The Seamaster 300M is, in no way, overrated. To even suggest that is ridiculous. I mean if you don't like how it looks, or some design features aren't to your liking, fine; however, that's not the same as being overrated. The Seamaster 300M is as good, if not better, than the Rolex Submariner when comparing specs down the line, yet the Submariner costs twice as much at MSRP (and good luck getting one at an AD) and the Submariner also trades at roughly three times as much on the grey market. If the Seamaster 300M was overrated one couldn't easily buy it and it would be way more expensive both at MSRP and at grey market prices.

It's great to hear your take on these watches Teddy. The Omega Seamaster 300M is a watch that I do not think is overrated at all. The co-axial movement, ceramic dial and a brilliant bracelet. This watch needs to be seen in the flesh and photographs and some videos do not do it justice. I wasn't a fan of the wavy dial until I saw one at the AD and walked out with it. The He valve is I think more heritage rather than function and I don't mind it at all. Very few will use it for it's purpose but it's there anyway.

Most overrated watches right now... 1) Anything made by Rolex, especially steel professional models (prices are ridiculous for what the actual watch is and does). 2) AP Royal Oak (just because your favourite rapper/actor/sports star/KZbinr wears one doesn't mean it's worth the hype). 3) Patek Nautilus and Aquanaut models (they're nice watches, but Patek's legacy wasn't built on simple steel watches. Let the Tiffany hype train go - for the asking prices of these, go buy one of Patek's complications instead and thank me later). 4) Gerald Charles watches (Gerald Genta had nothing to do with the watch. It's way overpriced. Let the man rest in peace). 5) Richard Mille (anything that ugly and toylike looking shouldn't be THAT expensive). 6) Omega Speedmaster Professional (Omega sent A watch to the moon. They didn't send YOUR watch to the moon). 7) Anything made by Rolex especially steel professional models (they're so over-hyped that it's worth including them twice).

Sounds like you hate your hobby 😂 Agree mostly, although I disagree with the "all" Rolex part. The price associated with Rolex is ridiculous, but if you remove price from the equation, Rolex objectively make some of the best stainless steel sports watches in the world. And the Speedmaster is an amazing watch, but I agree with how aggressively the moon story is pushed
@neilmartin77762 жыл бұрын
@@m.e.p.r I love the hobby which is why I'm so aggressive with people just using watches to make a fast buck instead of appreciating the craftsmanship and history 😅 Regards Rolex, I agree - they make some of the best SS sports watches on the market - period. (Although I'll also argue that Omega have been catching up noticeably in the past 5 years and may even match them now in some cases.) However, the prices Rolex are going for is above and beyond the quality. They'll always be expensive and desirable because of that quality, but the movements, simplicity and lack of aesthetic refinement do not justify the hype money that's now being asked. (Btw, when I say 'lack of aesthetic refinement ', I mean simple - if very well done - finishing on the cases and dials, and the extreme simplicity of the overall design.)

@@neilmartin7776 I think there is also a case to say that the current RRP associated with Rolex is undervalued. Only thing Sinn need to do is update to a better clasp (get rid of that diver’s extension too!) as that H-link bracelet is great. The intangible that makes one watch worth so much more than another. Specs are way less important. Great video! Have you analyzed Doxa as being overrated yet? I just bought the classic Orange 300T directly from Doxa and seeing the same watch used for $200 to $1000 more on EBay as there are very few places to buy them. Thoughts?

I own a Kurono Tokyo Anniversary with the coral dial very pretty watch but purchased at retail and agree with the point on being overvalued Also Teddy you were right on with their distribution method. They recently introduced a new Chronograph on Feb 24th I participated in process and actual had one secured in my check out cart. By the time I went to add my credit card number (matter of seconds) my cart was empty and a notice posted that watch was sold out. Extremely frustrating and a real turn off Will not be pursuing this brand anymore in the future Looking for a dress chrono and will focus on Zenith and Omega

The Omega SMP 300 is a great design, EXCEPT the lack of lume. The skeleton hands limit the lume to the end of the hands (the small strips disappear after an hour), making it impossible to see and distinguish at night vis a vis the hour markings lume. The SMP 300 with solid fully lumed hands would be awesome.

I think the Seamaster 300 Pro is under appreciated. It’s a fantastic movement and absolutely bomb proof. A super comfortable tool watch, I love mine purchased for less than $3000. I think it’s a bargain even for a few K more.
@ToastyTarmac2 жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more. Especially when you consider that it is every bit as good as a Rolex Sub, but you can buy 2 or 3 Seamasters and change for the price of one sub on the secondary market.
@maustin51132 жыл бұрын
@@ToastyTarmac yes indeed... I found the earlier wavy lines dial a little hard to read, the most recent "waves" pattern seems to be a bit better, I opted for the blue on blue.

A bargain at a few grand plus for a plain, steel dive watch? There are Orient and Seiko equivalents for less than $300... That's a bargain.

1. Agree with RM, pure hype. 2. Agree with Tiffany dials, pure hype. 3. Disagree with Omega, but I don’t like the helium valve. 4. Disagree with Tudor, beautiful watches. 5. Disagree with Casio Oak, amazing value and fun design. 6. Agree with Sinn, great call on this one, overpriced is the biggest issue.

I will admit my 124300-0006 isn't the most complicated watch in my collection but dear god does it look fucking fabulous and feel great on the wrist, its not the 124300s fault that the Patek Tiffany sold for an astronomical price... Step up your watch game and get your Rolex watches from your AD and you will start loving them, I honestly think that the majority of the hate Rolex gets is simply bitter jealous people who can't afford grey market prices and can't get them from AD's......

The Seamaster 300M is more polarizing than overrated. The helium escape valve isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, I get that. But I personally like it because it differentiates the watch from every other dive watch.

Definitely disagree with the SMP being overrated although I definitely wouldn't mind Omega making a few changes. I dig the skeleton hands but no date option, clean dial, and a bit of taper on the bracelet would make it a favorite for me. But hey from what I understand those watches are selling like hotcakes so they know what they're doing

I'm undecided between a stainless steel diver and a titanium diver...the deciding factor for me is the resistance to scratches and accidental bumps. I'm well aware of the titanium qualities but I'm still on the fence. Both watches are Citizen eco drive.

I would say the seamaster 300m is not overrated what so ever. I admit the helium escape valve is annoying but the quality and the movement for 5k is a great deal. Omega can charge more if they wanted too.

I think part of the appeal of the Tiffany blue dial is that it’s such a loud color. Remember the whole, “Don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes” thing? A Tiffany blue-colored dial can be recognized way farther than that. This helps the watch get recognized in photos where they’re worn by celebrities or other famous people. So, ways to more overtly display wealth/status: larger case size, diamonds (in some time periods in some groups), gold (at least in the 80s), and how loud the dial color is. I’m willing to bet that if the Rolex “Hulk” were more of a darker, subdued green, it wouldn’t be as popular as it is and has been.

The Damasko DS30 is always used to put down the 556i because the DS30 has marginally better specs and supposedly costs $1k (on a strap) vs $1.5k for the 556i (on a bracelet). That price gap no longer exists. The DS30 is discontinued, but you can get the new DK30 for 1.4k, but only on a strap. Want a bracelet? That’s another $600. Yeah, it’s ice hardened with an in-house movement. Amazing value, but so what? It’s a tool watch with a bead blasted case and a funky crosshair design. Not nearly as versatile as the 556i, which is plenty rugged and has 200m WR. Personally, I’ll take the versatility of the 556i over the less attractive DK30 and it’s unnecessary specs.

Love the two parts of most overrated watches right now. How about doing the most underrated watches right now? It would certainly be a great contrast to these. Love to hear your thoughts as I am in the market to get a luxury watch as a gift and looking at a chronograph chronometer which is not easy for something about $10k or so.

Great video, Teddy. I couldn't agree more with you on all of these watches. I would just like to add one thing about CasiOak. It is incredibly light! One thing that's been largely UNDERRATED is the weight of the watch. Especially if you are looking for an everyday beater watch, you're gonna want it to be more appropriate in terms of size AND WEIGHT. Also, I would like to see in your videos more mentioning of the weight of the watches, if it's possible. Thank you, I'm looking forward for more of your content.

interesting, the Benrus site says, Movement: ETA Swiss automatic movement w/ hacking seconds feature. so OK, maybe they did use Seiko at one time? sort of fits point made in your video, a $1700 watch with Seiko movement, perhaps not go over well.

The thing with the NH35 is not the movement; it's the price of the watches that have it. I like the NH35 and think it makes perfect sense for watches below the $200 mark. But put it in a watch going for more and there better be a lot of other features justifying the price 'cause the movement ain't it.

Seamaster is absolutely not overrated imo. The hands and bracelet are instantly recognizable. The coaxial movement offers something more, than say, a submariner. Speedmaster is the real overrated omega watch. No hacking and no automatic for 5 grand? Would still like to try a speedy reduced 3539 someday though.
