Picked up my srixon zx5 mk2 driver 10.5 one inch shorter 3 days ago . Really surprised how much difference 1.5 and an inch shorter made to my drives no more slice gently fade but mostly straight. Another great video Andy cheers

Ping G400 Max had 10,000 MOI all those years ago, and in the hands of many average golfers would probably perform just as well as any new £500 model with a similar shaft length. Only my opinion!

Agreed! I used to own one and traded it in for the newest, shiniest driver about 3 years ago. Since then I’m on my 3rd “new” driver (a PXG 0811X) and I’m finally finding fairways again. But I still miss that Ping!

Of course and with the correct loft and shaft weight. Has anyone said otherwise ?

So true. I have a G400 Max for years already. I have tried several new drivers during the last years in numerous fitting sessions. So far nothing beats my “old” Ping. I have a slow swingspeed of 93mph.

mini burner helped me immensely, stopped trying driver after driver and gave up 20 yards for accuracy, now I hit fairways 9/10 and I'm a 22!

Just got fitted and bought an AI smoke Max D. My swing speed is high 80's mph, fitting specs - graphite vanquish shaft, club length 43.5. My age is early 60s, and my Hcp is 13. Just love it, I have more distance, and the ball flight is more consistent. Great video, Andy. As Andy says the key is to get fitted.

Recently was fit into a G430 Max 10K, went to a stiff and slightly heavier shaft and its unbelievable. Every Shot Scope Stat is up by 12 -14 yarrds and FIR up 11%. Not only that the missed fairways are minor misses, not the high slicey right hand in the trees misses I had from my Stealth 2. I did try the Qi10 but judt did not feel comfortable with the infinity crown, was not certain I was aligned correctly, maybe with a bright red face it woudl have been easier......

Dear Sir, Brilliant advice on driver length. Just had a mini driver built for me at 43.5 inches, 415cc and 13 Deg, to compliment my new driver at 43.5 inches, 460cc and 9Deg. I have a CHS of 110Mph and I have not lost even a metre on my old drives from my long drivers, yet the accuracy has improved by over 80% due to more consistent ball strike. Love your show. I had them built to my specs by a superb fitter and builder.

I found a big Bertha 460 10.5 degree at a garage sale 7 years ago for 20 dollars. I still game that driver today. It’s the most consistent driver I’ve ever owned. I won’t spend those ridiculous prices to gain 10 yards. I’m a weekend warrior and the Bertha will keep me playing

The first driver spec I look at is price. 😉 But thank goodness for closeout deals (if you don't mind being a year or two behind the times).

Just did a fitting and found out that the standard length of 10 years ago is a 1/2 inch shorter than today's standard. As a mid hcp player my swing speeds were better with the old standard and more accurate than with today's length. Glad i did a fitting with trying many different lengths, weight, and flex than just buying off the rack.

Good video Andy. No bias to any manufacturers. Just an honest opinion of what to do when looking for a new driver.

The best driver for a high handicapper is a mini driver. I’m off 21 now as a 71 year old and I replaced my Ping driver and 3 wood with a 13.5 drvr. I use the mini for tee shots and my Ping 5 wood off the fairway. It’s made a huge difference.

I bag an on sale, bought brand new and still available for $400, Ping G425. At 62 at a 9 handicap I love it. Still get 265 to 275 total yards and the dispersion numbers are fantastic. It’s the most forgiving driver I’ve ever owned. Great vid Andy, just wondering how you feel about the G425, and your honest opinion on why drivers are so expensive?
@schlatz27863 ай бұрын
I couldn’t agree more that driver shaft length is very important. I bought a longer shaft in search of more distance and hit shorter drives with worse dispersion. I’ve gone back to the shorter length.

(Unsurprisingly) this was a well thought out, well executed, highly informative video clearly touching on all the elements necessary to be considered in the hunt for one’s ideal driver. Straightforward and honest . . . hallmarks of your channel. Thanks!

I play off 7 ,don’t really pay attention to what club’s for each Hcp, just play what I like … currently gaming the AI Smoke Max D - it’s forgiving and long Had a LS cobra driver before and when I’m swinging it great it’s ridiculous but when not I’m hitting out of trees. Don’t worry about long off the tee if it means you’re looking at 3 yard gaps to punch through to advance the ball

MOI is the latest marketing buzz word. Will the average golfer actually see much difference between a driver with 10k MOI and a driver with 8K MOI. As Andy correctly identifies, getting the shaft right (weight, flex, balance point and length) with the right grip - maybe big grips, another trend, could be the way forward for you (or not) - will make a far bigger difference than whether the MOI is 10K+ or less. Custom fit is the way forward but only if the custom fit place is really good with lots of shaft options
@bobnish13 ай бұрын
I bet Cobra will get to the mini driver soon. I swung my friends Ping G400, but also I rent clubs at the course near by me once in a while who have the TM Qi... and their similarities are that the shaft same length, same flex and same loft. I hit them both real straight and long...sooo what does that say? Do you need the latest? Probs not, especially if you club is only 5 years old.

Shorter shafts? When i was fitted for new bats I was "given" shorter shafts anyway. So what's new about these mini drivers? It can't be shaft length really, can it?

I’m not sure what your asking Ken? What’s new? Who mentioned anything about ‘new’ , the conversation is about what is best to consider when buying a driver?? There is no reference to anything being ‘new’

You cater to what you call The Average Golfer...in this video you referenced a driver swing speed of 95-97 mph, I in no way consider that to be The Average Golfer!

Talks way too much without substance...get to the point!
@paulmarjoram22583 ай бұрын
Sorry but swing speed is influenced by shaft length, flex, and weight. It’s also influenced by head and swing weight, so saying a fit is based around your swing speed is incorrect. Swing speed is a result of the fit.
@TheAverageGolfer3 ай бұрын
Let me make the reply as simple as possible……you can try any weight, length, flex of shaft you want and you want have the same swing speed as Bryson…..you do the maths 👍
