Yes! Give Usain Bolt some torn, cheap shoes and he will still outrun you big time even if you're wearing the most fancy, expensive running gear on earth. RE studying & applying, I think it's best to learn just enough from 1-2 credible sources so that you can effectively exploit the 80/20 rule mentioned in prior vids, and not worry about the details while still "getting it". 80/20 is the way to find legit shortcuts (ie. not lazy shortcuts). Another clever video bro!

"..and whose damn hands the instrument is in!" lol Nailed it. And great video--very well reasoned and a great perspective I need to keep in mind.

Is it possible to open a mastering studio and get clients without analog gear? I am in this process and decided to put all the money in the acoustic treatment and high end Kii Three BXT monitoring system, but i'm afraid to have no client because the racks look empty. It would be interesting to make an episode on MOST IMPORTANT gear and practices to GET clients, like best marketing practices for example, once we are already able to deliver quality projects. Thank you.

I master completely digitally these days. So does Glenn Schick. Is it possible to get great results without expensive analog hardware? Absolutely. I’ve done both. Your question is a little bit different though: is it possible to market yourself effectively without it? That is a totally different question, and one worth asking-and trying to answer for yourself. I wish I could be of more help with it. I think you will have to be creative with how you market yourself if you believe that the expectation of your prospective clients is to have the analog hardware and you don’t have it. Hope that helps! -Justin

The first rung on the ladder is missing for most people, as are the 2nd through 5th. What you need is a hit record so that your "first" client is not feeling like you are a cut-price new guy. Internship with a functional studio or family connection is a way in. A degree from a ProTools school is not a rung, it is debt ballast. You can buy your way up the ladder, but it hurts to work for free without wealthy family or lottery win. Learn technique, get skills, be tireless and always available. Don't go into debt to buy gear. Buy premium microphones first and most, because they have resale value and are THE SOURCE of your acoustic-electrical signal. They also are compact and lightweight for value. The room makes. The Sound, but microphnes capture it. Get gloves, chimney up to the first rung available. Never quit.
