My picks for overrated actors: - Paul Rudd (he's exactly the same in every movie and just not interesting to watch, no variety, just playing the same goofball over and over again) - Bradley Cooper (at first I didn't mind him in movies, but at one point he got this idea that he's going to show everyone that he's "an artist" and now he just comes across as pretentious snob) - Emma Watson & Jenna Ortega (I really don't get why so many people are obsessed with them: they're exactly the same in every movie and so painfully bland) - Pete Davidson (I can't explain, but his presence just annoys me. It's one of those loud and obnoxious people you meet at the party and immediately want to go home) - Seth Rogen (his entire schtick is "I'm a bearded manchild that smokes pot, watches porn and curses a lot, because saying f*ck six million times in one minute is funny")

The problem with trying to rate "Overrated" is that many of them, like DeNiro is that they did good work early and fell into a dependable groove where they just repeat themselves. My nom is Leo DiCaprio. I know that if he has to do an emotional scene, he's going to do the same scrunchy face he's used for decades. I think this is largely an American problem too. The English grind their way through drama schools doing Shakespear and low-budget productions so they've got a wide variety of roles under their belts before they hit and seem better able to adjust their performances to the character, instead of adapting the character to their abilities. DeNiro just reads his lines anymore, where you watch someone like Tony Hopkins in "Westworld" and even though he's not doing much physically, he uses inflection, pauses, subtle changes in facial expressions and gestures to convey a character watching your every move. DiNiro should be ashamed he's coasting on his rep instead of challenging his skills.

I’m divided about DeNiro. Yes he was a tendency or playing himself and some of his characters seem exchangeable, specially in the 2000s he lost a lot of his drive. BUT when his was at his best he was unstoppable: Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Once Upon a Time in America, Frankenstein, Cape Fear, Goodfellas, Casino, Heat, The Deer Hunter, among many.

I'll concede that the later stretch of De Niro's career is disappointing but I'd say that's the case with most actors of his generation. His 'big four' with Scorsese. Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, King of Comedy all in under a decade is one of the all time great actor / director streaks. Add Godfather II and Deer Hunter in that same stretch alone puts him up there with the best to ever do it. All due respect, saying Noodles is similar to Travis Bickle is insane. Bickle is a dude who is delusional doesn't understand social norms; Noodles is a street guy who steps over whoever (especially in the films most horrifying scene) but still expresses a sense of disillusionment with the world he fits in and these aspects are communicated through the performance. The two don't maneuver scenes or interact with other characters the same way at all.

He was brilliant in Heat. The problem they're missing with De Niro is simply age imo, he made all his great stuff when he was young and threw in everything when nobody was really doing the starving themselves or gaining tons of weight etc, really immersed himself. they all boring, specifically Mirren who’s basically doing nothing on autopilot just changing from modern to period spaces going back & forth; Streep’s heyday has passed, nothing interesting to invent from herself anymore, but she has proud moments; I found Dench subtlest of them all, somehow from the regular prim cold ice queens and dames, she possesses that very zest which allows to divide her seemingly monotone roles one from another; Blanchett is the devil in the flesh, can’t really stomach her egregious manner - glad we’re having a break from her for the time being.

Streep is by far my favorite in this group one of my favorites overall. Blanchett is pretty similar in most of her roles and overall I think she works better in her smaller supporting roles like Cinderella or Don’t Look Up not dominating the whole film. Dench is rather subtle . There is a certain way she has that can be dependable in a role like Maggie Smith. Mirren is a hit and miss.

She seems like she would thrive in horror and art house films. I would really love to see her work with Ari ester or Toni Collette I feel like they could bring out something else in her. Shes so stuck in this sex symbol arc right now and it isn’t helping her. I have a prediction that she will undergo a physical transformation and really commit to a dark character in the vein of Charlize Theron in “Monster”. Sis needs a new team cause this ain’t it at all. I don't think De Niro is the undisputed GOAT like most do but I do find the idea he doesn't have any range to be baffling. I mean even in the 90s he showed a lot of range, in 93 alone with This Boy's Life and A Bronx Tale. Love your channel overall though.

I would say the most overrated actor of them all was John Wayne. Major star but wooden delivery. I think the modern equivalent would be Keanu Reeves.

Johnny depp thought what he did in pirates was pretty neat but he kinda just kept doing that for like a decade

i struggle with a lot of leo dicaprio performances, i love him in some stuff, but i find him tiresome in most things. i hated every second he was on screen in Dont Look Up (to be fair there were very few seconds i enjoyed in dont look up)

Don’t Look Up and Flowers of the Killer Moon were obviously chosen for political reasons and were awful decisions imo.

I love de Niro in his movies, I don't think he has bad performances. I enjoyed his comedies as well which makes me odd because a lot of people dislike his comedies. I love meet the fockers and dirty grandpa. He has done great roles even at his latter years like the intern and silver lining playbook. He definitely has range. His roles in the mafia movies were fun and his performances felt really good.

Denzel. Love the guy, but he plays the same character 90% of the time.

I would love to see you make some videos talking about how to fix certain train-wreck movies or series. How would you fix rewrite the disney star-wars trilogy? Just a suggestion.

Gwyneth Paltrow is a genius actor. I mean, she had Harvey Weinstein thinking she was actually attracted to him.

Yes, DeNiro's last twenty years have been loaded with throwaway performances but how about- This Boys LIfe, Godfather 2, The Deer Hunter, Mean Streets, King of Comedy, The Mission, etc. Wow! As for your take on DeNiro in Once Upon A Time In America- an amazing performance in maybe the best film of the 80's- Maggie you better lay off the drugs. You have been melting away right before my eyes.

I’m always uncomfortable with the term overrated. I mean it’s one thing to criticize individual performances, but to dismiss an actors entire work, feels a little bit beyond criticism and more personal.

To me this "rating game" reminds me of people saying the Stones are better than the Beatles. It's apples and oranges. Just the fact that these people are at the top of their field says a lot. Everyone mentioned is at least GOOD.

Hugh Grant definitely. Whether floppy-haired romantic lead or creepy villain, he overdoes the puppy dog look to his co-stars, like “look how irresistible I am”. He’s always been resistible to me.

I have one... Jason Statham. Always 'plays' exactly the same character in every single film he's in. I don't know why they bother giving them different names, may as well just called them Jason Statham Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 etc.

Paltrow was memorable in Flesh and Bone (1993) just as McGregor was in Shallow Grave (1994) While both went on to stardom, for me nothing they’ve done since (no matter how good the film was) quite compares to their breakout roles.
