I've been playing a metal Otto Link 8* for a while (20+ years), and recently got the SYOS Chad LB model. I really like the way it plays; I feel like I don't need to work as hard to get the sound I want which is a full, bright sound. I hope to get as a nice sound as you get on it! Thank you for sharing!
@Osnosis5 жыл бұрын
That’s exactly the SYOS advantage; the sound just comes out easier.
@Ryan-ok8lk5 жыл бұрын
Considering the Ryan devlin in the future. Looking for a versatile, bright, projective sound. It might just be me but the Chad LB model seems to have a high pitched ringing quality, almost like the brightness is coming from one specific frequency region. Ryan devlins is brighter overall but consistently bright. Not sure if this is just my imagination. Both sounded really good though and thank you so much for doing a high quality comparison!

A superb comparison for sure. Both are GREAT mouthpieces. I settled on the Chad LB model which seemed more versatile to me. Plus, I already own a bright hi-baffled mouthpiece (a modified Otto Link Tone Master 7*). Thank you for posting.

Great comparison. I do have a Chad LB model that I like a lot. But I have to admit that I am surprised how well the Ryan Devlin model sounds and compares to the LB. It is a tad brighter and seems to articulate and project better. Although the differences are small. I am still not sure which one I do prefer. I think it would be great if you can post a comparison test between some less bright sounding mouthpieces like the Tivon Pennicott and the James Arben.

@GetYourSaxTogether4 жыл бұрын
lol I love the way as soon as you hit the Trane moment, with both mouthpieces, your tone changes right into his sound. It’s insane playing Trane transcriptions innit? You just totally feel him with every note and you can’t help but sound Trane- like. Interesting comparison, thanks for the vid. For me, what videos like this illustrate is that your sound is your sound and the mouthpiece just adds a bit of this or a bit of that. This is especially noticeable on that vid you did with all the syos pieces, then the selmer and Florida OL etc. People love mouthpiece review vids, as do I, but the danger is thinking it’s the holy grail of getting a great sound I guess. I know I’m already preaching to the choir though! Incidentally, YOUR sound is fantastic whatever mouthpiece you play. Awesome content man, really beautifully shot, recorded and edited. Class. 👍🏻

The second mouthpiece seemed a little more open in tone. Very close to the first one. Just a tad more expression on no 2.. both giving a great clear sound .. thanks. Very helpful.. A quick question. Was the one with the lowered baffle any easier to play ? Ive never really gone more than 7star on a metal link. If the baffle is lower it makes it a bit easier on the amount of air youve got to get through the horn? ATA least that’s what Ive always found.

Hi- great playing, and really good to hear an extended test of these 2 mp’s. Can I ask a question,thinking of getting a SYOS mp but the build quality always looks a bit below par eg grainy non smooth surfaces- is that an issue or am I seeing it wrong. Also, how does their ligature compare in practice. Regards from France, Phil

That's just the material texture. On the last video I had it smoothed out, but it was only marginally different. All of these here have that and don't seem to have any issue because of it!

@Sax Spy I'm considering the Chad LB but not sure which tip opening to choose. Is the 8* the optimal tip opening (used by Chad) for this model or is it just a matter of preference? Would a smaller tip opening be easier to play, more efficient, less wind? Thanks for all you do!!!
@SaxSpy3 жыл бұрын
I think the 8* is optimal for the mouthpiece design, but it's made for Chad's play style which requires a ton of air. A Lot of air. If you need a piece for less wind and efficiency, find one with a round medium chamber, flat (preferably hand-faced) and a rollover baffle. the get a sax slant 7* would be a great fit for $199 similar price
@fun11113 жыл бұрын
@@SaxSpy I’m surprised because Chad always looks like he’s playing so effortlessly and people talk about how easy this is to play. Are you suggesting Theo Wanne slant signature 7*.? It is $295

It can be played with less air but to get its full potential takes air. He has a great video on it somewhere. the GetASax GS Slant 7* mouthpiece. The Theo is also an option, though I have less experience with it. I played it for a bit on a trip to NYC.
