I think one of the biggest issues plaguing poverty in America is this dogmatic belief that jobs are an end to poverty. Millions of Americans work more then one job and/or over 40 hours a week and are still not able to get by. I don't know anyone who doesn't have a job but I know plenty of people who are struggling to get by.

The real issue is the entitlement in thinking that just because one has a job one no longer needs to sharpen the saw and acquire more skills. One can work their way up the ladder but nothing is given to you, you must invest in yourself and grow.

Back in the day I worked at restaurant. We served prime rib,all kinds of steaks. It was a buffet. The manager said whatever is left over on the buffet we could take home. So the manager left,we cooked up extra food and at closing time we split up the “extras”! We were making $3.25 and hour and eating prime rib at home

You cannot legislate people and their ability or inability to have the motivation to find a job. I work in Dayton and their are tons of jobs available for those that want to work and the pay is far above minimum wage. Government welfare sucks the life out of people.....That is the real calamity.

@@CREOLEHEAT I work in Dayton and we always have openings. No college education needed with full benefits after 90 days. Starting pay is around 14 per hour and more if you come with prior experience. Your defeatist attitude that relies on assumptions instead of actual facts doesn`t help either. Hardest problem we face is getting people to show up on time and passing a drug test. Basic stuff!

@@UrielX1212 14/hour with a max of 38-39 hours a week since you didn't mention overtime. That's about $560 weekly or $1120 biweekly. You really shocked that people don't wanna work there? You think about 27k is worth what y'all are asking of these people? People who have children, debt, bills?! Come on now. That's not shit compared to what the cost of living is. I don't care where you live. 27k/yearly isn't a damn thing. That's not being a defeatist. That's being a damn realist. Starting pay should be $20/hour. WITH benefits after 30 days. Not, 90.

A ton of corn costs 160 dollars, a ton, it would take you a year to eat a ton of corn, same with rice, beans, wheat and almost every other basic food source, the problem is that we like processed food that is sold to us with a markup of 5x its cost or more, a bottle of coke costs 10cents to make. Same deal with housing, we are renting overpriced houses because investors like their bubbles, and lets not mention healthcare, where seeing a doctor will cost you your entire weeks check just to walk in. The problem is this savage capitalism that we live in, 10 dollars an hour is 3x what a normal worker will earn in China or Mexico, but their food isn't overpriced, their housing is affordable and their healthcare is free, this is the real disadvantage of America, letting it's businesses lobby their way into a monopoly, bribing senators, and we can't change shit because that's the system that THEY built up to stay in power.

China. Their food is cheap but quality is absolutely atrocious. Housing isn`t a right and you don`t own anything in China as everything is rented from the government. Housing quality is piss poor too. Get a grip! Capitalism isn`t perfect but it beats the alternatives by a country mile.

The same goes for free food...the demand will never be satisfied.
