I recently heard a nutritionist saying that fat in the diet contributed more to vit D levels than sunlight. Also there is a problem that geoengineering is going on for years - and blocking the sun is going to have an impact at some stage. In addition, gut dysbiosis will have an effect - and most people will have had vaccines and antibiotics which have long lasting effects. Checked my levels - and yes deficient. And I am outside a lot walking the dog, gardening

I’m pretty sure Statins (which are given out like sweets, once you get to mid-50s these days to reduce cholesterol/fat) will have an impact in the bodies ability to make D3.

None of living in western societies get enough consistent sun shine on bare skin. We also tend to wash off the vitamin D forming on the skin before it can be absorbed.

Yes but youre not walking half naked outside i guess, like our ancestors did thousands of years ago?

That’s only true if there is enough vitamin D available in the first place, based on the fact that vitamin D is kind of “locked up” by fat, as it is fat prevalent.

The increasing amount of lactose intolerance sure doesn't help with the lack of Vitamin D, and also depends on how much sunshine get, depending on where living.

I live in NY, and in most winters, there is little sunshine. So I take D3 every day. I'm told this is the most potent form of D available. Because of taking D3, I never got C19. My immunity is sufficient. 😊👍🏻👍🏻

No chance of getting enough sun here in Northern England. This year we have had periods of 10 to 14 days with solid overcast with the odd half day with broken cloud between.

I understand what you’re saying and I’m a firm proponent of vitamin D supplementation but when you speak on subjects like this, I know it’s a short but please include all ethnicities. Thank you.

I wonder why this is happening since 3 years my whole family has been taking vit d supplements even though we have sufficient sunlight in India

There could be many causes related to lifestyle, genetics and diet, but the most likely cause is skin tone. People with darker skin require more sunlight to produce enough vitamin D.

Nutrient deficiency also might be the cause. Lack of other essential nutrients like Vitamin A, Vitamin K2, and magnesium can hinder Vitamin D absorption.

I burn under a 60 watt bulb so getting more sunlight just isnt an option. What's the best form of supplements? Foods?
@kodowdus19 күн бұрын
The fact that the prehormone "vitamin D" is not a significant component of most traditional human diets combined with the fact that it is normally synthesized in the human skin in the presence of adequate sunlight exposure suggests that it is not a "nutrient" at all. In fact, as a public health nutritionist, I would submit that it would be more appropriate to consider using "vitamin D supplements" as a form of hormone replacement to the extent that lab tests indicate low levels of serum calcidiol (the intermediate form of "vitamin D" that is stored in the liver and converted by the kidney into the active hormone calcitriol upon demand).

@kodowdus so what do you suggest? I have health issues and am seriously looking for answers. I believe you hypothesis has real merit. But all the supplements I've tried have no lasting effects.

Sunlight onto the whites of your eyes will give you the Vitamin D you are looking for. Don't look at the sun, but with your eyeballs towards the sun, look to the left and to the right. Avoid sunglasses if in direct sunlight. Sunglasses are fine if you are in a car, As the glass blocks the UV
@kodowdus19 күн бұрын
@grannysweet I take 5,000 IU of so-called "vitamin D3" per day, and my serum calcidiol was at a pretty good level (somewhere around 65 ng/ml) the last time I had it tested. (I also try to get at least a little morning sun, if only for the near-infrared exposure, but there are probably lamps for that as well.)

@@grannysweet Watch Dr Ekberg re vit D3.....he's brilliant at explaining it re amounts required etc. take a good pure supplement with no fillers or binders etc. I take one by Terra Nova here in the IK but also a good fish oil which has some in......good luck.

Im still vit d def and being allergic to cow milk , so I coconut milk some little dairy but not much , I love the sunshine though too, I try to get alot of sun , however taking vitamin d does help some over time the question is how long to get levels up
@johnkeepin75276 күн бұрын
Dairy milk is not normally much use for vitamin D in the UK, but in some parts of the world they do add vitamin D supplements to the milk; “fortification” is a term used sometimes.

Not trying to be a whinge but the clip starting with a shot of an empty room isn't great for your reach or engagement. If you haven't got time to edit the shorts I think that hiring an editor would be money well spent. This kind of thing can be done remotely for pretty low cost. Similar to longform videos there's things you can do that significantly promote or hinder the amount of attention you work gets. I assume that you want as many people to see this as possible and you're not going to attract attention with thumbnails like these or with several second shots of nothing. On screen captions increase engagement a lot, and allow you to put some attention grabbing frame at the beginning of the clip for the thumbnail. If you use them please write them out instead of using the AI tool as that makes videos hard for deaf people to understand.
