for impurities until I got out of the Army. Got to ride in the Post Commander’s Huey though. And I was probably one of the very few PFCs who got to go to the Officers’ Club with 6 officers. The pilots decided to take me to lunch. That whole trip, to Fort Knox, Kentucky, was a great experience that I’ll never forget.

+B.R. Buckeye Man True, but the F-22 is still in a class of it's own. Taking out all variables related to modern warfare, and putting both the F-22 and Su-37 up against each other 1v1 on perfectly equal grounds, the Su-37 has no chance. F-22 has better agility, better technology, and a much smaller RCS. If you want to start talking about air defense systems and radar detection technology you can argue one way or another, but on pure specs alone the F-22 is king.

+parteibonza ...Su37 is more agile. F22 has thrust vectoring only in the pitch axis, and to a more limited degree than the Su37 - which has full 360-degree thrust vectoring (as a missile does). Also, an aircraft is only as effective as its armament. The F22 carries the same basic weapons combination (M61, AIM9, AIM120) that U.S. supplied western nations have been utilizing for decades. That weapons combination may have had considerable success, but most of that success was achieved versus the comparatively antique MiG21 (an aircraft that carried absolutely NO modern countermeasures, let alone electronic warfare/jamming equipment). The Russians have abundantly proven that their newest EW systems are pretty damned good at scrambling our electronics. If we cannot see the Su37 through its EW interference, then the "stealth" advantage of the F22 is mute.
